I hated motorhead but space ritual changed my life the bass and the whole ethos of it.The next big bass player in my life was gary mountfield and loads of roses bass has that great groovy sound. Im very soul funk influenced now but the bass on ritual i think although not as technical was very rooted in that groovy style on a lot of awesome tracks.

Used ableton since year dot,try loads of onboard compression as said make sure its been normalised when rendered to mp3,unfortunately for truly good sound you need one off the better vst plugin in mastering sets/compressors,you will need to spend some dough on these get a demo that lets you do it a few times then stops.........or dare i say it be naughty and get the good pricey ones for free,not that im advocating piracy.........all in all you will need seperate vsts to get a pro sound in my opinion.

Just listened to just about everything the Jackson 5 did and didnt realise quite how superb the tunes were,Jamerson seems to be all over the early stuff wish i new more about the blokes behind the playing,beautiful harmonies and cute hooks. 2-4-6-8 is my fav apart from the more well known ones.

[list] [*]Bernard is my all time fav,hes beyond Jaco for me a lot more straight groove,if Jaco had stayed with his little beaver type stuff instead of getting widdly it would of been awesome ,but then again i am more funk than jazz..I think that Bernards mutes and the fact that they seemed to just go out of fashion later may contribute to his unobtainable sound. They were just there on the instrument when you bought it back then,you didnt think about it. Jamersons mutes were a part of his sound i think...Dont get me wrong though...the fingers are the main thing. [/list]

Introduced my dad to cleaning up recordings type software and plugins etc........Sometimes I wish I hadn't...I love him loads,but the phrase caveman with a calculator does spring to mind.

I really wouldn't worry most people tend to embellish the truth slightly I think.People who made it big tended to have an element of luck on their side too.Besides if you had made it big and been on here you wouldn't have stayed long.Most big names who have come here seem to have taken offence very quickly and left😀

Hmmmmm does anyone else think this might be speeded up slightly just like loads of stuff i cant keep up with.Dont get me wrong im a producer myself and the finished product outweighs the means,but are a lot of those amazing 70s lines tampered tempo wise,i would love to think mr watt-roy and mr edwards were really that fast.Any thoughts?

i watched a 2015 show on youtube and he was talking about how now no one apart from motown would touch him at the time,do you think it could be jamerson? i think it sounds a bit like him.Does anyone think it has the big J all over it,i just think its a killer bassline,

Good Luck Bernard edwards was the king,i also think endurance is the thing and his must have been incredible. The chucking things been known a while i thought he used his thumb as the pick though...I have tried numerous times and failed with the result looking like jackson pollock had got creative with blood. Imagine meeting the guy,jammy bugger.

I find music very powerful,i always turn to her,im quite soft and lovey dovey but groovy and funky in personality when im happy i have been told.When i heard all the emotion in disco music i would compartmentalise certain phrases which just made the hairs on my arms stand up,they are very different but when i think about it the cure and bernard edwards were the people that made me fall for bass so much.I think girls like blokes who play music and are passionate and i like females alot too so that was a big factor ,plus im a huge showoff.

Had a 70s jazz bought early 90s when they were quite cheap and hated it,best bass i had was a fender precision lyte never found anything to top it,that got butchered in a jaco fretless type young and stupid way ,then streamer stage one amongst others using overwater tanglewood at the mo,but dont get on with that even though its pretty and quality,going for sire v7 5er next.Hope this is the one.The saga continues,maybe its me not the bass.The jazz convinced me the vintage thing is bullshit and sentimental though.

After hearing some banjo music my friend and i took the the plunge i had heard earlybird by the eagles and the deliverance stuff,earl scruggs etc......After going for a walk and playing in some local caves and taking the newley aquired banjos with us i am totally hooked! The sound is just so earthy and natural. It must be one of the easiest instuments to get a good sound out of,any other pluckers here.

How come there synths were so good back then! the poly voks pissed on the moog,they cost a fortune now.

I always thought mikey craig from culture club was very good,the break in do you really want to hurt me is just lovely playing,proper gregory issacs lovers reggae.

Having just watched numerous documentarys and music i really wish things had worked out in hawkwind,they are deffo his most interesting lines.I still can't get Motorhead,didn't really like his attitude towards women and thought he was very arrogant in the White line fever book,should really read a Dave brock biog if there is one.,I have taken a lot of speed over the years and it definitely did not leave my willy in any state to sleep with a thousand women,I'm sure he was fibbing about how many he slept with.no denying he was one of the people who made me want to be a musician and I really admired his honesty about things like war,drugs,music etc. it feels a bit like when Freddie Mercury died tbh not a huge fan but loved them being in my dads record collection.RIP Lem.

Awesome drummer,no age really these days.Niteklub and to much to young had fantastic chemistry between drum and bass bet Horace is gutted.

Hash cake 77 is a great example of the early ambient Weird genre,space ritual was probably the first dangerous music I ever listened to after going through my mates weird sisters collection.
