1. ah yeah i remember these, i think they've been discussed in the realms of basschat before. Funny though...amazing they’ve not sold already
 2.
It does work well. Here's a pic of your old Thumb after a brush up. I went ahead and did the whole body (only took a couple of hours work). You might find that your refinished bit looks so much fresher than the rest so you might want to consider the same. If you do decide to re-wax then the way Warwick do it is to apply a melted wax layer to the bare wood before waxing as normal for later layers. I guess this is to help the wax soak into the wood. I picked this tip up from the Warwick forum and it worked perfectly for me.
Ah very nice So how would one apply a melted layer of wax? (this process is being put into practise tomorrow me thinks :brow:)
 3.
Ah, she's very understanding and calmed down eventually. I bought something even nicer with it.
ah that's cool then, kind of like an upgrade. In that case, she should be happy about it
 4.
I'm with Mrs WoT. On being horrified I mean!
+1 Would you sell your wedding ring if you were still married to the same person?
 5.
WHAT BAND ARE YOU IN?
Since everyone went their own ways after uni I’ve joined a really sh*t band. Were called “Ben’s Imaginary But Miraculously Marvellous Mystery Band of Funk Justice” - not gigging near you, or anyone else.
 6. I’ve just become the owner of one of these as the by-product of buying a SSII. They are solid as f***!! Great case, have a bump…
 7.
If you're worried about the heat then why don't you try smoothing the ding back with some green scotchbrite cloths and re-wax? I refinished the Thumb BO that way.... Won't remove it completely, but it should make it far less obvious.. That's assuming the Streamer has a natural finish.....
It is indeed a natural finish, and the scotchbrite cloth idea sounds like a gooden, cheers Rick. I think that idea should definitely work with a couple of the shallower dings/scratches. I gave it a good wax up this afternoon so depending on how arsed I can be, I’ll probably end up giving it another going over tomorrow with some scotchbrite stuff and see how it goes. My girlfriend thinks I’m being finicky about it though cos realistically it’s not bad at all for a 10 year old bass that’s been regularly used...there's nothing like a smooth natural finish though
 8.
Do you have a smooth pussy?
EDIT: old link didn’t work so I changed the pic – doesn’t have the same effect…bollocks
 9.
Oh!! I can just see a large iron shaped burn happening. Not something I'd like to do on a qualidee unit mate.
Yeah I’m thinking that myself – I could just make it a lot worse
 10.
I think the iron method will work on an indentation, but I doubt it would do much for a ding or scratch It might be worth looking through your local yellow pages for a French polisher, I had one repair a sizeable three cornered ding in a natural bodied bass a while ago, made a really good job of it. If your unsure of what you're doing, it may cost more in the long run to put right. i'd have a go on a cheapo bass, but if you value the instrument it might be the best course.
Cheers mate, and good advice re: my amateurness with repairs on expensive instruments I think I might live with it for a while as in all honesty they’re not too bad and you can’t notice them unless you’re holding the bass…so I think I’m just being a bit picky. I mentioned the French Polisher to my girlfriend and she seems to know what that’s about (cos I don’t ) so I’ll investigate that as well.
 11. Just got a Streamer Stage II It's not the most expensive on here, but I thought I'd just let everyone know about my new toy. Now I've got a Stage I and a Stage II :brow:
 12. Before I start – I’m not married (just wanted to make that one clear) My girlfriend got me a ring after we had been together for about 2 years and I would always take it off when I was playing bass, but the more I go used to it I found that it didn’t feel comfortable without it on. I wear it on the middle finger of my right hand so it’s a slightly different issue to having it on your left hand and dealing with the neck of the bass, but it still took some getting used to and I think that’s all it takes; a bit of getting used to. Mine is quite chunky so that probably didn’t speed up the getting used to it process, but it only took a few weeks and now the only time I notice it is when I don’t have it on.
 13. The shape that does everything for me (looks cool and feels really comfortable) has to be the Warwick incarnation of the Ned Steinberg body shape (Streamer). I’ve played a few Spectors with pretty much an identical body shape and it just didn’t feel right. That could have been to do with the neck though, I dunno. Either way, the shape of the Streamer is ideal for me and I personally think they also look the mutts nuts There are other body shapes that I think do look great (Warwick Thumb, Fender P & J, F Bass BN4, Modulus Flea bass…) but I think the Ned Steinberg shape does it all. I don’t like single cut designs though.
 14.
Same here,i much prefered it with the other neck.Still tis a very nice bass and good luck with the sale.
+1
 15.
See lad, if you had a proper bass with laquer n' that, rather than one that wants polished with voodoo butter...
…then I’d have to chop it in for a half decent slab of wood (don't mention the football)
Tried Furniture Medic?
Ah very interesting. “Repair of wood surfaces - scratches, dents…”. It would be interesting to learn how they do that, although being a tight arse (as well as having the blind belief that I can do anything ) I want to learn how to do it myself rather than forking out for a ‘pro’ to do it. This has given me an idea though – I know one of my sister’s good mates is a trained/qualified carpenter. I might see if he has any tips or even if he reckons he could do it for mates rates :brow:
 16.
Its also good to see basses with thumb rests. A lack of thumb rest puts me off owning most acoustic basses. That and the fact I've never heard one that was loud enough to compete with an acoustic guitar without amplification. Kinda makes the whole idea of an acoustic bass pointless really?
+1 I’m thinking of selling my Takamine acoustic bass because of the lack of thumb rest, but in all honesty, I got used to having nothing to rest my thumb on after about a week and I’ve had it about a year now anyway. I just don’t think acoustic basses are for me though. I just find them a bit odd to play, or maybe that just means that I’ve not found one that’s right for me yet? Who knows…
 17. Damp cloth + hot iron = removal of dings? I’ve heard many people recommend this as a way of removing light dings and scratches from natural finished instruments but has anyone got any experience with it? The theory is that you place the damp cloth over the ding or scratch that you’re trying to remove, and then you place a really hot iron on the cloth so the moisture in the cloth is absorbed into the wood and is meant to encourage the ding to swell back up. That’s my understanding of it anyway, but how damp should the cloth be, and how hot should the iron be, and then how long should I leave the iron on the cloth? I’m thinking of doing this on quite an expensive bass (Streamer Stage II) so does anyone know what the potential dangers of this are and what a likely success:failure ratio is going to be? What’s the worst case scenario? i.e. if it all goes to sh*t, how badly am I going to ruin the bass? Any comments for and against will be appreciated as I’m in two minds as to whether I’m going to go through with it anyway. As always, thanks in advance…
 18. Unless you’ve got some very powerful and expensive software, any time stretching is going to sound awful. You’ll get away with it if it’s just a very minor adjustment and if the part your stretching isn’t really a “vital” or “significant/noticeable” part of what you’re doing, but otherwise I’d just recommend re-recording it. You can’t polish a turd… Specifically bass loops – Record them with a click set at the tempo you want, and then just loop it. Seen as you’re playing the bass parts yourself it’s not going to be hard to re-record them at the desired tempo, i.e. it’s not going to mean booking the session player/band again etc. Play it (the bass lines) in real time at the tempo you want, and then set the global tempo of the piece to this tempo (I don’t know Garageband at all) so then you can build up the drum loops around the bass parts. Obviously the bass loops have to be the same tempo as the drum loops for this to work (which I think is what you were saying is your original problem). If you can’t re-record or reprogram the drum loops, then the tempo that they are already at is going to determine the tempo of what you’re doing and therefore the tempo that you have to record the bass lines at. Hope this makes sense, I can be bad at trying to explain myself, but I wouldn’t try making any significant changes to the tempo of any melodic audio. You can change the tempo of drum loops quite easily though, but I only know how to do this in ProTools using some really good plugins. Basically the software breaks the drum loops up into hundreds of samples where there are defined hit points and then plays these samples back at either a faster or slower rate (sooner or later - the individual samples aren't sped up but the time at which they're triggered is changed) than the original - you can make significant time changes without it sounding too obvious. (I’ve just realised that I’ve probably right gone off topic from what you need )
 19.
I would say it's in Korean Won! (So about £500).
That seems a lot more reasonable
 20.
My new range of basses are due out soon the 4 and 5 string "Cum Whores"
Ever thought about "The Sperm Dumpster"?
 21.
Wow so young .. You'd better start taking glucousamine as from now ...
I take that (with a couple of other things) and I'm only 23 I've had a few sporting injuries (knees/ankles) that I've never 100% recovered from and it seems to help when I go running. If I don't take them it takes a lot longer to recover from simple things like a medium distance run and it's a pain in the arse (not literally) Never had an issue with my hands though...
 22.
There's some seriously nice looking basses on that site.I feel a bout os G.A.S coming on. aaaarrrghhhh!
It very momentarily had me in its grasps as well, but then I starting playing around with the currency converter and I think the one that caught my eye is edging on for £5k! I’ve never lost GAS so fast I could have f***ed up on the old currency converter thing cos it doesn’t actually say what currency it’s in, so I’ve guessed that the 980,000 quoted figure is Yen which works out to be 4,994.59 GBP.
 23. They both sound good IMO – A very Marcus Miller ish sound on the 2nd slapping vid, and the bass in the first vid sound really nice being played finger style. Don’t look too bad either. It looks a lot nicer on the webshyte - http://www.willowsguitar.com/willow_sub1.html - This one apparently costs 5,072 of something, maybe yen? …don’t think that’s right cos it works out at about £25.83 Has anyone found a UK dealer or a price list (just out of interest)? Check this one out as well - http://www.willowsguitar.com/willow_sub11.html PS - This is the one that I would probably go for if I were to take the plunge and buy one (just based on the sound of the other 2 )- http://www.willowsguitar.com/willow_sub12_1.html
 24.
Don't forget a bass is for life not just for Christmas
we would all be f***ed if that were the case
 25.
Hmmmmmmmm. Any takers at £450?
Great price for this IMO. Don't think you should be in too much of a hurry to bottom out the price - I'd be surprised if it didn't sell with a little persistence at this price.
