The Opsix sounds like a hell of a beast. I’m still getting my head round the depths of the Wavestate. The actual programming is relatively simple, especially through the editor. The challenge is turning the concept in one’s head into a usable sequence without it becoming yet another pad. It’s an easy way to lose a few hours though and the sheer flexibility of the thing is incredible. I use it mostly with an external controller so I have the full 88 keys available. I’m also playing with driving it from my GR55 guitar synth and turning it into the world’s most elaborate delay pedal 😂 The other project is to hook it up to the workstation and have sequences running on the Wavestate use the voices on that. My only beef is that they need to improve the filter/search capabilities of the editor to make it easier to find patches and presets.

I held off getting the WaveState until firmware 2.0 was released and stable. The new editor and librarian make programming it so much easier. It sounds like they’ve made similar strides with the Opsix.

Lol Congratulations on the Opsix. I looked long and hard at the Opsix versus the Modwave and Wavestate - in the end I got the Wavestate but I can see a place for all three on my desk. Revoews suggest that the Opsix can do a lot of what the DX7 did but is much easier to program? I’ll be interested to see how you get on with it….

Sold my Ibanez 5 string to Ian. A really easy transaction; prompt payment, prompt responses to emails and generally just a pleasure to deal with. Was quite relaxed when UPS screwed up and failed to deliver on Saturday as booked. Certainly more patience than I have 😁 Exactly what a BC transaction should be. Thanks, Ian, enjoy the Ibby!

Now sold I bought this a little while ago to satisfy my craving for a guitar with a good range of tonal options, including an acoustic tone. As things have turned out, I’ve carried on using my Roland GR55 live and my actual acoustic at home so I’ve ended up not using this anywhere as much as it deserves. The colour is Peacock Blue. Comes with a nice hard case and there isn’t a mark on the guitar - it is absolutely pristine. Available to try in sunny Lincolnshire or I can travel to meet/deliver - PM for details. I don’t have suitable packing so I’d really rather not post but if there’s no other option, let me know and I’ll get some quotes. Shipping would be at the buyer’s expense, to UK addresses only and to established Guitarchat or Basschat members. I’ll get some photographs in the next day or so. In the meantime, here’s a stock photo of the model in question… And a video of (a brown) one in action…. As promised, some pictures… Any questions, please PM me.

The only ones I know of are the manufacturer-specific Korg Forums (there are probably Roland and Yamaha equivalents) or the synth-centric and pretty intimidating for a newcomer, gearspace. I’ve found both useful from time to time; the Korg forum for specific help with, er, a Korg workstation and gearspace for the reviews (although they tend to fight like cats in a sack so every review tends to be Newtonian in that every opinion expressed one way is countered by an equal and opposite opinion from somebody else). I’ve not found the keyboard equivalent of BassChat. Rather than a separate forum, perhaps we could claim a little corner here or over on Guitarchat to talk about our secret vice?

NOW SOLD Used just three times so in immaculate condition. I’d like to say “mint” but there’s no box, just the Shure pouch and the manual. The mic itself is mint though 😁 The vintage styling doesn’t work for our 80s cover band (which is why it’s up for sale) but it’s perfect for blues, rockabilly, etc. Price includes UK postage. Some blurb from Shure; Shure 55SH Series II Unidyne Vocal Microphone Iconic design brings a touch of vintage class to your performances Get just the sounds you want with the focused cardioid pickup pattern Shock mounted capsule reduces noise from handling the mic or stand Rugged, die-cast housing can withstand whatever you throw at it A timeless sound in a time-honoured design. It's no wonder the Shure 55SH Series II Unidyne Vocal Microphone has been an icon for over half a century. For any performer looking to evoke a classic era of music, there's no other choice. The 55SH marries vintage warmth with the clarity and definition you have come to expect from a modern microphone. An articulate, lush sound makes it perfect for vocalist of all styles, as well as speech and broadcasting. It's a microphone that lets you join the rich history of music.

Maybe Everyone In The USA Isn't Dim After All...

I’m not sure that being Welsh is a protected characteristic so Mrs R was probably okay. -
I bought this earlier in the year as part of a project to add some (simple) synth leads and pads to the 80's songs we cover. I'm not a keyboard player and I knew nothing at the time about subtractive synthesis or how to program a synth. The Gaia seemed the perfect machine to learn on. The experiment was very successful and I've since upgraded to a full blown Korg workstation. Much as I like the Gaia, I just don't need it any more so I'm moving it on. The Gaia has been around for a good number of years now and it's main strength is the simplicity of use; it's a great way of learning to to create custom sounds. With three independent oscillators, LFOs, filters and envelopes, it's an amazingly flexible synth and I've been able to get pretty close approximations of all the synths from the songs we cover. The 64 factory presets are good, it also has standard GM2 sounds and there are additional sound libraries available from the Roland website. It's in excellent condition and I have the box, manual and power supply for it. It's pretty obvious from the box what's in it so I'd prefer not to post. As I travel around quite a bit, please PM me to see if we can find a convenient meeting place or whether I can drop it off.Alternatively, it's available for collection (and a quick try out) from the sunny Lincolnshire coast. Some pictures;

Odd how the eyes play tricks. I read this as “thanks to the meds for keeping this place running” Which may be truer than we know 😁

Just sneeze extravagantly a couple of times and mutter “bloody Omicron” and you’ll have the place to yourself

What? I put them on last Tuesday. I want to be sure they’re cooked through. Merry Christmas one and all, and a huge thank you to the mods for all their hard work, patience and - I’m sure - restraint over the last twelve months. God bless us all, every one!

God can forgive, but Clapton can't

As a serial offender, I’d best shut up as well -
That looks really nice.

I was there on the 11th. Took a mate from Liverpool who didn’t care for Zep apart from Stairway. He got so p*ssed, he fell asleep half way through their set and missed them playing it. I still have the program upstairs along with the one from 1978 (Genesis)

As mentioned earlier by @Ricky 4000, if the guitar is too loud, I’d be tempted to turn my volume down. I’ve got one of those sound level apps on my phone and last time our guitarist was getting too loud, I started getting progressively quieter until he finally noticed and asked me to turn up. When I pointed out that the volume in the room was still over 120dB with basically just him and the drummer playing and maybe we should look at dropping levels rather than adding more, he finally got the point and wound it back. If you’re lost in the mix, try changing your EQ a bit rather than adding volume? Boost the mids and cut back the lows and see if that helps. And if the guitar cuts a solo short, make sure you do the full “glare across and slow head shake” look so it’s clear to anyone watching that it was him that just screwed up.

Ooh. Tricky. I grew up in Kendal (a couple of school years behind you if you grew up there too) and I know what you mean about the limited options. There used to be a pretty strong folk scene so rather than going back to the Bass Shed, maybe there's scope to find something outside the pub circuit? Or outside Kendal? There's a very strong musical theatre group in Burneside who may welcome a bass player to sit in the pit? Whatever happens, it sounds like you're saddled with the gig so I guess you need to try and make it works best you can. I'd still have a (quiet) word with the drummer - ask him how he copes with the guitarist going off piste and can he give you any tips? Ditto the rhythm guy - he must have similar issues so how does he deal with them? If you can lock in with the drummer and follow him, you might be able to learn to work round the guitarist's wilder flights of fancy.
-
Tricky. I think I'd have gone by now, The volume thing would be enough for me. This shouldn't be about just you and the guitarist. Have you talked to the drummer and Rhythm guitarist about this? If they're of the same mind as you, why don't you all walk? Assuming that they've got the same issue, you could all agree that you three will play the song as per the original structure (plus any variations that you've agreed in advance). Then - collectively - tell the guitarist that if he wants to deviate from this "in the moment", he needs to give you all a visual cue of some sort or you will all carry on following the agreed structure and he will sound like a complete idiot. Then implement and stick to this policy religiously until either he "gets it" or you all walk. Of course, if they don't see a problem then maybe you need to find a band with a better standard of musicians. There is a difference between being able to play an instrument and being able to make music in a band with other people and it seems that you're the only one seeing that distinction. Good luck with it PS Unless you're certain that the gig won't be a car crash, I'd be gone well before it

Is oiling your fretboard a bad thing?

Charles Saatchi, I’d imagine. While I’m here, I saw the thread title and assumed it was a euphemism. Wrong again. Life is full of such minor disappointments. Oh well, -
The machine in the bog in our local doesn’t need all that faffing about. Two quid, pull the lever thing and…… Sorry. As you were. These bloody glasses

Any experience of band members in the police service?
Skinnyman replied to Len_derby's topic in General Discussion
First band I was in had a copper as drummer. He was in a Firearms Response Unit (or whatever they’re called) so spent most of his days driving around with the occasional emergency call out to some incident. He knew his schedule well in advance and we booked gigs around it. I’d guess that your drummer may struggle to fit in gigs and practice when she’s doing her initial training but once she’s past that, it should be workable - although having a deep on hand for those last-minute emergencies probably won’t hurt.
