1.
quite a short German with black hair ...
Unfortunate turn of phrase.
2. Getting a seam re-glued is about the cheapest repair you'll ever pay for, so don't worry about it too much.
3. If the bridge is properly upright thank that shouldn't happen. Make sure the feet are still seated properly after changing a string, getting the bass out of a gig bag, or even tuning up if you're a long way out of tune.
4. I guess some people really struggle to find things to do with their evenings. If there's nothing on the telly, why not just turn it off?
5. Looks a bit too feminine for me, sorry.
6. I'd agree it's the DIY ethic that identifies punk for me. I thought the rave scene in the late '80s and early '90s was very punk actually.
7. They would have got nowhere (fast!) without Morrissey and his idiosyncratic approach to pop music. The music was strong but the vocals were key. A lot of it is very tongue in cheek and I think too many listeners took him too seriously.
8.
Ive never really got Cello, seems like a violin and a double bass decided to mate and that was a weird result.
It's got a beautiful sound. When a good one is played well it's beautiful. Also cellists are smoking hot.
9. They're nice people who run MOR but they never have any nice basses in. They get the odd part-exer in or something they're selling on commission but it's rare.
10.
I kinda like that, but at that tempo it loses that cool groovin Glen Cornick bass line.
Cud's bassist (William Potter, really nice guy actually) I'm sure would not mind me saying that he would not have had a chance in hell of playing that fancy bass part.
11. I was always a bit disappointed with people who didn't like The Smiths.
12. Nah there's nothing of interest in terms of bass gear here in York. Is Music Ground in Leeds still open? Either way don't go there, their prices are ridiculous and half the gear is stolen.
13.
Why would you not go to someone with specifications of exactly what you want for the same money and get a much nicer bass?
I don't think most people know exactly what they want, or no luthier can deliver it, judging by the number of bespoke basses that go up for sale used. I think it's a lot more sensible to go play a load of basses and pick one -at least you know what you're getting.
14. So it's not a Cud song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WD8ASzGVs3g
15. I call it 'Proud Owner Syndrome' (appropriately abbreviates to 'POS') wherein a consumer, having parted with a lot of money, is satisfied beyond all logic that what they have bought is much better than anything else they could have bought.
16. I sometimes go to their website when I've seen something on another website but I'd like to pay a lot more for it.
17.
It's a good song, not doing it for me yet though. Liking Dr Robert.
I think that's the track I like the least. It's Lennon being Lennon. Nondescript music and transparent lyrics masquerading as something clever. Of the Lennon tunes on Revolver the one I like the most is And Your Bird Can Sing, but I think it's for the vocal harmonies and the tidy little two-guitar riff on the intro and the bridge (apparently tracked by McCartney).
18.
She Said She Said is my favourite so far, Eleanor Rigby is very nice, heard that before of course. I'm surprised how decent Harrison is on sitar, he does a pretty good job. McCartney plays nice lines. I've seen him live in the '80s and I was impressed by his solo stuff. So far only one song has moved me on this, She Said She Said, it's got nice harmony and melody that resonates with me.
For me, Tomorrow Never Knows and For No One are my favourite ones on Revolver. Actually I think For No One is my favourite Beatles tune.
19. I think the Sandbergs are more interesting. Sadowsky and Lakland make really slick basses but they are dull.
20. Revolver is my favourite. It's got some of the cleverest pop tunes McCartney wrote, and some of the more experimental stuff, and the odd rocker, and a couple of sh*t Lennon tunes unfortunately but there you go, he was a Beatle so we just have to grin and bear it.
'The Best of the Beatles' is my favourite.
Jackanackanory!
21. The Ibanez might feel more comfortable just because it's familiar. I've never had an Ibanez bass and to me their necks feel weird and too thin. In six months you might be perfectly happy with the Yamaha neck.
22. If you're thinking about multi-tracking an instrument, try all the other ones first before you resort to a bass, because the bass is the last instrument that is likely to work well.
23. I've got a set of these on my laminate bass and I'd agree with Clarky they have a great slap click - the best I've heard from a synthetic string - but played pizz they don't really suit a boomy bass.
