Lost half of my right thumb in a bike accident
sh*t. Don't know what else to say! Hope you can still ride your bike because your hitchhiking days are over dude.

I've been playing flats and DB for the past four months or so, had to pick up my Warwick (with slinkies on it) last weekend to do some recording and it felt very weird! Like the strings were scabby.

Damn what happened to you?

I suggest you loan it to me for an undefined period while I... prepare a review. Yes. A review. *fiendish cackling*

Bring it.
You got rid of a sh*t band member and you got the guitarist to just "walk off"? Let me know how you did that, I need tips.
Their timing is terrible, what a pair of idiots. But yeah at least they're gone.
I have a 3 band eq model, my bass of choice for noodling at the moment it's really lovely to play. Out of interest where are the typical dead spots, I have a few rays and never really noticed (which is not unusual for me), but I'll nip home and scrutinise them this evening!
Somewhere between frets 6 and 9 on the G (on pretty much every Stingray I've ever played), somewhere around fret 4 on the E if you're really unlucky. Often they're not really noticable until you plug in an effect that relies on sustain to do its job (octavers, harmonisers, envelope following effects too to some extent) and then suddenly they're the most annoying things in the universe.

I had one for a bit last year but moved it on, dead spots on the neck in the typical Stingray places let it down. Probably wouldn't have been such a big deal but I was using it with lots of effects and it caused too many tracking problems. It did sound good on its own though.
Ever play San Andreas then? Absolute tunes though.
I know the Ice Cube track is in that game, are the others? Yeah I have played it but I'm also 35, so I knew all the words anyway.

Would you play a style thats not to your taste ?

I might do the occasional thing if someone I liked asked me to do it, but I wouldn't sign up for a regular gig doing music that didn't move me, no. -
I love the 25th Anniversary model that this is based on, but perhaps the colour is putting me off. That and the fact that the Big Al is so funky looking with the same electronics package. I think I'd go for the Big Al personally. But then again, I love the look of the Bongo, too.
Yeah I think I agree, I like the new electronics but I'm struggling to like any of the new bodies. The Big Al is the one I like the most but it still looks a bit like a watered-down design to me. I get the feeling they've got some talented designers but their work keeps getting filtered through skeptics before it gets produced. Everything looks a bit too soft.
I personally think Fenders are overrated too (now there's can of worms).
Yeah I think they're pretty but the sound doesn't suit me. I think you have to play a certain way to make a Fender sound right. I suppose that's what comes with such a long history.

Glad to hear it's back to business. Be sure to tell the vocalist what to expect if it happens again.
And in that spirit I can proudly say that it matters not what bass I choose to play, how I dress or indeed which direction I comb my hair in - any time I step on stage, I will never fail to look like a gigantic, absurd arse
I think that's why I'm jealous of the Bongo-buyers. They're probably all much better-looking than I am and they still get the winks even if their bass looks like sh*t.

Actually I think Dood's design isn't so bad. I wouldn't be seen dead with it myself, but in terms of compositional balance it seems to work. Similarly the angular design where the wood continues over the top of the headstock, that genuinely looks like an original design and not just a "Me-Too" single-cut lets-make-basses-look-like-sluggish-sea-creatures nonsense drawing. I quite like that too. So there are possibilities for this design aspect to work, but compared to double-cutaway designs it's just not as good. So why are all the bespoke builders developing single-cut ideas these days? I never did really get fashion.

There are a few forums I visit daily and hope there's something to talk about because it's better than actually doing any work. But I'm self-employed, so I remain poor... I did quit a few forums last year when I noticed the impending tax return deadline and this wasn't one of the ones I quit so I suppose I'd rank it in my top 5. FWIW I didn't stop visiting Talkbass either.
Not at all, ThisNameIsTaken - Yours was one of the more common sense variety. Much appreciated viewpoint sensibly put
Good. I didn't think you'd read it the wrong way but there's a growing movement against me I think (maybe my fault) so I just wanted to head you off at the pass. I'm not expressing myself well here these days, or I just grate on some people, or something. About to resort to O/T to try to sort it out...
As for those seeing a good opportunity to have a personal swipe at me, keep trying assholes
Hope you didn't take my post the wrong way, it was firmly tongue-in-cheek.
In the threads you mention, I don't think other people are asking "what do you think? I'll ignore my own opinions and follow yours", I think people are just voicing their own opinions. You like the way your gear looks and probably would say so if the topic came up, why shouldn't other people? Especially with things like Bongos and Gus that have unique looks.
He's got a point there OTPJ you're always posting photos of that Status, it's obvious you've got a total boner for that bass.

Yeah I've had to go right back to basics, but it's nice to take pride in a few notes well played. No doubt in a few months I'll be back to too many notes played badly so I'm going to enjoy this while I can.
That'll be a first
Sorry if I upset you by not blindly accepting your "the design facilitates good technique blah blah" nonsense and instead making you look a bit daft. I'll shut up and let you rabbit on in future, it's not like anyone was listening.
