1. TBH I wedge a slice or two of mouse mat under the strings and it does the same job for approx. £2, not found a compelling reason to spend £85 for a lever and a spring.

3.
I had three double basses in the back of a mondeo estate with room to spare
I've seen two double basses and a ukulele in the back of a Pug 306.
4.
That is righteous tone.
And it took no mojo-inflated vintage gear to do it. OK, so one heavily mojoed bassist.
5. Very kind of you but I'm based in York, and whenever I do get down to London I rarely have any free time. I really need more lessons, must get back on with that.
6.
every time I've been into Gear4music the double basses on show have been unplayable,
I live just down the street from them so I went in after they listed that Archer on eBay, and the Archer they currently have on the showroom floor has a string missing...
7. Why don't any of these luthiers publish prices on their websites?
8. FWIW my drummer just asked me if I wanted to go to a jazz jam night with him, I said I wasn't good enough at playing jazz, so he said he's going to get a pianist and give me some regular trio practice. Bless him.
9.
That's a fairly good point actually. It's a good opportunity for portfolio work I suppose! I might put an ad up at the local colleges!
When you're done could you spend a week recording bass parts for me? I can't pay you but you can use the recordings to get more work.
10. Bilbo you know stuff about jazz, right? I occasionally come across these little nuggets of info about what scale is useful for a given type of chord, or what type of chord can be substituted for another type of chord, and I wonder: Do jazz players really remember all that stuff and recall and apply that knowledge as the chords go by? Because I sometimes struggle to even find the intervals of the next chord reliably if they're going by too fast, so I think the chances of me remembering all these bonus ideas are pretty slim.
11.
I could resolder a broken connection, but that's about it. No idea what a TB looper is.
To make the old BMS true bypass is a pretty simple job - just re-wiring a couple of existing wires to the stomp switch. I did it to my last one myself and my soldering iron looks Victorian.
12.
What is the weight please ? Is it a light sabre ?
Only just seen this. Bravo! Lovely bass too.
13. You missed one of the older models on eBay last week, went for a little over £100. I was thinking about buying it myself but I don't have room on my board for it. Still thought about buying it, hehe. I really like the old BMS it's a great unit.
14. If it's quiet it could be your pickup isn't producing a very strong signal. Which pickup are you using? A friend of mine tested a realist, full circle and my bassmax back to back last week and said the bassmax - when it had a good fit - was considerably louder than the others. It's still a lot quieter than the mag pups on a bass guitar though.
15. I've had three or four of them. IMO the current version is flawed and doesn't perform or sound as good as the older model, the older one is also easier to use because the sliders are longer and have a better feel to them. The old BMS is a really great pedal that makes some very useful noises, the new BMS is a bit weak by comparison.
16. Could this be a candidate?
17. Our drummer -who to be fair is no mean hand percussionist, he has some tabla training -has got one of these and he comes up with some amazing grooves with it. Great instrument in the right hands.
18.

Tell you what I really rate Ray as a guitar player. What a sound.
19. So it doesn't look like a cheap orange bass? I know it is a cheap bass, but you know what I mean.
20. Regarding the Thomann 22 - are they finished in that manky orange colour? Hard to tell from the one photo on the website which looks manky orange but the description says it's an 'antique' finish?
21.
The one thing about DB that concerns me apart from the size and the volume is the physial effort it takes to play it. I'm sure you'll get used to it in the end but I've had problems with my tendons before and I'm not sure I want to risk that again !
I've got women's wrists too, bass guitar can really cause problems with my tendons these days but I seem to be able to play as much double bass as I like and get no such problems. The technique for DB is much easier on your wrists. I did initially have some discomfort in my plucking hand because I was using my wrist too much but Geoff (above) showed me how to avoid that and I don't have any issues now.
22. Is that another one of yours?
23. Yeah I don't want LEDs either, if I was going to buy a Status it would have to not look much like a Status so maybe black, with a headstock.
24. I'm not a big fan of figured wood tops though, don't think I'd find a used S2 that I'd like.
