Warwick Thumb Bass Thru Neck 4 String...
thisnameistaken replied to teejfunkymonk's topic in Bass Guitars
EDIT: OMG!!! I've just had a look at that official price list and the Thumb 4 NT is now RRP'd at £3209!!!!! They must have started using pure platinum for the truss rod or something.
Don't get me wrong I love my Thumb but that is crazy money. Halve it and it would be more realistic. -

Warwick Thumb Bass Thru Neck 4 String...
thisnameistaken replied to teejfunkymonk's topic in Bass Guitars
Im after a new THRU neck dude! Does £1999 sound like a good price?
Bear in mind that used prices on Warwicks at the moment are really deflated. Must be a demand thing, I don't know, but I wouldn't buy a brand new one because you will lose a lot of that value if you later decide to sell it on. I bought my Thumb (neck-thru, 4-banger like the one you're after) for under £700 on eBay and that wasn't a flukey result. They tend to sell around that price on here too. -
sounds like a cause for celebration to me!
+1 Last ace cheap bass I found was in the early '90s, Yamaha RBX thing, passive, P+J, satin neck, maple board, standard stuff but it was bloody brilliant. I bought it new and eventually sold it back to the same shop I bought it from for more than I'd originally paid for it. If that's the one you like then buy it.

He should also reproduce with Kim Deal so we can find out how amazing their lovechild bassist would be. -
The FX loop is for losers who buy rack-mounted digital effects. And it's for the brilliant people who buy them, too. Just in case I upset any losers. I should stop coming here when I'm on the wine...

Comparison clips of my ol' Fenders
Stringbusters!
Ooh, el cheapio. Thanks v. much. Believe it or not in 20 years of playing I've never strung a bass with flats. I'm quite excited. -
All these pedals & multi-effects are all fine & good for a bit of a mess-around at home, but there's no substitute for a well set-up, good sounding bass through a good amplifier or preamp.
They don't have to be a substitute. You can have a good sounding bass, a good amplifier and also effects - that's allowed. One of the bands I'm doing at the moment I take a bass, amp and a pedal tuner because that's all it requires. The other band I also take a pretty large pedal board, because I need it. The guys who run that band don't listen to a lot of music with bass guitar in it, so I need to do more than just sound like a bass guitar. You might not need effects but that doesn't mean nobody else does.

They're not that rare - I've seen two up for sale at the same time on eBay before, see one advertised either here or there once a month or so. And they usually go for £175 top dollar unless they're in "collector" condition with a mint original box and so on. IIRC I paid £170 for mine with the expression pedal thrown in.
ah.. Living Colour are amazing. especially taken in by the playing on the 'Vivid' album
That would be Muzz Skillings. Doug Wimbish replaced him shortly after they began to sink back into obscurity.
La Bella Deep Talkin' FL760s. Anyone who says flats are muddy and indistinct... is wrong.
Cheers. I can only find them at Thomann, where do you get yours? -
I just watched Jonathan Ross on demand while scoffing me tea and they sounded like they were really enjoying themselves. I thought it would be a bit cringe-worthy but I was impressed.

That ebony-boarded fretless sounds beautiful. Really impressed. Actually what brand/gauge flats have you got on there? Might try a set on my Stingray. -
He used to play Wals in the '80s. He was rocking one at Live Aid.

Things that musicians do that are a waste of time!
In relation to Theory... I've tried it, I simply cant focus long enough on it to get something useful from it. Bores the crap out of me. What I cant figure out is... why do you put yourself through it? Unless you're aiming to make a living as a bassplayer, I dont see the point.
If you don't learn anything about music you're likely to get stuck playing the same stuff for your entire life. Theory staves off boredom. -
Singing and Playing..Do you find this hard/easy???
thisnameistaken replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
I think I might be the same-I'm far happier if somebody says something complimentary about my singing than my playing-not that either happens very often!
TBH nobody really hears my singing - I'm always backing somebody else or singing as part of a harmony. My voice doesn't sound all that pleasant on its own and I wouldn't expect any compliments if anyone heard it! -
Depends on whether you could be practicing instead. If you are posting with a bass and amp next to you, I agree. But miost of us are not. If I was at home, I wouldn't be typing this
Hmm. Excuse me while I waste another ten minutes reflecting on my own procrastination... I'm supposed to be working, to be fair. I'd feel more guilty if I picked up a bass. -
