My 4.....

i dont usually like gold hardware but that stingray looks amazing
  2. buy a JBL GTO 12" sub for 20 quid, design and build a simple ported enclosure, then buy a cheap 400W 12V car amp. You could do all that for about 300 quid, probably a lot less if you buy a 2nd hand amp, and it would kick the sh*t out of the sound you would get from a bass amp for that application. Bass cabs aren't tuned low enough to be used as a good in-car sub solution. You need something with a tuning frequency of around 26Hz, maybe lower :brow: don't underestimate those JBL subs though - amazing value for money and they're going for peanuts at the moment. all this isn't even taking into consideration the hassle of generating enough power from a 12V converter to actually run a powerful GK bass amp
  3. good to see the 'ray getting out and about

bump... Not really a feeler anymore. Looking for a trade or sale on this now. I’m inviting sensible offers.
  5.
Waxing can be a bit of a chore, especially if you want to be thorough (wax between the pickups, pots, bridge...). I dont mind it myself but I can see some do.
Is 10-15 mins really that taxing every 6 months?

  7.
I have obviously done my fair share of gigs as favours, for a burger, for stupid money considering distance etc but recently I've just been thinking why sell yourself short. As said, I'm not going to go out for less than I think I should, if I get the gigs great, if I don't, nobodys time is wasted. I feel that I have a value for what i bring to the music, thats why we put all the graft into be as "good" as we can be. Maybe as I said earlier the other bands/musicians etc put their value lower for whatever reasons, but in general, I'm not sure its good overall. Although as it has been said, the work (at what level you want to play/pay) is out there if you want to get it. And of course, I won't be playig at the establishment that made me type the original post.
I think that’s a valid perspective, and a very poignant one for a lot of people in the industry. One of my lectures at Uni always told me to never sell myself short because that does more damage than good for myself as well as others in the industry because it puts a lower price on my skills and puts people in the mindset that they can hire professionals at cheap rates. He made the point that it’s better to do a one off gigs/mixes/masters/recording sessions etc for free (but to make the point that it’s a one off) than to accept a small payment, because you’re then selling yourself at that lower price so people will expect to be able to book you at that price again…if you get what I mean – I’m terrible at explaining myself sometimes. Basically everyone has their price, if you’re not offered what you’re worth then walk away from it, don’t accept a lower fee. That’s the advice I’ve received, and seems like pretty sound advice to me. It’s people accepting low fees that’s ultimately causing bar managers/promoters/venues to hire cheaper and cheaper acts to get the punters through the doors. As has been said before – if you’re worth a respectable fee then don’t accept a low fee or don’t work with tight-fisted venues.
  8. Thanks for everyone’s input so far, and a lot of good points have been made that I’ve not considered, as well as other valid points that I’ve thought about before. The thing is, I’m not buying stuff from scratch. I’ve been offered a trade for my Ampeg rig that’s advertised in the market place, but the trade is for a bass of a similar value to the rig, so I’d be left with a cracking bass (that I’ve got major GAS for) but no amp. The decision on my part is whether I can live without an amp for a while, and then when the time comes (and a bit of cash) I’d buy a much cheaper amp to get by with, so it’s weighing up if the amp sacrifice is worth it for the bass…it’s a toughie. It’s a decision that’s going to take me a while I think, but I’m just interested in hearing what you guys think, and it might help me decide, but for me it’s a big decision and one that I can’t really take lightly. In an ideal world I’d get a very generous cash offer for the Ampeg so then I can do exactly what I want with the cash (gear wise)
  9. Would you rather spend a lot of money on a bass or an amp? I’m just interested on hearing people’s views on this because I’m in a bit of a dilemma and it might help me to hear the opinions of others. I’m talking over a grand here, probably about 1500 quid. If you're regularly gigging then I suppose it’s a no-brainer that you really need your amp, but if you're not regularly gigging, do you think you can survive without an amp for a while…maybe 2 or 3 months? And would you downgrade your amp considerably in order to acquire a dream bass? …decisions, decisions…

  11. Great amp at a great price…can’t believe no one’s had it
  12. I’d love to donate, but I’ve just graduated, don’t have a job (despite 6 weeks of looking and a f***ing degree – whole lot of good the last 3 years have been), have to pay rent/utility bills etc, and I’m selling gear on here so I don’t get to the point where being evicted from my house is a possibility…it’s not always as black and white as people just being tight. I definitely sympathise with you though, and of course it’s disappointing that more people haven’t contributed. Was this raffle/auction supported by the mods? Maybe they could have done more to make members aware that it was happening? – such as a temporary notice on the home page with a link to any relevant pages? Forgive me if a lot has been done to support this event by the moderators and members alike, but as far as I’m aware, the related threads have not been the most high profile on the site recently, so maybe more could have been done? I don’t think the quality of the gear should stop people from making charitable donations though; you have to remember that this is for a good cause and not a competition in a magazine.
  13.
Is it actually just bar managers that are idiots!?
I’d say that it’s just bar managers that are dick heads I’ve met a few in my time and a lot are just f***ing retards that have been working at the same place since they were 15 and have just ended up inheriting the position despite having little or no common sense or real social skills. There’s always the exception that are great, but in my experience, they are a rarity.

  16.
This really is a fantastic bit of kit.
Thanks Mike. I’ve only used it twice at home since I bought it off you, and you’re definitely right about the quality of the sounds being better than the Line 6 stuff…the synth sounds anyway , but then I suppose that DigiTech are all about the synth :brow: The Whammy is great fun anyways.
  17. A fantastic multi-effects pedal with built in 8 track recorder and drum machine in minty mint condition – there’s not a single scratch or sign of wear on it at all. I bought this recently after a sudden bout of GAS when I had some spare cash, now money is a bit tight so this has to be the first thing to go. Here’s what DigiTech have to say about it - http://www.digitech.com/products/bnx3.htm Dolphin and a few other retailers are selling this new for £349 without a memory card - http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...4092/a/r/e/base - all I’m looking for is £140 posted, including a 128MB card which allows up to 90mins of recording. Includes AC adapter and original manual.

Ferg
I'm not really looking to split them at the moment mate. If I can't get a deal that I'm happy with for the whole lot then I might think about splitting it, but might end up withdrawing it if that happens as this whole process is a bit painful for me and I’m only going to let it go if I strike a deal that I’m 100% happy with
  21. The Pulp Fiction soundtrack is fantastic. It was the first soundtrack i bought and the only one I ever listen to. Some great tunes on there. Tarantino soundtracks are nearly always great though IMO. EDIT: Doesn't fit into Bilbo's rule that "it must be a work put together for a film soundtrack and not a compilation of hits to act as a backdrop to a 'set piece'"...but f*** it, it's a great soundtrack I do have one that does fit into the rule though - Moguai's Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait. Awesome soundtrack, totally epic in places. Black Spider is my #1 moody chill out track.
  22. sounds great...just have to work out how the hell i am going to get to Great Yarmouth
