I think we all understand the difference between music with a good bass guitar part and music for trade shows, right? Still, those trade show techniques are worth learning if you aspire to play at trade shows. Just don't do them in your band or they'll all think you're a twat.

I use the pickup mix control and the position of my picking hand more than the tone knobs on my active bass, but I do sometimes wish there was more treble cut available on it when I've got new roundwounds on there. I definitely wouldn't want to wire straight to the output though.

I prefer unlined boards, I think lines ruin the look of a fretless.

I don't really notice because I rarely get up there but I slid up for an A on the 19th fret the other day in practice and had a "bloody hell" moment when I got there. Missed it by a mile, there were just so many frets to choose from!

I did the last time, but that was to get some padding between the roundwound strings and the fretless pau ferro fingerboard, since the bass might end up laying face-down for long periods. But yeah normally I'd agree with the above wisdom, that string tension is probably better than none, unless you loosen the truss rod too. But if I received a bass in the post with the truss rod all slack I'd be a bit grumpy about it.

Nice to see Ernie McKone getting some recognition, he never gets a mention in this 'ere forum and he grooves HARD.

Our trumpet player is in the habit of filming songs in rehearsals when she doesn't have a part to play, and yeah I muck it up every couple of bars when she does. I've started making sure she's always got a part, so that's solved the problem.

I do like to listen to albums as albums, regardless of storage format. I still think of music in terms of albums - good album, bad album, skip that one, etc. I suppose it's because I'm old though.
