I found the width of the neck at the nut to be too wide for me. I didn't have the facility on it that I have on my other basses. Still enjoyed it though

Hi Daz. Have you tied the string around the tuning machine and wrapped it around enough? Sounds as though it's slipping. I know it sounds quite obvious but just checking. Otherwise it might be a duff string.

nice going that and really nice tone as well.
I was planning on it being posted both ways and/or paying people for petrol, I'm not that tight about it! Haha ^_^ But no, there's no polystyrene corners left, just the half box. Shouldn't be too hard to rustle something up though.
If you're anywhere near Wakefield you can have my Compact box and corners...I'm keeping my Compact

I keep saying... "You gotta save up for these gigs!" Seriously, voluntarily working for little or no money is one thing, but if it's to be a paying gig, I want to know how much I'll get payed before agreeing to the gig. Hopefully you had fun and got some exposure if nothing else.
Glad to hear it! It's only one negative experience with the Clarus and UL502 I was referring to so maybe I shouldn't write off those pairings just yet (I can't see why it would be a problem either, the impedance curve actually makes Class D amps run even more efficiently as they recycle the back EMF - unlike low power transformer coupled valve amps which run into an impedance matching problem which explains their fussiness). Alex
Interesting. This is good to hear as I plan on using a Compact with an AI Focus. Can't wait

That's great BB. Playing DB is one of the most rewarding things. As stated previously, it's quite physical but you get out what you put in. The fact that others are noticing your playing is a great compliment. Enjoy
Bill doesn't like discussing his designs anywhere but on his own, tightly controlled website where nobody can ask embarrassing questions like, why exactly do you want to build a mid horn for your bass guitar?
Stevie, what are you talking about? Bill is an accomplished engineer who knows what he's talking about. Every time he offers advice all you can do is come up with a lame insult and usually no constructive advice or facts to support what you say. If you go to Bill's sight he and lots of other people with years of experience can help you. They don't generally hang out here becasue of people like Stevie who talk bollocks.

He sounded a great human being. It's great to see those that know him celebrate his life. The sort of person that wants a party instead of a funeral.

You can buy these now so you can make your own isolation platform for less than £20. The Auralex platforms use this as the base with just a carpet covered MDF or chip board covering. Worth the cost of trying but probably still more expensive than the squash/tennis ball solution.

Looks like a lovely bass. Hopefully someone will chime in with any Luthiers in your area. Alternatively, you could get a bridge yourself and have a go at making a new one. Lots of info on tinterweb.
It is indeed a great resource. However I think the OP wanted some guidance on what people generally reckon to be good pickups, and the list has probably added to the confusion more than it's helped Andy
maybe so. Sorry. Getting the right pickup/mic for DB has always been a "suck it and see" affair, at least in my case. I currently use an Upton Revolution 2. It can get a really nice sound but is temperamental in that if you knock it at all, the tone will change. You have to sand down the pup and the wing slot to fit it which is a bit fiddly. I've never had any working issues with it though in the 2+ years using it. It's comparable to the Realist but maybe not as dark sounding. I've also tried shoving a SM57 in the bridge feet with some success but it feeds back at a relatively low stage volume. The Vektor pickup is very interesting in that it's an adjustable contact mike. That may be my next trial when I can save a few bob.

Like others have stated it'd be nice to know what they had problems with e.g. your playing or you, so you can work on it. Don't get too bent out of shape. This is the business, ups and downs. They could want to move to another format. We were electric for several years and now we have no drummer and are acoustic. Maybe it's not personal and just a directional change. Good luck and I'm sure you'll find a new project, you're a bass player after all.

It's sometimes a never ending journey to get your bass amplified the way you like. If you're not playing in very loud situations then you might consider some kind of mic setup like the ATM350 mixed with a pickup. Have a look at this list. Not sure how old it is but it gives you an idea of whats out there. Good luck on your mission
