Like some others, I'd never say "never", but I'm very attached to my '91 Thumb. Although I would consider selling it if I found a '91 or earlier Thumb 5... I think I'd wanted one since 1991, so it's quite fitting that I got one from that year. And it was mostly from listening to Fishbone, and then seeing how gorgeous they looked in the flesh in Carslbro Sound in Leeds when I was 16. This one is as good a Thumb as I've ever played, it's got the sound, the looks, the lot. Every time I pick it up I smile.

You look just like my mate Nick, it was really disconcerting. If you'd been fall-down drunk it would've been uncanny!

You could try this guy. I've got a single-loop bypass he made, it sounds fantastic!
Is the unit generally capable of a wider variety of sounds than the sort of envelope/fuzz type sounds in this clip? Can it do moog and taurus sounds too?
Wow, that sounds awful! I'll knock up some sample clips later if I have time, but I think the girlfriend is going to make me do housework today. Edit: Sorry, to answer your question: No it's nowhere near as sophisticated as a Taurus - it's basically pick a waveform, add the filter.

What's the last bassline you learned?

Flight of the Conchords - Mutha'Uckers Just tried it tonight and it sounds perfect with my G5. It could be a G5 on the record. -
My bad - I assumed cos this appeared on the Synkronized album he hadn't played on it - but this was recorded before the other tracks. and I swear this post was about deeper underground earlier
I've never heard any of the albums after Zender left. Heard the singles obviously but nothing else. How was it? I always figured Toby Smith was the important one, and when he left it would go tits up.
Except Zender didn't play on this tune
Really? It sounds like him.

To me it sounds like a very subtle sweep on a filter (even more subtle than he used on Blow Your Mind) and 8,000 metric arseloads of compression. Oh and a Warwick. And Stuart Zender. Those two are pretty important to get right.
Sounds like some enterprising individual needs to set up a consolidation site for these things. Compare the best prices for bass players, from all these different suppliers, in one place, that kind of thing.
I'm currently working on a comparison site comparison site. "Do you have time to compare comparison sites? Let us do it for you," etc.
Is it just me or does Lars Ulrich come across as a bit of a knob!
aka Large Oilrig. He looks a lot like Danny DeVito in that video. But fatter. -
I've tried them all and just happened to get lucky with bandmix - found a singer who lives literally around the corner from me and shares the same tastes. We still haven't found a drummer though.
We'd also be rid of all Punk and most Metallica!!
This just gets better! It'd only be their newer records we'd be without. I nearly wrote "miss" there, but "be without" is more appropriate. -
Sour grapes? Not a bit of it. My opinion of the Stones doesn't stem from envy at all... it stems from the fact that I think they and their music are utter crap.
TBH I think after bands make a successful record they should be given 10 years (15 max) before their music-making privileges are revoked forever. We'd be rid of U2 and Elton John and all sorts of tripe with a simple rule like that. -
I've never heard that song before, but is it just me or is his timing all over the shop?
Sounds like that to me too, on the intro, I didn't listen beyond that. I didn't know Eric Avery tried out for Metallica. That's certainly... coloured my opinion of him somewhat. -
I think a bump every 24 hours - or whenever relevant new info is added - is reasonable. For a time anyway, a week or so. If it's obvious something isn't going to shift it's annoying to see it getting regularly bumped 2 or 3 weeks later with no change in the seller's offer.
I'd love it but can't afford it! Is it a G5 on the bassline of Twisted (Everyday Hurts) by Skunk Anansie?
I don't know. It certainly could be. I mean yes! Yes, it's a G5, that. It might be this one. I bought it off that bloke who used to play for Skunk Anansie. Wossisname. Y'know, with the eyes.
