Just to demonstrate my enormous denseness when it comes to pedals, what does the envelope filter do? I could be up for that.. maybe if I know what it does!
It's probably the best-known bass effect - that quacky wah sound. Cheque's in the post for those jacks BTW feller, ta.

Digitech Bad Monkey. It's a tubescreamer clone (like most overdrives) works great on bass, and it's cheaper than a night out if you shop around online. Or you could pay hundreds for a rare BJFE Blueberry or a Dredgetone Angler or something, if you prefer. There are a lot of options for O/D.
As always, this is just a matter of personal taste. You might find their music dull, millions obviously don't. It baffles me when people think that because they don't like something it must be bad.
Well, I think given a choice of Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik or Californication to take to a desert island, most people would pick the former. And the rest would be on a desert island with a really boring record.

I'm glad you spotted that, I wasn't at all sure what we were supposed to be looking at. I thought it was something to do with the dodgy wallpapering around that radiator.
I was going to get/try this at some point http://cgi.ebay.com/PARALLEL-Dual-Effect-P...93%3A1|294%3A50
Yeah I emailed him a couple of days ago about that and the volume controls are passive - I need a bit of boost on them - but apart from that it looks perfect. I didn't ask if he'd be willing to build me one with available boost though, maybe he'd be up for it. Cheers. -
First off - instead of the Line 6 unit, maybe look at a rack multi-FX that you can control with the same foot controller. Send a couple of channels to the FX unit for switching patches, the rest to the computer/sampler. If either the FX unit or the sampler have a MIDI thru port you should be able to set that up. Sorry I don't have any recommendations for you - I've only ever used individual stomp boxes. Secondly, tell your band to give you a set list in good time or it's not going to work. There. Easy. Edit: To be honest though I'd be looking for a turntablist instead, which is what we're trying to do. The plan is to have someone on decks and FX, someone who's a mix of Terminator X and King Tubby.
Yup. Happens with every niche band who outgrows the niche. "Oh they sold out", yadda yadda yadda. Same with the Chilis and a billion others. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.
It's not because the Chilis are actually crap now, then? I don't know whether it's because they grew up or because they stopped taking all the drugs, but my god their music is dull now.

The last passive bass I had was a Jazz and the hum from the pickups drove me nuts so I stuck an EMG active set in it to make it go away. I heard all Jazz basses hum annoyingly - is that right? I would use a passive bass if it didn't do that, I don't have a problem with passive electronics in and of themselves, only when they don't work properly. In terms of "tone" I'm not sure I can notice any difference and I'm 100% positive the audience can't.

SOLD Boss LS-2 Line Selector SOLD
thisnameistaken replied to tayste_2000's topic in Effects For Sale
Ste, did you replace this with something else? I remember when you had The Big Board you were saying you were looking for something else to do the same job. I'm trying to swap out my LS-2 for something that can switch between A+B mix and full wet on one channel, just wondered if you'd found anything. -
I liked Dookie, nearly liked Nimrod, but you can't expect a band to still be good when they've had that much success. The stuff on Dookie sounds a lot like The Jam to me.
Yes, good point...how you do that unlined, is beyond me I need stabilizers!!!
It's like anything else, if you practice it enough it becomes second nature. I haven't done much fretless playing in the last 10 years or so, but in the early to mid-'90s I used unlined fretless basses for everything, and sang harmony, and was often quite drunk/otherwise incapacitated. So long as I could hear myself I was always fine. And before the lectures start I stopped playing shows under the influence after I over-did it one night, which wasn't my fault - it was my birthday and the bar staff and our tenor player conspired to spike my drinks and by the second set I couldn't even read my set list.

I use a little wheeled chair like this that I pulled out of a skip when I lived above an office supply shop.

For what songs? Most of their older stuff (first three albums) the bass is pretty prominent in the mix, you could probably pick them out by ear fairly easily. That's what I did in my teens, like everybody else.

So what do you drive to transport your bass gear around?
thisnameistaken replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
Just never really fancied it.
Same here. I only learned to drive last summer, I was never that bothered about learning and ended up doing it mostly to satisfy other people (work, rellies, girlfriend, bands). I still can't park. -
Would you actually be able to ellicit much from it though, seeming though it's essentially half of a standard bass scale
They sound pretty big - the E string is about a quarter of an inch thick. I tried one years ago in a shop but couldn't imagine how anyone could play it. The combination of fat strings and short neck makes intonation really tricky. And the strings just feel flat out weird.
The groove neck is thin and flat, like a less curved jazz neck. Great to play The bass is 2-band active, with treble & bass bosst & an active/passive switch.
Thanks for that. Couple more questions if you've got a mo: Is there any passive tone control with the actives off? Is the neck satin or gloss? What's the string spacing at the bridge? I never knew what the deal was with the pickup - why three coils? Sorry I have tried Googling but there's little to no info about these basses!

I borrow my girlfriend's one of these: Luckily all I've got to move is a bass, a 2U rack, a Schroeder 1212L and a pedal board. Our guitarist and drummer take a whole 5-piece drumset, stands, cymbals, guitar, Marshall head and 2x12 in a single Peugeot 106. But if they ever had to brake hard they'd both be decapitated. They should be safe though, the brakes on the 106 are completely ****ed. -
Can't seem to get to the bottom of why he plays like this...
Made you look, didn't it? What more motivation does one need.
