1. I met up with Paul today to deliver a Kala U Bass. As the others mention, he is a very nice chap and great to deal with. We had great comms through out the transaction. Enjoy the bass Paul.
2. Update: I received this from Carl about the amp. "Hi Tom, The guy that I bought it off had purchased the pair together from new in 1971, so I can only assume the cab is an original 71. However, the speakers I have replaced with the exact same speaks as the original bass cab speakers from 1978, the speakers alone are going for £300-400 for 4 in good condition. As for the spec, they were and are BLACKBACK 55hz bass resonance, and not the GREENBACK 75hz bass resonace, as far as I'm aware, the latter where loaded into the guitar cabs, were the BLACKBACK 55hz were loaded in the bass cabs. Celestion have just re released these exact same speakers as a 70th anniversary model, they were that good. Hendrix preferred the superbass head and bass cabs over the guitar head and cabs, that's partly how he got his signature sound, was through the lower register of the 55hz. Cheers Carl" My advice is do some research about these. I found a few articles that support Carl's email as well as Thornybanks! If you are interested pm me and I'll give you Carl's contact details and you can speak with him about it.
3. Also, I don't know anything about Marshalls so I can't prove or disprove Mr Thornybank's observations. I'll ask Carl about the cab and amp to try and clarify the listing.
4. That is one great looking bass, and great sounding no doubt.
5. Bump for these great cabs. Don't make me keep them Sensible ££ offers considered. No trades please.
6. Bump for Warmoth quality. I built a Warmoth 5 string with swamp ash body and bird's eye maple neck/finger board and the B is tight and massive sounding. Even though they are 34 inch scale, their necks are very stiff which helps the B. Good luck with the sale. The bass looks great
7. Thanks for the comments. It is indeed a tone machine Bump for a loving home.
8.
pm
Replied. Thanks for the comments. Pretty sure it's not koa although the light from the flash makes it look like it. And yes, it's fretted. I'm putting this on hold for a potential sale.
9.
It wasn't me honest guvnor.
Nice one mate, enjoy!
10. Sold Just thought I'd pop a link to the advert in here for my Kala U Bass in Mahogany.
11. Back up for sale bump with pics added.
12. SOLD Up for sale, a Kala U Bass in mahogany with semi-hard case. These models have a solid carved top as opposed to the spruce ones that are laminate. One of the earlier ones, little over a year old. I used this when I was in an acoustic trio playing pop and rock classics and it was a great compliment to the double bass. It gets lots of great comments about the tone deservedly. It will do DB-ish tone to motown thump. I used to run it through an MXR80 that made it sound enormous. Surprisingly easy to play once you get used to the scale. The strings have finally settled in and don't stretch out of tune too badly any more. Strap button added to the neck for better balance. No issues and in very good condition. This model set me back about £430 new. Looking for £300 ono plus postage. No trades, just a sale. Collection always welcome
13.
Nooooooo........a YOB Superbass, with matched cab! Why now?? Sooo tempted. Is shipping an option?
pm'd
14. Carl informed me that this is now sold. Again, selling this for my mate Carl. Updated listing regarding the cab. 1971 Marshall Super Bass 100 with 412 basket weave cab. Loaded with non-original Blackback 55hz Celestions. The owner informed me that the amp was serviced less than 12 months ago including valve biasing and all is ok. I have high res pic of the amps' gubbins. Looks like point to point wiring to me. £1300 PM me for Carl's contact details.
15. I'm bumping this as the sale fell through. I thought about flipping my Mesa for this Still available and at £500 ono.
16. Sounds great. Wish I was a little closer.
17.
Congrats on reaching 4 figures TPJ.
Ha, just noticed that. I really was +1-ing the ADA. I used to go my local music shop and play through theirs until they were tired of me.
18.
Wow! A blast from my past. You want 128 different EQ patches with a choice of SS or valve pre with 2 programmable effects loops? You have come to the right place. These are more fun than is good for you and also sound great.
+1
19. Hi, could you possibly measure the length as well as the length of the wrappings? I have an EUB with a very short tailpiece-to-bridge section and am wondering if these 1/2 scale strings would fit better so the wrapping doesn't go over the bridge.
20. I've tried quiet a few and stuck with the Full Circle. Also, a pedal tuner can work to buffer the piezo or if you're handy with a soldering iron, look at making the fdeck preamp.
21. Wow, sure you want to let that baby go?
22. Shirley is about 5 7/8 inches.
23. I'll check tonight. My preferences for DB neck profiles are the D shaped chunky ones as opposed to some that can be U or even V shaped.
