1. Bump - will stick these remaining pedals on eBay if nobody wants them.
2. The GR-20 has now been sold but the GK-3B is still available for £65 incl. postage.
3. He's not real, your parents buy your presents.
4.
I was in a similar boat to you. My band just didn't suit Ricks (or is it the other way round?). Now I am temporarily bandless I decided to chase the tone I've been after for years and bought a brand new Mapleglo 4003. I generally don't use picks, and although the Rick sounds great fingerstyle, I find myself gravitating towards using a pick whenever I play it - it just feels right on this bass, and the growl is utterly wonderful.
If I was to get one it would be mapleglo. That mapleglo fretless with front dot markers that has been for sale here a couple of times is one of the best looking basses I've ever seen.
5.
So if you want to hear/own all 20 tracks you need to buy the album twice? very sneaky!
But at 20 songs for £15 that's still decent.
6. If I had a gig for a Ric I'd be really keen to buy one, but I see them as a 'pick sound' bass and I rarely use a pick. Very pretty basses though.
7. I've seen them advertised as "70s" pickguards but I never knew what the hole was for either. Glad you asked.
8. Seems fair enough, it will generate some publicity if nothing else, they're not exploiting anybody.
9. Learning theory might not be as Hollywood as learning some slap licks but it will expand your utility much more, make you more useful to a band, and most importantly keep your playing fresh and stave off that feeling of 'I'm just playing the same old things every time I pick up the bass' which can be a real drag. Maybe get one of the tutorial books that take you through the theory grades and a more specific bass instructional book/cd and see where that gets you. A little theory goes a long way, and a moderate amount of theory will make you the one-eyed king in the kingdom of blind local guitarists.
10. I think the synth sold this afternoon, just awaiting payment now, sorry. I still have the pickup itself, which can go for £65 if anybody's interested?
11. I deliberately picked bass because someone pointed out that all my favourite songs had prominent bass parts, but I would've been happy playing drums, and with home studios being how they are I'm sure I could find ways to keep myself jolly if I couldn't play bass any more.
12.
People buy them. They don't play them.
I've got two, don't think I've played them beyond tuning them up...
13. Ah man that blows. I've not had any elbow issues (yet) but I'm in my mid '30s, a programmer by profession and a bass player otherwise, and my wrists now insist that I decide how I am going to spend the limited time they will allow me. I can't play as much as I want to any more, I'm too worried that my wrists will get worse and never get any better. Hoping your elbow sorts itself out.
14.
Shadow 950 or Krivo mag pickup > LR Baggs Venue DI preamp > Acoustic Image Clarus+ > EA Wizzy 12 or Midget T, with option of adding Mackie C200 when PA system monitoring is poor
Sounds good. What's all that worth if you don't mind me asking?
15. In the late '90s when you could sequence your own mono ringtones on the Nokias, I had that.
16. Anyone else open this thread expecting something about Afrika Bambaataa? Showing my age a bit.
17. I really rate Yamaha's beginner stuff, my first 'proper' bass (after my awful, awful £50 Satellite Jazz copy) was one of their RBX basses. Definitely try both the Squiers though, one might feel more comfortable than the other, and at least then you'll have an idea of whether to look for a Jazz-like or Precision-like neck (Jazzes are more tapered and feel smaller). The current Squiers are good basses I've got one here that I happily gigged all last year and I've been playing 20 years.
18. And for balance, some not-at-all-metal fuzz bass: That's a green Sovtek Big Muff.
19.
Has the internet really affected stores this badly?!
I bet Basschat's marketplace section has been the biggest impact.
20. Clunk, bzzrrrzzz, ting, brrrzzzz, tink, ting, clunk... Is there any tone that can make music out of bass tapping?
