Can you adjust the resonance on the Q tron?
Yep, it's the Peak control (or the Q control on some models). It is quite a peaky-sounding filter anyway, you either like that sound or you don't. I think it's a good filter tbh, I only shifted mine because I needed more flexibility.
I may be wrong but I thought the effect he uses on that was a phaser.
The story goes that it's a Mu-Tron III with dying batteries.

Sounds like you need a hobby. I end up here way too often lately, I think because work's a bit slow. And the work that is coming in I just can't be bothered to do.

TBH I think my current band could do with a bit of this, but I'm not about to suggest it because I'm 10 years old than the rest of them and god knows what they'd have me wearing. Not to mention all the catching up I'd need to do on tattoos...

Looks nice. Does he have a website?
i need it for a red hot chilli song sir psycho sexy,
If it's just that one song, look at the EHX Bassballs. It's very cheap and will do the job. If you want something more versatile prepare to delve into the biggest can of worms in bass effects.
I have played a few 55-02 Skylines in the past and quite like them although the necks just didn't really do it for me. To me the necks just felt a bit cheap and I found them quite chunky and angular if that doesnt sound too odd.
You won't like the USA models either - they square off the fingerboards rather than rounding off the edges, that's what makes them feel cheap and mechanical. I don't like them either. I also think Lakland are responsible for stupid bollocks ideas like through-body stringing and 35" scale being beneficial in some appreciable way.

I haven't tried the newer BBs but on the old '80s models I preferred active electronics on the fretless, and passive on the fretted. Both were great basses but the fretless needed the on-board EQ and the fretted didn't, IMHO.

If you don't know the value, stick it on eBay with international shipping offered as an option and see what you get for it. You can only sell here if you know what your asking price is. To be honest I think big fans of those sorts of players will be in the market for a more expensive bass. Not necessarily a better bass, just one that they think is better because it's more expensive.

Weedy G-string (stop sniggering)
thisnameistaken replied to radansey's topic in Repairs and Technical
Is this your first 5-string? Do you pick the G especially differently to the other strings (different angle of attack, different preferred finger maybe)? -
TBH I used to bung on a lot of vibrato in loud passages, just to make it sound a bit nutsy and unpredictable. I didn't gliss much except for the occasional harmonic or double stop octaves leading into big dynamic changes. To me the thing that makes fretless uncool is that most players use it for slow songs, or bury it in chorus. Or both. Fretless sounds much more interesting when wielded aggressively! Case in point.

Fretless is seriously out of fashion at the moment because it's so closely associated with chorus-soaked '80s music. It's a much more interesting instrument than that. I played nothing but fretless for about 5 years in the '90s, I really liked how expressive it could be. And I don't mean "cheesy ballad expressive" either.

There's no science involved, it's God's will. On the third day he created the bridge (the rest of the week was spent on floating trems) and he saw that it was slightly wonky.

Please help me spec a rack bag
thisnameistaken replied to lone_groover's topic in Accessories and Misc
I never got this thing about leaving 1U ventilation gaps in racks either. Rackable gear has ventilation running front-to-back anyway, so leaving giant gaps above/below stuff is pretty pointless. -
what does a synth count as?
The BMS counts as either an octaver or a distortion, or both. If you use the -1 Octave slider you should put it first in your chain, otherwise you'll have tracking issues.
When you play in a band your singer and your drummer need to rely on your fundamental backbone, not your echo, chorus flairs, or wah wah sweeps, no Sir.
You can still put out a strong bass presence with some carefully-built effected sounds though, or blend your effected sound with your clean sound if your effected sound isn't that strong down below (or blend it with an analogue octaver which I often do). One gig I was doing last year, they were doing a kind of neo-soul/house sound, the singer and songwriter very rarely wanted a bass guitar sound, so I ended up using effects on almost every song. In my current gig (punk/rocksteady/hip-hop) I'm mostly playing a Jazz with flats straight into the amp, but there are still tunes where I change up the sound of the bass with effects when the song changes character or behind a solo or something. More subtle than the previous gig but still makes a good impact. Depends entirely on the gig. If you're in a straight-ahead rock band then no, you probably won't need any effects.
Captain Beefheart's Magic Band had two bassists in the early '70s. IIRC, Rockette Morton (Mark Boston) on rhythm bass and Orejón (Roy Estrada) on bass.
Any relation to Erik Estrada?

My most commonly used pedal by a bloody mile is my OC-2, because I've never met anybody who didn't love the sound of it. The first one I had, was given to me by a guitarist who couldn't find a use for it. Thank you! Second-most-used is my Octavius Squeezer, which I got because I needed a decent envelope/ADSR filter with patch memory. But it turned out the fuzz on it is great and the oscillator is a nice thing to throw in sometimes too. TBH I'm tempted to move on all my other pedals because those two pretty much cover everything I need.
Total opposite, if I'm not having fun I'm not doing it. I have enough of work at work.
+1. It's important to get stuff done (otherwise why bother) but I think if you're in a band for the long haul it's got to be fun hanging out with those people.

Bass guitarists taking up DB
thisnameistaken replied to thisnameistaken's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I am taking all this in I swear, I'm just waiting for my teacher to find a slot for me. He's supposed to be coming over next week at some point. Left hand/arm is coming along quite well now I think, but trying to keep both left and right hand technique correct at the same time is like asking a drunk man to rub his tummy and pat his head! I'm sure it will feel natural at some point but 20 years of self-taught bass guitar bad habits are tricky to break. -
A demonstration if one were needed of how hard it is to sell guitars of questionable provenance for ten times the amount they're actually worth. Hope Leeds is next.

I went for a first jam with a band last December that started out fairly positive but by the end of the night the guitarist was showing me what he wanted me to play and telling me what sort of bass sound he wanted, and despite telling me in emails that he was into a lot of the same music as me, all his sounds came out like country rock or Oasis. Drummer was ace, but looked as bored as I did. Wish I'd got the drummer's number but it would've looked conspicuous!
