Hi Chris, I have a used one that I'll sell. I never got on with it on DB. Like all things DB, my bass sounds better with the Full Circle and an MXR80 of all things I bought it used and the XLR jack is a little loose but works fine. The rest of the unit works fine too. If you pm me your address, I'll send it to you to try. If it works for you we can work out a good price.
I would give totally the opposite advice: Try not to attach too many gizmos to your bass (pickups, preamps, bow quivers, etc.) because they will all rob something from the sound. Deliberately dampening the afterlength of the strings, to me, is a horrific idea. It will completely kill them acoustically.
Might depend on the bass. I use a piece of plastic bendy tube to dampen mine and can't really hear a difference, especially amplified. I;ve also had a piece of cloth wrapped around them and agin didn't really hear a difference. Upton send something similar with their Rev II pickup. I suppose it's compromise, as always, when trying to get a good sound.

+1 on the Acoustic Image. I use it for both DB and slab. I also use a Mesa Walkabout Scout 12 for both.
Interesting! Having said how close they are, you then state that the EAD is the better cab "hands down" - which kind of implies that the difference is massive! Also, I was under the impression that the price difference was quite big! With the "standard" (i.e. not-tweetered and with the steel grille) S12 coming in at £760 vs. £1250 for the Foundation 212. That's a pretty significant price differential I would say! IMO, the EAD cabs really look the business. But my experience of the fit and finish on BFB cabs is that they stand up to a lot more abuse than people think... So yes, they may both be British built and designed 2x12 bass cabs, but the differences mean that they will probably not occupy the same market niche (IMO). Thanks for the review though!
The comparison was with a BF with tweeter so that model starts at £870 + £80 for the speaker surcharge = £950. The EAD was going for around £975 until recently so quite close in monetary terms. EAD gives you a nice cover with the cab too. The difference in sound was there. Both are perfectly usable. The EAD allows you to tweak both the mids and tweeter. That, IMO, gives you much more versatility. And as Peter mentioned, the build detail and quality of the EAD is much better for the price. Two great sounding cabs, different in looks and build methods.

I've had both and prefer adjustable for a few reasons. The first being that I use a Fishman Full Circle It's been the best all 'rounder pickup on the bass so far. Secondly, I've tried 4 or 5 different types of strings on the bass and being able to adjust the action height has helped find the best sound for the strings. Also, I once had a run of many gigs in a row and towards the end was getting tired quickly so dropping the action helped see us through the rest of the gigs. If you have found your perfect string/action for your bass (I am envious) then a fixed bridge would be fine.

Had a great time at the bash. Lots of lovely basses and great people. Thanks to all who organised it. See you at the next one

I've got Animas on my bass. They have quite a unique sound. I wouldn't go quite as far as saying they sound synthetic, but they do have their own sound. Med to low tension depending on your setup. My current setup is quite high so the tension is greater but still easy to play. They are the darkest string on this bass so far, but the loudest. Definitely nothing like Spiros. Previous strings on the bass have been no name steels, Honeys, Evah Weichs. The Velvets are somewhere in between the Evahs and Honeys diameter wise. They are expensive so you need to be sure they are the kind of sound you're looking for.
...nobody yet admitting to playing on the throne!!?
...you'd get a crap tone...

Front room facing the wall with the chimney so the sound bounces back. Any other direction in the room and the sound seems to really disappear. Also, because it's mid-terrace, 8-8:30pm is when I stop.

Interesting but not sure it's worth that money. I usually associate washtub bass to one of these.
A week to go. Still two weekend tickets available. Remember if you are coming down on the Sunday to get a ticket in advance there is no paying on the door.
I've just booked a weekend ticket
£150... sounds like a bargain to me
+1 I have a black one of these that was imported last year. Very cool bass with a big, big sound, incredible for a 32" scale. If you want a short scale bass (medium actually), this is the one to have!

These are great little units, I have 2 or 3 If anyone is sitting on the fence, get it and try it. Works great with double bass and electric bass. That little phase reversal switch does some kind of magic on electric basses. With my passive basses, it changes the tone from focused on one setting to softer and fatter on the opposite setting, especially when recording. Does the same with active basses too. Not sure how or why but it does. Good price here too -
