  1. So, International Man Of Mystery it shall be. I just tell people I'm Chief Wringer-Out for a one-armed window cleaner. The trick is to walk away while they're still thinking it through....
  2. Well, now I’m intrigued..... Go on, I won’t tell anybody....
  3. Wow. ”like having a lob-on”? Aren't you just a silver-tongued cavalier.......? 😀
  4. Oh, and the best thing for heft isn’t an Ampeg SVT and 8x10. Turns out it’s a Kirby vacuum cleaner* Who’d a thunk it, eh? *this might make more sense if you’ve been following the whole Dyson-in-his-own-adverts thread.
  5. At least you got the ‘s’ key working again.... Back on topic.... I can drive a car. If the car is full of people, I am the driver. But outside the car, I wouldn’t call myself ‘a driver’. That, to me, is someone who does this for a living. A trucker, a taxi driver, a chauffeur. So, when I am doing music, I am at that moment a musician. But when asked to define myself, I wouldn’t use the term musician. And, to be fair, nor would anyone who’s heard me play....
  6. Whoa! You don’t think you’re getting away with that, do you? Don’t think you can wander in with your contentious questions and then swan off, satisfied, while the debate’s still raging. We’ll get another week out of this at least. Right then. You asked us to help define heft and you’re going to bloody well sit there while we define it for you at least three hundred different ways. Then you can ask your follow up. And that better be “and is ‘heft’ any good for metal?”.... Lol 😆
  7. Er, that's Ricky's, not mine. Mine's here, in my hands, look
  8. Only if we kick Teebs out to take his chances on his own. Which is fine with me..... 😁
  9. Turns out to be a good question and one worth asking, Lou24d53. It's one of those things that can't really be described but we all know it when we hear/feel it. I liken it to acceleration in a car with a lot of torque. It may be the same rate of acceleration as a car with lots of high revving power but the thrust has a different quality to it. In the same way, Heft isn't volume or loudness or bassiness (sic) - but it's related to all these things. I think it's a combination of the cab, the amp, the bass, the strings and the player. All subjective opinion, of course, but i doubt anyone on here would disagree....😁 (retires to shelter and jams fingers in ears)
  10. Thanks 😁 I'll find a link to the PM album and post it back on GC
  11. Well, i just went and posted some stuff on GC. A query about the new BF guitar cab, a comment on a topic about flatwound strings, a rant about a Pat Metheny album and a reply to a query about wireless systems. I'll go back in a few days and see if anyone has read any of them.
  12. Those MR2s were amazing. We went on holiday to the South of France in a Mk1 MR2. 2 weeks camping. When we came to leave, we piled all the stuff, ready to pack and the pile was taller than the car. My then girlfriend was just very slightly obsessive about neatness and spent the next three hours getting it all in. Took her a few goes but it all went in. She attracted quite a crowd and a round of applause (although that could have been the shorts). And i used to have a Volvo V70 which was a much more sensible choice - but this is my midlife crisis and so I'm having a Fiat 124! Could be worse - could be a motorbike 😁
  13. I've not spent a lot of time on GC because there's more going on here.... Which makes it a self perpetuating thing, I guess, particularly while the majority of members are BCers. I'll try and get over there more often, if only because I can talk about jazz over there....
  14. This is Basschat. It's the main thing. 😁
  15. Hahaha! Don't you hate it when that happens?! Thanks anyway, Jack. Not heard much about GSS cabinets but they look interesting. Or would if, y'know.......
  16. I once bough a k-line guitar 'closet classic'. Not reliced, just 'dulled'. It plays beautifully and sounds awesome but i hate the feel of the dulled, rusted hardware. Someone deliberately ruined a perfectly good guitar. In fact, now i think about it, i might strip it down and give it a respray and a new bridge and tuners. I can't make it any worse than it already is....
  17. I've just pulled the trigger on a One10. I thought long and hard about the PJB extension cab but I've already had one and, light as it is, it's still twice the weight of the One10. Thanks for all the input, guys. Really useful 😁
  18. It can only be a good thing in my view. A genuine patina of use is one thing. Taking a sander to a perfectly good bass almost smacks of sharp practice....
  19. Give me a licorice torpedo and you can have me virtue too
  20. OK. I'll come clean. I need to declare a commercial interest. Basically, I'm anybody's for a couple of jelly babies and a sherbet dib-dab.
  21. I just met up with Paul to sell him my Dingwall ABZ 5/3. He drove a fair old distance to meet me and was kind enough to split the PayPal fees with me. We communicated quite a bit exploring trade options before agreeing the deal and Paul replied to every message promptly. Clearly, this is the same experience that everyone else has had when dealing with Paul and I can only echo what everyone else has said - Paul is a true gentleman, the perfect BCer and i would trust him absolutely in any future dealings. Thanks for such an easy sale, Paul, I hope you get years of pleasure from the Dingwall 😁 Dave
  22. That Symphonic tour was awesome. I saw them in Brighton and you're right, he was immense. Two solo albums? I have FOOW and the one he did with Steve Hackett but i wasn't aware of a second solo album....
