Pianists, singers (I do sing harmony all the time but my voice isn't good enough to sing alone), and... trombonists!
That's very understanding of you, but the fact that 12 days after the purchase you had corrrspondence but no bass is a worry. Of course I don't know the content of the mesage, but presuming you paid by paypal for a sale you might only have 30 days in which to open a dispute. I'd bear that in mind. I hope you get sorted.
This is really important. If you haven't already you should contact the seller with this information and inform him that if you don't have your goods within x days you will be disputing the payment. And definitely *do* open the dispute before the 30 days if you haven't received the goods, don't be put off by anything the seller has to say. If the goods subsequently arrive then you can resolve the dispute but if you wait you are going to have a real headache getting your money back. Good luck with it and sorry to hear you've had a bad experience buying on here.

My basses are in the dining room so that's where they usually get played but they sound best in the sitting room which is almost square and has a massive bay window. If I'm home alone I'll lug one through there to practise. There's also a large mirror in there so I can see if my posture is awful - after four months of physio on a crap shoulder I'm really careful about that now.

So what's a high c string good for anyway?
thisnameistaken replied to nobodysprefect's topic in General Discussion
I had a 6 myself for a few years so I appreciate they can sound good, but it never did become a popular instrument - I still only ever see them used in pretentious metal bands (the sort who come up with a convoluted genre classification for their music before they actually come up with any songs). And like it or not most bands will roll their eyes at you if you turn up with one. -
Jason Newstead is back!
The lyrics aren't going to win any awards, that's for sure
Not even for shittest lyrics in metal, there's too much competition. -
Punters don't care. Landlords don't care. Your own bandmates don't care.
Or they're being polite. Or they're scared of you. To be fair though most bass players seem to have horrific taste, so in comparison to most you could be wearing a trans-turquoise quilted maple gold hardware 14-string bass and still only look like an average berk.

His lyrics are beautiful. -
If you've got room for a DB you should get one. I've got room for one but I managed to fit two in.

Nice. I bet that Schroeder will go plenty loud too.
Im planning of getting an f-deck preamp possible, anyone used one?
Not used one but I think slobluesine is selling one at the moment if you want one. The series 2 model.

Getting further away is always good. Amps that are designed specifically for acoustic instruments often have a phase-reverse switch which can sometimes help you avoid feedback. They also often feature notch filtering so if you've got a narrow band that is causing problems you can pull it out. Amps designed for acoustics are probably the best solution for you but they can be expensive (look up Acoustic Image!). If you want something cheaper but still light then go for a Class D head with a fairly flat sound (maybe a Genz Benz Shuttle) and a 1x10 or 1x12 neo cabinet, and you can add feedback-dodging tricks by getting a specialist preamp like the Fishman Platinum Pro Bass.

The 10 Best Bassplayers On You Tube
Apologies if this is a daft question - Is that the guy from Barcelona??? Seen him/someone like him playing in the street many times.. Funky as it gets
Yes that's him. I've bumped into him a few times too he's a great player. I don't normally like solo bass at all but he's got taste. -
They don't turn up very often on the used market. Looking on eBay there was an LX 4 recently which reached £620 but didn't sell because it was below the buyer's reserve. Also an LX 5 listed at £799 which didn't sell. I think the problem with them is exactly what you're experiencing - they're an obscure model in the middle of Warwick's range and nobody really knows what they're worth. And when you can get an early '90s Streamer Stage 1 5-string for a grand on the used market the value of these cheaper models falls off quite sharply. If I were you I wouldn't do that trade, and I much prefer Warwicks over Stingrays. I just don't think it looks like a fair trade.

Take the neck off the Jazz and put it on a light Precision body?

Can you get blackcurrant blancmange? -
Have you contacted Warwick about it? I had one of the first Corvette Proline 6s and the neck went bad on that. My luthier called their UK distributor who contacted Warwick who asked to see the neck so we sent them the bass. They declared that it was a badly designed neck and replaced it for me free of charge. Took about a month to turn it around. It might be worth contacting them to see if they want to put it right for you before you start looking at spending a ton of money on a replacement.
Victor Wooten is the world's finest bass player. Listen past his YouTube vids.
I just can't listen to the music he makes. There are players with a fraction of his technique and knowledge who have made better music. I don't care what he can do on the bass I have to rate him on what he chooses to do, and on the occasions that he's not obscuring actual notes with string noise he's playing schmaltzy-sounding rubbish. Robert Sledge is a way better bass player. -
I never noticed any sound improvement by switching to George Ls but they certainly make wiring up / rewiring a pedalboard a lot less of a hassle. For that reason alone I'd say they were worth it. People argue that solderless cables are going to let you down sooner or later, but I've never had one crap out on me in 3 years of use. If you make up the cables correctly and don't abuse them then they will work. Do it badly or abuse them and they won't - just like a soldered cable.

My laminate bass is very boomy
thisnameistaken replied to thisnameistaken's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I appreciate the advice but my main bass is strung with steels and has a pretty good modern sound, on this laminate I'm going for a more rootsy sound (hence the silver slaps), it's not so much that I want to add top end, more that I'd like a more balanced sound. So I'm not sure that a very bright set of strings would suit. I do like the sound of the silver slaps although I've thought about trying super silvers for the extra tension. -

I've just put the silver slaps back on and actually the bass is a bit quieter and also a bit less bassy. I will still try getting a man to move the soundpost though, see what that achieves. -
I thought psychos didn't reveal their true nature until after a load of rehearsals and halfway through the first gig? Or is that just our last singer......?
Yeah that can happen. I tend to steer well clear of anyone who looks even remotely fragile these days. Too much hassle trying to sack them later when they've blown off rehearsals because they were tired or gigs because it was snowing.

Would a higher tension string really make the bass less woofy? It had evah mediums on it when I got it, which were quite hard work to play, and it was still very bassy. To the previous poster who suggested lower tension strings - I've tried silver slaps on it, and am planning to put them back on for the old-school sound they've got, but I don't think they made the bass sound any less bassy. -
One or both of them will turn out to be total psychos so your decision will be pretty straightforward once you've met them.
