For me the defining character of it is the way the filter closes regularly at a set rate, so your best bet would be the EHX Bass Micro Synth. Although I don't know how you'd add that sharp attack 'click' (or even if you want it). I don't know anything cheaper that has an "ADSR"-style filter envelope. Maybe the Line 6 FM-4 does it too, but I don't know, and that's an expensive and bulky box just like the BMS.

So who's going to be first to tell us he's pushing the bass guitar forward as an instrument and we're all just jealous that we can't play like that?
-
The fact that he took five basses to that little gig says quite a lot, I think.
Alternatively, the best value for money bass in that price range is, IMHO, a Lakland 55-01.
Bear in mind that's a 35" scale, might feel very long to someone coming from guitar.

was looking for a bit of db inspiration...

Is that that Israeli guy? I've seen his videos before, he's really very tasty. -
See my sig, I've got three of 'em. Best instruments I've ever played.
Yeah I saw that after I posted, don't think I've heard anyone say anything bad about Spectors or Laklands here. It's usually Warwicks that get all the stick but that's usually from the Fender fans who buy and sell basses every other week. I've had my Warwick for five years, that's all I'm saying.
If I'd have taken advice in this way I'd never have found my favourite instrument as they aren't popular and are definitely uncool (according to the masses here).
This is no fun unless you tell us which horrendous bass you bought.

Why is when anyone asks for buying advice they get adverts?

Any delay will do, pick the one with the features and sound you want. Currently this one is interesting me.
The finish on my Organic is, er, unfinished. After many hours the neck's now smoothed out beautifully and it a real joy to play. Are all Jazz necks laquered? Had a Strat with a laquered neck a few years ago. Couldn't get on with it.
Maybe a Warwick would be more up your street - curved bodies with wax finishes are common on the top-end models. You could pick up something like that used for under a grand on here (when they come up). Tonally they tend to have quite an obvious mid-range purr-y character to them but they're still pretty flexible.

Weather + Amp delivery = MASSIVE DELAY
thisnameistaken replied to jamesbass116's topic in General Discussion
this will leave me with at MOST 4 days, to play through, find my settings and try to find any faults on the amp before the musical dates set in. ARGH
Plenty of time, assuming there's nothing wrong with it when it arrives. But if there was something wrong with it then receiving it this Wednesday wouldn't make any difference. Have to say though I've had no issues with deliveries during this snowfest, had a few bits and bobs turn up through ****tylink and ParcelFarce with no delays. -
Warwick Adam Clayton Reverso Bass

Even Adam Clayton can play Adam Clayton's bass lines with one hand. -
Just why is blues so important when learning bass?
thisnameistaken replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
The Blues are only as boring as you make them
I've heard a lot of pub bands who must've worked their arses off then. -
Well that's a bit good. Bloody hell.

Eh? How does that work?

1 in 1 Out And An Argument No Doubt!!

Under-rated: Simon Gallup. Evidence: Jumping Someone Else's Train Lovesong Close To Me Over-rated: I'm not going to pick one. It was going to be Squarepusher, but I actually think he's dead good, I just don't like most of what he does. I'm happy to concede he's an amazing musician though, and in a way I admire him for continuing to do music I don't like even though I don't like it.
I think a lot of people slag off the technique experts saying they have no soul etc purely because they cant and will never reach that standard of bass playing.
I don't. I'm content that I'm no virtuoso and never will be, but I still don't like listening to Vic. I don't like his tone, and I don't like most of what he plays, that's all there is to it. Actually I'm not convinced that anybody can make bass guitar sound nice when it's played fast - all you get is attack.
Its people like wooten who push boundarys for the bass so its not just stuck at the back being boring.
I disagree with that too. The people who push the boundaries for the rest of us are the ones who make the bass a prominent part of a popular record, the ones who capture the imagination of the public with their playing, rather than the attuned ears of other bass players.
"Save a prayer"!!! - in the verse - Why did John Taylor play a Maj 3rd over a minor chord? It's plain wrong, and sounds horrible. Wince every time I hear it.
I think that's probably the best note he ever played. I don't really understand why it sounds so good but I love it, it gives the song a more interesting character than it otherwise would have. I think it's a good example of what I was saying above, of a bass player who's put something different into a hit song and as a result given bass players more confidence to do the same. -
You mean like this chap?
I think he's brilliant I really do. He should be a teacher, assuming he isn't a teacher.
In a similar vein, I like the look of these Airline Map basses...
I was looking at Eastwood's Hi-Flier copy the other day, I so want a Hi-Flier bass. Nice to know good old Ed rates their stuff.
Find a black piano key
Yeah I'm always picking those up off my garden, bloody kids, there's a bin on the corner they could be putting their unwanted piano parts into.
