1.
the power rating on valve amps is the clean power i.e before the wave form starts to distort, they will continue to amplify beyond this point putting out considerably more distorted watts, solid state does the same but sounds terrible if you do it.
Really? So a 100W solid state amp can actually produce around 200W of power?
 2.
have you ever cranked a 300watt valve amp? they put out 300 CLEAN watts about half way and will go up to around 600 DISTORTED watts fully cranked.
Eh? I gigged an SVT Classic for a while and - while I didn't deliberately overdrive it - I didn't think it was that loud. I suppose you're talking about a higher perceived volume due to all the harmonics from the distortion? Just stick a distortion pedal before your solid-state amp. Same result.
 3. Get the same power you'd get with a solid-state head. With the same speakers the output ought to be the same, unless something is broken somewhere. Personally I'd be after 300W if I was intending to gig it.
 4.
I would be interested if you are willing to ship to the US.
Thanks for confirming that our currency is now toilet paper.
 5. Sounds samples? Through a band-pass filter would it do a decent "Peaches"?
 6. I have to say I was always jealous of people who could afford SWR gear when I was a nipper. They made cool stuff.
 7.
I prefer to think of it as everybody in the room is listening to you, so it matters what it sounds like. Look, I'm a slapheaded old fart and I don't play in even remotely trendy bands playing even slightly fashionable music, so looking cool honestly doesn't matter a rat's arse to me. You're obviously younger than me and so it's completely different for you. 25 years ago I would have agreed wholeheartedly!
I'm not that young, I'll be 35 this summer, but I'm the oldest person in both of my bands so I have to make some sort of effort. My hair's going too so the bass is having to hold up its end of the cool-looking a lot more than it used to!
 8. If you liked the Yamaha BB then try some more, they're cracking basses for the money.
 9.
Bee in my bonnet? Nah, not at all, I just find it utterly hilarious that anyone could place so much importance on how 'cool' an instrument is/isn't, like it's a pair of trainers or something.
Well, you have to wear it, don't you? And when you wear it everybody in the room is staring at you, so of course it matters what it looks like. I am quite picky about trainers too.
 10.
OMG, u went to a school where someone actually owned a Status bass?!!! Ewwwwwwwwww...u r so uncool.
I appreciate that because I think Status basses look dated and coffee table basses look vulgar I'm not going to fit in with the elite anoraks on a bass guitar forum, but that doesn't make me any less right.
 11.
In fashion, out of fashion, 'naff' or not ('naff', how quaint, I haven't heard anyone use that word in years... it must be terribly unfashionable by now) -- doesn't matter in the end really, 'cos they play beautifully and sound terrific. But then again, what would I know? I'm not one of the, errm what was it? ah yes, one of the "Cool People"
You've got a proper bee in your bonnet over that haven't you? Cheer up, Rich. I take it you've got one of those uber-naff basses so I've upset you again? Sorry. Again. Ish.
 12. Status basses used to be fashionable? I remember a kid at my school got a Status Empathy when they came out, that must've been 1989-90-ish, and they were even naff then.
 13. You shouldn't really be resting your wrist on the edge of the bass anyway. The larger the angle your wrist is bent at, the higher the risk of inflammation and injury, putting the kibosh on your playing altogether. Try tilting your neck up a bit so your picking forearm is straighter. This should give you an easier angle on your fretting wrist too. And maybe wear a sweatband on your picking wrist to reduce rubbing in the mean time.
 14. That's the first thing I learned when I decided to teach myself to read. I think it took me about two months...
 15.
reminds me of the stuff that used to get played over Ceefax at 3.00am.
That sort of thing's popular amongst people with ponytails, button-up shirts and khaki shorts in the USA.
 16.
despite being the more expensive bass when sold new, Sabres typically go fir 25% less than their Stingray equivalent.
Really? I thought they'd be more desirable. You don't see them very often, whereas Stingrays are ten a penny.
 17.
There were Nu-metal bands in 1989?
If there were, perhaps the genre needs a new name?

A lot of metal genres need new names. It's funny that being "Progressive" now means recreating music from the '70s.
 18. The Pickle Pie 'B' is a really good bass-voiced muff-a-like if you can find one. I wouldn't recommend ordering new, partly because of the weak pound but partly because it seems Matt's not all that motivated to build pedals very quickly. I was waiting a long time.
 19. If this means less metal guitar solos are in our future then I fully support the laziness of today's kids.
 20. I've been practicing playing and singing at the same time since I drew the short straw and got nominated for harmony vox. I've always sung in bands before but it's been years since my last proper band, so it's something I need to re-learn. I've started off slowly with some Toots & The Maytals numbers, some Police, and some Smiths.
 21. Bargain. Really nice tone from these. If it was fretless I'd probably have it myself.
 22.
b***s. [reason for edit: naughty word]
Couple of issues with this: 1) Not enough asterisks were inserted, giving the impression that the word "balls" is unacceptable. Is it? 2) Whoever got offended enough to do the edit neglected to edit the same word quoted by the guy immediately after me.
 23. Really nice bass. If it was unlined I'd be out mugging grannies for the money right now.
 24.
Was it you who put the youtube video up with the Godin in? If so that sounded smooooooth!
The embarrasing one where I'm a scrubby student and I look homeless? Yeah that was me. IIRC it just went direct into the desk.
 25. It's probably worth a grand Zender or no Zender, an old Streamer like that. Surprised to see the reserve is set higher than that though.
