new post issue
just happened now, pretty much all the threads iv read today in the bass classifieds are now 'unread' apparantly
yeah its happened to me a couple of times this week but i didn’t know if it was an issue at my end because I've just had that Virgin fibre-optic broadband installed and I've had some network issues…can’t remember exactly when its happened though.
  2.
Do strings REALLY matter?
IMO they’re one of THE most important things – it’s what your fingers come into contact with and ultimately where the original sound is coming from. I find that different gauge strings can affect how fast I can play and also how well/accurately I can play. I used to play some pretty light gauge Ernie Ball Extra Slinky strings (40/60/70/95), but more recently I tend to prefer slightly heaver gauge strings – the EB Super Slinky strings (45/65/80/100). There’s loads of things that make strings feel and sound different - the material it’s made from, its construction, its gauge, etc… I’ve tried so many different manufactures and gauges over about 8 years and I seem to keep coming back to Ernie Ball as I find they feel and sound the best for me…it’s all personal preference though. I love the feel and sound of fresh strings though so I change mine and boil old sets up quite a lot.

Chester - can I interest you in a trade for this? - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=23323

    Bass exams
...It's only the mad variations on the scales that are difficult to learn.
+1 I went for my grade 8 when I was 17, absolutely nailed the 3 tunes but fell completely on my arse with the scales. My fault though, I should have put more practise in. The examiner said after that she had to mark me down in other areas of the exam so that I didn’t pass due to being so sh*t with the scales – that didn’t go down well though because she was basically saying that I did enough to pass but then had my marks lowered so I didn’t pass due to the scales. I wasn’t happy…

    Sibelius

Sibelius was fantastic for me when I was at college about 5 years ago, but it’s so complex and in-depth for me now. I doubt I'm likely to ever use it again, but it's an amazing piece of software for scoring or composing.
  7.
check out TB. there are alot of in depth threads on this topic
Cheers mate, I’ve just registered on TB, but I’ve got no idea how to navigate the site. Could you post me a link?
  8.
Another new member whose first posting is to sell. Grrr
yeah i used to think like that too, but for me i think I'm over it now. The thing that used to really get on my tits was when new members put something up for sale with nothing more than "Great Condition" as the full description of the item, let alone having no pics.
whoa looks nice but that's ALOT for a Streamer STD in the current Warwick climate in my humble opinion.
This is a great cheap bass though, but I thought the forum etiquette was to PM members when the price was an issue?
  9. Beasty! - never seen one of these before
  10. these are great basses and well worth the RRP let alone a reduced 2nd hand price
  11. For all those LMII and Shuttle 6.0 owners…which one should I buy? I’m in the market for a lightweight solution and these 2 heads are on my very short shortlist. I’m edging towards the Genz Benz because of the higher power output, the 2 speaker outputs, and the footswitch, but I’m happy to be swayed either way – convince me. PS – Sorry if there’s a similar thread on this; I’m surprised there isn’t one already…
Hey mate, how much would you be looking for to sell just the cab? Ferg
I’m splitting it now if you’re still interested mate? £450 for the cab
  14.
Absolute Music are one of the main distributors in the South if not the UK I think!????! So I suppose they are just protecting the brand and their sales figures too. But this seems to be the case with a lot of companies that are getting pretty ticked off with shops, (especially onine retailers), flogging their products on the cheap. I heard that Stagg were a bit miffed with online retailers selling the EDB on the cheap! Are they going to honour the £699 though?
It’s about being competitive in the market though, and if you’re able to run your company in such a way that you have hardly any overheads then you can obviously squeeze your profit margins to be very competitive in the market. Other companies who can’t do that have don’t really have much to be pissed off about it, they should take a closer look at the way they are running their own business rather than blaming other companies for the reason that they can’t compete in the market. Manufactures like to keep the price at a certain level so it gives the consumer a perceived value of that product and doesn’t cheapen it, if you get what I’m saying. The manufacture pretty much makes the same money from selling the products to the distributers/shops anyway.
  15.
They said they would price match and I've seen it for cheaper than £699, even though the guy I spoke to said he would report the cheaper seller to Warwick as they can't sell it cheaper than £699 or something...weird...
Yeah I’ve heard that with a few manufactures – HotRox in Nottingham were having some issues with ZVex about selling the pedals a bit too cheaply, seems ridiculous though and almost like a false economy for keeping the prices ‘artificially’ high. I can understand it though, oh well.
  16. I can’t work this out – basically some guy in America has decided to sell his Mark Hoppus (Blink 182) MIM Jazz on ebay, but…in 3 parts?! He’s selling the neck in one auction - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Mark-Hoppus-B...1QQcmdZViewItem The body in another - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Mark-Hoppus-B...1QQcmdZViewItem And then the tuners in another - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Blink-182-Mark-Hoppu...1QQcmdZViewItem ? ? Maybe it’s something in the water over there…or maybe he thinks he will get more money this way some how? I’d have thought that if anything he’s likely to get a lot less cash for this fairly common MIM bass by selling it this way. What a nutter
  17.
I think £650-£750 depending if it has a nice birdseye or flame maple neck and if it's in good condition.
yeah I'd say towards the £700 - £750 mark if it was in good condition with a birds eye neck, if it has a 'standard' neck then probably more towards the £700 or £650 mark, but it's more than worth that price mate, they're going for peanuts at the moment because the market has gone to sh*t.
  18. Personal preference is definitely the bottom line, but it’s a very common misconception that larger drivers will have a lower frequency response than smaller drivers – the characteristics of drivers are dramatically changed or manipulated by their enclosures (cabs). Phase cancelation can be an issue as well when pairing cabs, not to mention that some high end multiple driver cabs can suffer from a degree of phase cancelation due to their poor design. I’ll explain further if you like, but I feel that I’d just be repeating myself (and others) from other threads.
  19. sweeeeeet enjoyed that a lot mate, mucho kudos
