  1. I want one of those outfits. In fact, I want to be in that band. You know that thread that we have running about not taking oneself too seriously....these guys would take the crown
  2. I hated the idea of eBooks right until the point when i got a kindle. Best invention ever! It saves me a huge amount of room both in the house and in my luggage when i go on holiday.
  3. With Brian Blessed in a regular cameo role. Every time Sting appears, he pops up and says........ *wait for it* ”Gordon’s arrived!” * I’ll get me coat....
  4. No we don’t. We is rebels. We is da fewcha an’ we don’ need to respeck no one and nuffin’. Ya dig me, blud?
  5. Ah, oui. Le telly. Pardonnez-moi. J’ai oublie que papa habite en France. Je suis certainement un billy silly.
  6. I can’t play with a pick so I’d be useless with a banana....
  7. At this time of night? He’ll be snoring in front of the telly
  8. Ive just ordered some d’addario chrome flats for it. The stock strings are really bright and I think the bass has enough articulation to be able to handle flats without sounding muddy. Anyone else using flats on one of these?
  9. skinnyman: (Aside to audience) These fools send me their money and think I’m saving it for them! They don’t know that they have bought me a yacht and a boob job! (to Teebs and Ricky) Of course, chaps. It’s all safely put away in our private account! You can trust me (mwah, hah, hah, hah) (Exits, sniggering to himself. Curtain)
  10. They’ll be down the subterranean headquarters again, getting their weekly injections from Ped.
  11. Surprised the profanity filter didn’t go off there.... No he’s not. Haven’t seen a penny
  12. it has to be said. Ubit is not the man I had pictured from his posts. Oban has definitely changed in the last forty-odd years. Still, I’m all for a bit of diversity. And they don’t come much more diverse than that. I suspect that Mrs Ubit carried his outfit off rather better than he presents hers.....
  13. To be honest, I was going for humorous effect.... I was trained to put milk in first so that the hot water wouldn't shatter a China cup, so - irrespective of anything those smart-@rses at QI might say - thats what i do. Anything else is clearly wrong and should be illegal
  14. I can't be certain but i thought it was Rangers - but his well known support for Celtic has always made me question my memory. Maybe i was right after all....
  15. After all these years I'm doing well to remember that it was Hamilton so the club name has definitely gone. I was working in (another) Curry's store and one of the salesmen worked in this club that was owned by his Dad. Apparently, Rod used to host a private party there every year for his preferred football team (and i can't now remember if it was Celtic or Rangers) - they wanted casual bar staff for the night and he asked me if I fancied earning a few quid.....
  16. That's a shame as I put a lot of effort (and hangovers) into that store. The whole 'Scottish experience' was brilliant and as a naive young man, I learned an awful lot of life lessons from the people i encountered. I still remember the chill feeling when out for a drink with the hotel receptionist up in Wick and her trawlerman boyfriend came back early from a fishing trip. He was about nine foot tall with hands like sides of ham..... I also remember the local ambulance used to go past the shop with lights and sirens every lunchtime so the driver could nip home for his lunch.... See, you've started me off now......
  17. Loving it, thanks. Very much what NFF says. I'm trying hard to get the strings broken in and see what it sounds like then but the probability is that I'll put some flats on it. I really like how easy it is to play and how light it is. I've been having trouble (as documented elsewhere) learning a couple of pieces and my thinking was that i could use a SS bass to get myself fully up to speed and then transfer to the "big" bass. The theory seems to be holding up in practice but the bass is turning out to be so much more than I'd expected. I always take a spare bass to gigs and this is perfect - I'd happily gig it as the main bass too. So, all in all, very pleased. Thanks for doing the market research for me 😁
  18. I have very fond memories of Oban. I opened a branch of Currys up there back in the seventies, staying at Mrs McLeod's guest house for the three months it took to train up the staff and get it all ready. Did loads of walking, got taught to fly fish, saw a good few bands and learnt to drink properly. It followed a few months in Dumbarton, 3 months in Glasgow and was followed by final stint in Wick and Thurso. Happy days..... Ooh, look at me getting all dewy-eyed and nostalgic..... I served Rod Stewart a drink once in a night club in Hamilton. That is my only claim to fame.....and I suspect he's forgotten all about it 😕
  19. Mike just bought my Squire Bass VI, travelling a decent way to come and meet me. As others have said - and as I know from my two previous transactions with him - Mike is a great guy to do business with. Deal with confidence!
