1. OK it just turned up in the post... Well, a bass turned up, but it's the one with humbuckers, not soapbars - after all that they sent me the wrong ****ing one! First impressions: Not great. Seems there wasn't a single corner left un-cut in the making of this bass. Maybe it would set up OK but frankly I can't be bothered. The finish on the body has a few spotty imperfections and there are some pinhead-sized dings around the neck joint, looks like some of the drilling might've been done after the finish went on judging by the raw look of the jack socket. There's no finish on the back of the neck either - nothing at all. Feels like playing a fencepost. I'm not helping to sell this thing am I? On the positive side, the B string's actually not bad. That's all I've managed to find on the positive side. Well, structurally it's fine, and it balances alright on a strap too. Ah screw it none of you were going to buy it anyway.
2. Yeah I literally had to send the rozzers round to get the bass out of them but it's on its way. Thanks for the shipping info. In all honesty I only bought this bass because a friend of mine bought a cheap fretless 5, and I wanted to get a 6 for less money than he paid for his 5. That friend has asked "Have you got your bass yet?" almost every day for the last five months, so you could say the plan backfired a bit!
3. ***NO LONGER FOR SALE DUE TO SUCKING BEYOND BELIEF*** Bass for sale that I haven't actually seen yet. Bought from a twattish German seller on eBay last year. After five months, two dozen emails, complaints to eBay and PayPal and a brief investigation by the Polizei in Hannover, it's finally on its way to me. In the meantime I've bought a fretless Stingray from a fellow Basschatter, so I don't want or need this bass. Currently it is in BRAND NEW CONDITION!, but I will probably open it when it arrives out of curiosity. It's due to arrive on Friday according to the UPS tracking gizmo, looking for offers in the region of £100 from anyone who can collect it from me here in sunny York. I could ship it but I don't know what the costs would be (according to UPS it weighs 8.9kgs packed). If nobody's interested I'll stick it back on eBay and thoroughly enjoy writing lots of nasty remarks about the original seller into my item description. Here's some info straight from the eBay description. This bass has some fantastic features that you will not find ANYWHERE ELSE: "The H&S Sequoia II-6-FRL is a fretless bass with great power of self-assertion." Does your bass have great power of self-assertion? Didn't think so. "For the Sequoia II-6-FRL we use solid bassood for its body connected with Maple for the neck this combination promises its endless sustain." Two key features to note here: Endless sustain is promised - not a figuratively-speaking endless sustain but literally sustain that they promise does not end! Also the body is made from "bassood", which sounds pretty exotic. I saw another bass they made out of "Basswod" which also sounded interesting. I was waiting for them to make one from "Asswood" but sadly that never happened. "The form of the body is ergonomically and because of the balance body / neck you get this convenient Playability without top-heaviness." This bass is so good that nobody even gives a toss about basic grammar any more. It's passive, has two volume and two tone pots, 24-fret neck, rosewood board, 34" scale, weighs 4.9kgs, and as far as I know it looks like this:
4. I definitely don't try to do "everything" - I've no intention of being one of those anorak virtuosos at all - but I do still strive to improve at what I do do. I think once you become complacent about what you're playing then it's probably time to pack it in.
5.
lol, thanks for the offer. I think I want to try it out first before I buy. That's one thing I've learnt in the past!
FWIW if you look on eBay you'll find used LMB-3s usually sell for about £40, so if you didn't want it you wouldn't lose more than a few quid when you sell it on. It's actually a pretty good pedal BTW. Doesn't do that "fattening" thing that compressors are known for but it does keep your peaks under control without trashing your sound. I've got one on my board to rein in any crazy stunts some of my other pedals might try to pull.
6.
i'm hoping to change my squier for something a bit better as my skills are progressing and i would like a bass to reflect this, but i don't know what to get and the basses i've seen i don't know if they're good or not, i should also point out that i don't have a lot of money which is why i'm having to sell my squier,
My advice would be: Keep your Squier. If you like your Squier (you appear to) and you don't know if other basses are good or not, then why switch? You said you don't have a lot of money, and you'll probably make a net loss trading your current bass for a different one, and potentially end up with one that you don't like as much as the one you just sold. Doesn't seem to make much sense to me! Hang on to it for the time being, and go out and play every other bass that catches your eye and is affordable. Also play a few you can't afford, just to see if there's anything magically special about them that you think justifies their value. If nothing else it will give you some perspective on the cheaper instruments you're considering. When you find something that you definitely feel is a worthwhile step up from your Squier, that's the time to sell it.
7.
+1000 - this is still one of the most incredible funk-rock anthems ever - Norwood's playing on this tune is immense - it's of my fave songs from the 90s - turn you speakers up and check this:
I don't think TheirTube likes it being embedded. Rocking tune though. It's hard to tell on a lot of other stuff whether Norwood's playing fretless or not - he's got such a honking bass tone. Of course I didn't buy my Thumb because I saw Norwood playing one. That would be sa-ha-had.
8.
+1 for the song and bassline, but I think it was Bill Laswell who played it. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22661 Alan Dias played some great lines with PIL too.
Ooh, I had no idea. It's a sweet sound either way.

10. That's a really good price for a top pedal. I'd take it myself if I didn't already have one. *bump*!
11.
Norwood Fisher of Fishbone plays fretless in a few songs but the only one I can recall off the top of my head is 'They All Have Abandoned Their Hopes' from the album Give a Monkey a Brain and He'll Swear He's the Centre of the Universe.
Sunless Saturday (Reality of My Surroundings) I really like the sound Allan Dias got on PIL's "Rise". Great tune.

13. Wake me up when he makes the fingerboard rise up to the meet the frets and not the other way around.
14. There is some discussion of bypassing it at the switch here, although the instructions are not idiot-proof-looking enough for me to have tried it myself yet. I'd rather do this than bypass it with a looper pedal (which is what I'm doing now) because of the reasons you mentioned - I have giant EHX pedal footprints eating all of my board, and babysitting them with loopers just makes things worse. As for the low output level - are you sure you've got the preamp trimpot tweaked correctly? It's a pain to adjust it but if you get it just-so I find the levels are alright if you have at least one slider maxed.
15.
I contacted them a couple of times to see if they would sell me just a neck, which if they were a custom manufacturer they ought to have no problem with. No response. Read into that what you will.
I've emailed them numerous times asking where the **** my bass is - no response. I think the employee who knew how to use a computer must've gone back to college. FTR I ordered a fretless 6 for £79, purely because a friend of mine found a fretless 5 for £89 and I wanted to get 1 more string for less money than he paid. It wasn't about quality at all, it was purely a willy-waving exercise. Every time he calls me now the first thing he says is "Have you got your bass yet?". I hung up on him yesterday when he did it.
16. Try dropping out for a few bars, then coming back in. That's the easiest way to help people appreciate what the bass does. Plus you get time for a suck on your lemonade.
17. Ah yeah. No worries. I've got to visit someone who knows what he's doing to get some work done on another bass anyway so I'll bring this one along with me. Thanks again.
18.
Go on mate, treat ya self! BTW will look at sensible cash offers.
Just wanted to say thanks, this thing's really nice, and amazing condition for its age. Sorry I couldn't stay for tea & biscuits. Sounds like something's not earthed BTW - bit of a buzz going on - I don't suppose you know what/where? I don't mind sorting it out, just wondered if you were aware of it and could point me in the right direction.
19.
It must be one of the most portable full length scale bass ever!
If you can't find a case for it: Shorten the strap as far as it'll go, put it on one shoulder with the bass neck pointing down, then put on your overcoat. You're ready to go to the show. Maybe not so clever these days, especially if you look a bit Brazilian, but it worked for me when I had one.
20. The best cheap bass I ever bought was a Hohner B2A - the cheesy Steinberger clone thing. Attracted smug smirks and chuckles from onlookers until it was plugged in, and then they found out it are serious bass.
21. Is this the same one that's on eBay? I think £400 is a good price but I personally don't like the ash bodies. Shame because I like Warwicks, I'm looking for an unlined fretless and I'm just down the road from you in York. Hope you find a buyer soon.
22. Not often thought of as a bassist, but: Mark Brydon (Moloko) is a really tasteful player.
23. My current main bass - a '91 Warwick Thumb. I did have a US Fender Jazz fretless that I was very fond of in the '90s but it got gigged to death. I'm jealous of the Wal owners in here. I've always wanted one but I don't think I could spend that much money on a bass without feeling hugely guilty about it.
24. Maybe we should organise a coach trip to Hannover. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to find 40-ish people they've ripped off, turn up at their workshop and see if they still don't want to talk.
25. I won one of their auctions for a fretless 6 back on the 1st of December last year. Paid immediately, still no sign of the bass and they stopped responding to my emails on February 25th. I'm considering getting the police involved - it wasn't a lot of money but it's the principle. If it's been less than 45 days since you paid, I would dispute the payment at PayPal. BTW: They're currently trading as hsguitars-spain. I'm guessing their hsguitars-eng account was suspended by eBay so I reported their -spain account this morning.
