Hmmm. You're not up for the same gig as me are you? I've been asked to learn it as an audition piece 😎 😁 And i have to agree - it's not "hard" as such but getting the right groove going is really tricky. Nice when you nail it though and there are some lovely runs in there. The other one that - for me - is in the category of 'easy-but-surprisingly-hard-to-get-right' is Going Up The Country by Canned Heat. Dead simple 12 bar - but i really had to work to get it up to speed. I now use it as a warm up/workout piece

Been after a short scale bass for a while and having sold my Bass VI, I traded in an old 12 string acoustic to get this wee thing on @Teebs' recommendation I'm not convinced about the colour but I'm very impressed with the noise it makes. I'm even more impressed with having some change from the deal 😀

I do it the way you describe. My amp has a valve preamp stage so I set the gain on that to get the amount of “grit” I want and then use the master volume to control how much noise I make. The only time I might do it differently is if I had a valve power amp and wanted to drive the output stage.

I'm afraid I commit both of the sins highlighted in this thread. And i do so knowingly and with a big, cheesy, look-at-me grin on my face. But then, what I do in the privacy of my own house, in front of my own mirror is nobody's business but mine. I'd never do it at a gig though.....
