1. I think we all understand the difference between music with a good bass guitar part and music for trade shows, right? Still, those trade show techniques are worth learning if you aspire to play at trade shows. Just don't do them in your band or they'll all think you're a twat.
2. Cheers WH. Who is the UK distributor at the moment? Can't seem to find the info on their website.
3.
Levy's leathers make a suede strap that excellent for this. May not cure severe imbalance but certainly helped with one recent bass I bought that had neck dive tendencies.
Does it not just pull your shirt off with the bass?
4.
There is a transcription of the part in two different places on this Forum and you can hear the track on Spotify. Do I have to do ALL of the work for you.......
My mum warned me about you jazz pushers.
5.
What is this foot ball of which you speak???? Nah, dont bother, its wasted on me mate....
Like the football analogy is any less useful than Bilbo using Branford Marsalis as an example!
6.
Anthony Jackson is the best know endorsement for this style of thinking. his fodera has no controls, just pickup straight to output jack.
I bet they still charged him 9 squillion dollars for it.
7. A mate of mine's got one of these, it really does sound great to my ears and I don't usually like Ampeg gear or 15" cabs. Very clean, articulate, everything I didn't expect from looking at it!
8. I use the pickup mix control and the position of my picking hand more than the tone knobs on my active bass, but I do sometimes wish there was more treble cut available on it when I've got new roundwounds on there. I definitely wouldn't want to wire straight to the output though.
9. I prefer unlined boards, I think lines ruin the look of a fretless.
10. Had another listen and he's ace.
11. Wow, nice. I don't get on with P necks either but what a looker.
12. Italy should be alright, EU country so no taxes to worry about.
13. It's a bit like my Meatwad but not as good.
14. I don't know how you find time for three. I suppose it's nice to be wanted though.
15.
moving to 24 frets does throw things out a bit but you soon get used to it.
The neck-thru Thumbs have got 26 frets. I don't really notice because I rarely get up there but I slid up for an A on the 19th fret the other day in practice and had a "bloody hell" moment when I got there. Missed it by a mile, there were just so many frets to choose from!
16. I did the last time, but that was to get some padding between the roundwound strings and the fretless pau ferro fingerboard, since the bass might end up laying face-down for long periods. But yeah normally I'd agree with the above wisdom, that string tension is probably better than none, unless you loosen the truss rod too. But if I received a bass in the post with the truss rod all slack I'd be a bit grumpy about it.
17. Nice to see Ernie McKone getting some recognition, he never gets a mention in this 'ere forum and he grooves HARD.
18. Our trumpet player is in the habit of filming songs in rehearsals when she doesn't have a part to play, and yeah I muck it up every couple of bars when she does. I've started making sure she's always got a part, so that's solved the problem.
19.
Just one thing, ignore arrogant stage managers & producers.
Strange. Loads of my friends are stage managers and I don't think I know s single arrogant one. Directors, on the other hand...
20.
no hint of drag.
This thread fails to deliver.
21. I do like to listen to albums as albums, regardless of storage format. I still think of music in terms of albums - good album, bad album, skip that one, etc. I suppose it's because I'm old though.
22. FWIW I think I paid about £50 for mine, used on eBay, before they released the newer XO one. I flogged it on here for £55 inc. postage about this time last year I think.
23. I really wish I had the cash for a bass at the moment, this thing is super cool. If I were you I'd keep it.
24. £50-60 depending on condition I'd guess. They've re-boxed it in a slightly smaller enclosure with true-bypass now, so the old ones are a little under-valued as a result.
