1.
I have just seen that and thumperbob wants it already! I am going to try the J Tone I have fitted for now so I think I will be after a Fishman preamp more than the pickup for now Anyone selling a used Fishman?
Try one of those Art Tube MP preamps. There's no eq on it but it does have a phase button...and they go cheap 2nd hand.
2. Yep, spent 7 or 8 years at sea...had a great time . I played in the production band, a jazz trio, small combo etc... If you have no ties and want to see the world, go for it. Not sure how it stacks up to when I did it in the 90's but as long as you're making decent money, it's a great way to hone your skills. I used to practice 4-6 hours most days, then play 3 hours at night for the gig. You meet all sorts of folk out there and you get to travel to all corners. Just make sure you don't get sea sick, that can ruin it
3.
Yes, but it's a long wait as it's non-urgent. Steve
I got pissed off waiting for nhs and just went private, well worth the ££
4.
position the bridge so the Back edge of the G foot is halfway over the soundpost, thats a better guide than the notches
Not so sure about this. My sound post is miles from my bridge but on purpose for a certain sound. I believe the notches are there for just this purpose, to position the bridge.
5. Can they not break up the scar tissue with physio and laser/ultrasound?
6.
It has arrived but I will need to cut some wood away!
Just file it nice and slowly. Take your time. If the slot ends up too big, you can usually shim the pickup with card, saxophone reed, wood laminate etc... Try to keep the edge as flat as possible so the pickup sits squarely in the slot.
7.
I cant believe this bass has come up for sale again!
+1 This is one of my favorite ACG basses. Wish I had some extra ££
8. Looks great. That bass should serve you well. You might want to turn that radiator off though if you're keeping the bass in that corner
9.
Couple of unknowns .....Charlie Haden and Pat Metheney !
+1 They did some great stuff!
10. If only it was a 5 string...
11. Looks great, nice bass. Nice to know of another luthier in the area too. Enjoy
12.
Please please remove this listing, I'm weakening every day.
+1 Plus the colour is great

Yamaha BB1025

Just wish they'd use V V T instead of that pickup switch
14. That's a deal and a half!
15. I've use the Art Tube MP for DB and slab. It buffers the piezos nicely. I also use, of all things, an MXR80. It is remarkably transparent with decent eq. The DHA DI EQ is another versatile preamp.
16.
I've only had about an hour to adjust today - been a bit of a busy one. Doesn't seem to be too much of a change with my right hand to be honest, feels pretty natural. Might be different for you though - I did tend to pizz higher up on the board (part of my motivation for changing action, although there were also serious LH considerations....), so my RH is probably doing pretty much the same thing as before but at the end of the fingerboard now. It provides less opportunity to dig in a bit perhaps, but I quite like it. Not sure about the volume question really, hard to tell without a side by side. Doesn't seem to have had a much of an effect on volume, but that could just be this setup allows my bass to speak more (e.g. pizzing lower on the board, which helps my sound project a little better), or accommodates my technique better. If anything, she sounds a bit richer to my ears. I wouldn't necessarily say that lower action = less volume, but it does seem to be a good heuristic. Regardless, if there is a slight dip in volume, it's not immediately noticeable, so as far as I'm concerned probably doesn't outweigh the physical benefits of lowering string height. Basically, I dunno. Sorry, I'm not very helpful! Will let you know after the next gig once I've had a bit time to be more analytical.......
Actually, you've been very helpful Thanks for the info.
17.
Just got my bass back, a real dream to play.
Good stuff. Do you find that you are digging in too much now that the action is lower? Also, what effect did lowering the action have on the volume? I'm asking as I'm going to do the same this month.
18. Honeys sounded the best on my bass with the current setup, Velvet Animas second. Evah weichs and Spiros choked the thing. Bare in mind it aint the greatest bass but it seems to like lower tension strings with higher action. This month I'm taking it to a new luthier (hopefully) to have a complete setup change. The action is getting dropped significantly and I just need to decide steel or synthetic strings. I might try Kolstein strings this time. If they don't work, I'll try the Spiros again with much lower action.
19.
I really don't know what to go for ...
Are you close enough to try it out? It's best to try it to see it it "fits" you. I tried about 7 basses when I was looking, some expensive, and the one I settled on was one that was the most comfortable in my left hand. It turned out to be cheap too Generally speaking, there are several differently shaped neck profiles... D, C, V etc... I focused more on getting the right fit and left it to the luthier to make it sound good.
20. Good stuff
21. Where are you located? You can try my BSX Allegro 5 if you like.
22. Due to forum rules, he needs to state a price
23.
You aware that this is a (brilliant) joke video? One for the jazz geeks (that's me)
Ha! I only listened to the intro and dropped out when Miles started. Someone has done some not so creative overdubbing
24. Paul makes it look so easy....very smooth
25. Open D, A on the D then cross over for the rest on the G string, or play the D on the A string. That might be easier as it modulates to Eb, you just slide the whole pattern up a half step.
