1. If you've still got it next week I'll have it. I've got the bigger reissue one and really need to save that extra few mm on my board that I'd get from the nano!
2. I would normally be tempted but I'm supposed to be waiting on a new filter. Oh hell I'm still tempted. I am such a sucker.
3. Is it the XO box or the older one?
4. Ah right. That muff case looks in surprisingly good nick. I've seen much more battered-looking ones go for more than £80 on the 'bay.
5. You have an earlier post saying "Muff gone", and now you're posting muff pics? Might be an idea to clarify how many muffs are being discussed here and which ones are available.
6. Oh I don't have credit cards. And if I did, I wouldn't have any credit available on them.
7. I'd have these if it wasn't for all the tardy paying customers I'm lumbered with this month. Cash has stopped flowing entirely.
8. I was looking for ages for those super-short connectors and I haven't found anywhere in the UK that sells them. You can only get the offset ones, or the inch long sleeve ones. Please do post if you find a European trader flogging them.
9. I picked up tunes by ear off records like everybody else. I did try to take lessons but couldn't find anyone willing to teach me. I had also intended to study music at 6th form college but my dad wasn't going to let that happen. I taught myself to read bass clef eventually after lots of hours spent alone with books of cello music, but I couldn't sightread now - it was a skill I thought I'd need but I never did, so it's all but forgotten. Wish my harmony knowledge was better - that's what I tried to find a teacher for. I'm going to make an effort to improve that this year. Maybe start attending jazz jam nights to get some practice in once I get beyond the "horribly embarrasing" stage.
10. Keep it. Don't you have any kids you could sell? Nieces or nephews?
11. Didn't you just finish this last week? Not quite what you wanted then?
12. Nice chap, looks after his basses better than I do! -- Kev
13. Hehe. He's advertising his as an "Excellent bass" while mine's got chapter and verse about why they're rubbish.
14. Sorely tempted but I'm supposed to be waiting for their new synth pedal. MUST RESIST!!!
15.
There is some really scary stuff in there. How about I donate 30p to have one of th Geri ones burned? Imagine raising enough cash to burn them all
I'd like to pledge £1.20.
16. I'm sure the sentence was for "eternity", so you'd better put those back in musical purgatory where you found them.
17. Here you go.
18. I have to say I never understood what the P-bass Lyte was for, but years ago I had a few students who played them. They seem to be a popular beginner bass, and when thinking of them in those terms they seem to be good competition for the Yamaha RBX range.
19.
My old Yamaha BB was the same but that was lined, and my Columbus jazz is the same. it confuses me sometimes, i guess it depends what you're used to and what you use as a guide. Didn't know stingrays were different.
I've had a few unlined fretlesses (a Godin thinline acoustic, a Warwick Corvette 6, a Fender USA Jazz and my first one was a cheap Tanglewood P-bass copy) and all of them had fret markers at the fret position. I think lined fretlesses don't do it, but unlined fretlesses (in my experience) always do.
I forgot to mention the rosewood nuts! I've got one on a Columbus EB-3 copy and it's lasted 30 odd years but they do look a bit fragile.... Certainly an honest listing. I've had a punt as promised and will keep an eye. Hope you get what you want.
Yeah, I just don't like the idea of ripping off skint musicians. I remember pre-internet it wasn't possible to do that without getting a reputation as a shyster, so everybody pretty much trusted everybody else. Maybe today it's not always as clear-cut but it is for me. If you win it you win it, but don't expect me to explain it to your better half! Honestly I don't want to make any money out of this, I'm just trying to recoup what I can without shitting on anyone.
20. I've picked it up a couple of times again tonight, it could be worse. The dot markers are gobsmackingly stupid, and if it wasn't for them I think I could probably get used to it. Structurally it's fine, if the neck is a bit chunky. In terms of attention to detail though I'd like to meet whoever put this through QC and introduce him to the blunt end of my Warwick. eBay listing is here. It goes on a bit but I don't want anyone to get any nasty surprises.
21. OK well I've had time to calm down, think I'm going to be a bit more rational about the eBay listing. It's currently 7 hefty paragraphs of pretty nasty language but I think I've got it out of my system now! I think 5 months of fury at these bastards has got the better of me.
22. Oh snap - I haven't got a P-bass!
23. Yes I am putting it on eBay, probably later today. Is it really that bad? I suppose it's rather subjective. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh because I had such a bad experience with the seller, and I'd already decided I didn't want it before it arrived. But then all the things I've said about it in here are true - it's not a well made bass by any stretch of the imagination. It would probably play alright if it was set up properly, if you liked the shape of the neck (I don't). The B string is the funny bit - it actually feels good and I usually hate low B strings. The bass seems to be sound in terms of the neck joint and so on, but nothing else is right. Every time I look at it I see something else that looks really careless and rushed. They don't affect the way it plays but they just confound me totally. I intend to be perfectly honest about it in the listing anyway, see if anyone wants it. Like you said, maybe someone's after a dirt-cheap 6, or maybe someone wants to scavenge it for parts, who knows. The saddles are quite cool and the tuners look like the ones on my old Godin, so maybe someone will want them.
24. The raffle idea is pretty funny, but I don't think you'd find 25 people here who'd want it. I suppose it is a fiver... Nah, still don't think you'd find 25 people, and they'd all have to trust me to be fair about randomly picking a winner - I don't really know any of you lot yet. Good idea though.
25. Well I'm going to stick it on eBay and list it honestly, see what it goes for. God only knows I don't want it. If nothing else I'll have fun writing the listing.
