1. I have nothing to add to this thread apart from the fact I once saw a very cool video of a bc member (sorry can't remember who) and a singist covering a Coldplay song. Trouble I think it was. All he used was a loopy thing and a Stingray and all the singist used was his gob and a microphone. Very cool indeed.
2. I know exactly how you feel. I have a thing for natural Yamaha's, but the Bb1024 doesn't come with that option so I have a white one as my keeper. I'd have it refinished in a heartbeat if I knew the wood underneath was worth it.
3.
Oh, I didn't notice you said PJ - G&L SB-2.
Good call. Think there's on for sale here.
4.
Yamaha BB1024(x)? Vintage passive tones by the bucketload, looks lovely and cracking build quality. Second hand costs maybe £500-600. Truckstop
What Truckstop said. Got mine for 350 trouser flapping bargain.
5. Very nice, I quite fancy the jazz version myself.
6. The hobo's round here are always looking for firewood! (only joking). Gumtree is a good call and also have a word with your local music shops.
7. I embarked on a similar mission just after Christmas. My goal was to simplify, find the one I like the most & get rid of the rest. I have settled on my Bb 1024. I have sold two, given one away and now all I have a Bb and a Stingray. The Stingray is going when the market improves. Gas free & happy for a change.
8. Can't remember who it was now but not too long back a member had an add in the wanted's for a set of these. Might be worth a quick search.
9.
Me at Belladrum festival: Picture courtesy Derek Mair
Great to see this bass being played. (if its the one I think it is) From the scrap heap to the stage.....awesome.
10.
Worth a shot. The disappearing line in annoyed me when the mp3 based trainers were introduced. I still have my original CD-BT 1 Mk2 and use it just because of this.
It does kinda let down what is otherwise a useful tool. Anyway off down maplins now so we'll see if it works.
11. I've been using a GB10 Bass Trainer for practicing at work lately and while I'm impressed with it I think the lack of a line in lets it down. So, what I was thinking of doing is getting a double 1/4' adapter and a 1/4' to 3.5mm and stacking them in order to run my Bass and my phone (Spotify) through the same channel. Anyone know if this would work or should I just get myself down Maplins and give it a go. Cheer's Steve
12. Drum loops and scales have been invaluable to my playing in terms of finding personality. I remember when I first started if the piece I was learning got too difficult I would just play around in the scales rather than get frustrated and give up.
13. Great basses and I'm sure they'll be sought after but not for stingray money. Wasn't there a white one on here recently for about three fifty!
14.
That is good to know. I have just ordered a 504 unseen from Germany. Should arrive sometime next week. I do like Yamahas in general.
Cool. Do let us know what you think one you've had a play. It's just the body shape I didn't like, probably because I've been playing Bb's for years.
15. I had a Jazz that was Finished in Nito and it lived on a stand by the french doors in my lounge for quite a while. It sat there basking in the sun all day while I was working and stuff and although it wasn't bashed when I got rid of it it had started to get that tint to the body.
16. Been to PMT in Birmingham and they have a few of these TRBX's in. I have to say they ain't my bag but the build quality is up to Yamaha's usual high standard. I found it very difficult to walk out of there without the beautiful Natural Bb2024 under my arm.
17. I paid three fifty for my used 1024 with hard case last Christmas. Look around for a bargain, bobbyk has a 424 for sale here at a very good price.
18.
You MIGHT grab a used Musicman SUB for that kinda money, can't be beat for what he wants.
This. But make sure he looks for the proper one (US&A) not the Sterling one.
19. The Damien Hirst Butterfly Jazz has to be worth a bit too.
20. I've always been put off by the current G&L headstock, just too damn pointy. These are nice looking basses though.
21. The real bargains are in the used market. I bought my Bb1024 in mint condition with a hardcase for less than the sunburst one in the op.
