I also know a 5'6"-ish DB player who plays a 3/4. I think it's worth considering a 4/4 if you're well over 6ft, but anyone adult-sized can play a 3/4

It's good to see an alternative approach to mixing, and hiding some of the complexity is probably a good place to start. I don't really like the look of this solution but hopefully we'll see other companies bringing their own ideas to bear on it.

Awesome I was hoping another formulaic talent show would come along soon. Nothing I enjoy more than crying hopefuls who've wanted to be singers since they were monocellular. Definitely hope the whole operation doesn't get consumed by fire, killing everybody involved.

If you've already got one why not try it? It won't damage anything. FWIW though I tried a Bassmax into my LS-2 to see if I could avoid buying a dedicated preamp, but it didn't help - I still got a nasal, horrible sound.

There's an issue in that pots with an exponential taper are best suited for volume control (the volume pots in your guitars will be exp. pots) due to the way we perceive increases in volume, but a linear taper is best for expression pedal usage. So even though the Boss has sockets suitable for both applications, unless it's got two different pots in there then one of the functions (probably the exp. function given that it looks more of an afterthought) will be less than ideal. I would look for two pedals if I were you.

What a player. Totally unique sound, amazing application of effects, and he can smoke most of the career shredders too. That's the most musical slap bass I've probably ever heard.

Yeah but there are times where it sounds like he's doing more with the filter than just envelope control. I agree that the Chunk Systems combo is a really good setup though.

Could actually be a Boss SYB-5 with an exp. pedal on the filter. It's definitely not the EHX BMS or the Octavius Squeezer.

I think it depends on the audience more than the band. I don't get that feeling when recording/rehearsing anyway, it's about the crowd pushing the band to be better.

Only trouble with the Muff on bass is it gets lost with guitars. If you haven't got a guitarist it's great though. I try not to have guitarists any more.

I've got two bass guitars, one is a 1991 Warwick Thumb, the other is a Squier Standard Jazz (fake walnut finish) that IIRC I paid fellow basschatter cd_david £100 for on a platform at Newcastle Central station. I've since replaced the bridge (iffy A-string saddle) and the pots (wanted to try 500k volume pots), tone cap (.1uF - I was in a reggae band at the time) and fitted a series/parallel push/pull tone pot (BOOM!) but the actual pickups are still the stock pickups and after spending maybe £30 on hardware (and to be fair, more on strings - it's got LaBella 760FLs on it) it sounds and plays fantastic. I use it for '60s soul and rocksteady sounds and my word it is the business, even recorded. Also took it to a gig earlier this month where another bassist (who has a £10,000 double bass) asked if he could play it for one tune he was doing, and he loved it. One downside: It has a bit of a dead spot on the lowest G#. Real shame. It's like a rescue shelter dog where there's just one little niggling thing that lets it down. But hey, my double bass has a dead spot in the same place, and I've bought basses for over a grand that had dead spots, it seems unfair to pick on the Squier. In short: The standards are OMFG cheap, but there's very little wrong with them. Mine is honestly a keeper. Limited role, but a keeper.
