How many guitarists is too many
more than 1, 2 is acceptable, any more than 2 and you're taking the piss...
...Does anyone have real world experience of these combos?
Not specifically this combo, but I used a Sweet 15 in college about 4 or 5 years ago and was very underwhelmed by it. It may just have been that specific Warwick combo that was a bit shoddy, but I wasn’t impressed at all. The newer stuff might be a lot better though. The CL is about £550 new yeah? You can get A LOT of amp for that if you look in the for sale section of this forum…I’m guessing you’re after something small and light though? IMO, the Warwick combos are a bit overpriced when you compare them to the price and performance of the GK or Ampeg combos.
My old housemate has one, they're great basses. Lovely tone and very nice indeed to play. Have a look at www.myspace.com/carterbrown to hear it in action!
Cheers for that, it sounds and looks good man despite the low quality myspace MP3s – I’ve got to try one out somewhere, I’m not buying before trying again… PS - Good band as well

I have fallen foul of the GAS since I joined this site, but it’s been a lot of fun buying and selling lots of stuff. I’ve changed rig 3 times in as many months I’m sticking with what I’ve got now though, for the moment anyway! Don’t get me started on Bass GAS…
I heard a story the other day about Richard Branson. He said he would seek an area where a quality service wasn't being provided, and then provide it. His reasoning is that there will always be a market for a quality service.
Well he’s really f***ed up with Virgin Media then
he said: hi,thanks for your comments but if you look at the serial number and check it with fender you will find that you are very wrong..i paid over 700 pounds for it at TMC in coventry who are a fender dealer a year ago...
I don't know anyone stupid enough to pay £700 for a MIM Jazz. It doesn't look like any of his bidders are gonna be fooled into thinking it's a USA bass anyway @ £272. Surely he knows full well it's not a USA bass otherwise he would have advertised it as being one. What a nob... EDIT: Just noticed he's published his phone number. Might be worth calling him on 07793562055 if anyone feels like they want to help him see the error of his ways?
Hanks is part of this fiasco too? That's really sad, they seemed to me to be cut from different cloth.
I think we should be taking that with a pinch of salt though. The staff make the shop what it is in respect to customer service and general atmosphere, not the owners who rarely show their face. If you get good customer service in a shop that is owned by the same people who own the Bass Cellar then don’t stop going back their because of how sh*t the Bass Cellar is for customer service, hopefully that will be reflected in low sales anyway. Realistically, it’s equally the owner’s and staff’s responsibility to provide good customer service. It’s the owner’s responsibility to hire management who regard customer service as a vital attribute for a music shop, and then it’s the management’s responsibility to hire staff that are willing to provide good customer service. If Music Ground own Hanks Guitars and you’re getting good customer service in there, then I’d be guessing that poor management of the Bass Cellar has lead to these customer service horror stories that have been mentioned on this thread.

The grain of the walnut in that neck is amazing, I love it. Looking forward to seeing pics of it finished…
...i thought the neck on the squier felt better, better finish and it felt thinner for some reason...
That’s interesting to hear, but I’m slightly ashamed to admit that I’m a bit of a gear snob so the Squire is a complete no-go for me. I’ve got to find somewhere where I can try this against a new ’08 American Standard Jazz, cos that’s the other one I’ve been eyeing up, but a new one is out of my price range at the moment.

haha that's class, not a bad MIDI cheese bass sound either...but very cheese...
I quite liked the one I tried. A very modern Jazz sound to it - great tone to it. The active EQ does make a big difference to the tone and in a positive way...
So they're not bad then? I just found out they're "Made In Korea", so that's put me off a bit and probably explained why they're relatively cheap.
-
Has anyone got one/tried one? What are they like and how do they differ in feel to the ‘normal’ Jazz basses? Just for clarification, I’m talking about this: Active with Seymour Duncan pickups, and personally I think they look pretty damn good as well. I can’t really understand why they’re cheaper than the normal Jazz basses though (I can get one new for under £500) - Can anyone explain? (is it cos they're sh*t?) The 24 frets really appeal to me as I’m usually a Warwick player, but it’s not only this that seems different about the Jazz 24 compared to the normal Jazz basses…the active Seymour Duncan’s are an obvious difference… Does anyone know anywhere near Derby (Birmingham or Nottingham probably) where I could go and try one out? Alternatively, any suggestions for a decent Jazz bass (new or used) for around the £500 mark?
It's already gone mate - £375 in cold hard cash - f***ing bargain if you ask me, but then I’m pretty happy to have it gone and not taking up space
I will try and get to try out a thumb bass...
Yeah if you can get to somewhere to try one out and are still interested then let me know mate. I know Sound Control (now Reverb) in Brum used to stock a few Warwicks, maybe try there?
