In terms of what I’d be happy to trade for - it would be a good quality lightweight cab such as the Epifani UL-310 (47lbs) + a decent head (preferably less than 35lbs). If someone had one or the other and was willing to do a P/X + cash deal, then I would also consider this. Let me know what you’ve got…
Trust me though Ben, the bass does sound different to the newer model, it's much more brighter and the wenge adds a great deal of warmth to the tone as opposed to the ovangkol neck which is much more dark sounding.
I'd love to have this off you mate but cash flow is a real problem at the moment and I can't really justify it when I've got a perfectly good Thumb BO and a Streamer Stage I as well as a Streamer Std + the non-Warwick’s that I own... Disappointing, but this is not going to be coming to Derby

Terrible Trace butchery but a great price IMO – for a snip over £100 someone has got a good condition 4x10 Trace cab and a Behringer head…great deal.
£450 if buyer arranges delivery. £425 if buyer collects.
does that mean that if i were to arrange delivery the bass would be £450 + the delivery or £450 all in but I'd have to arrange the collection of it? ahhhhhHHHHH!!! i dont need this at all...but i WANT it just for the neck gawd damn it!
well as i said everyone else seems to have had no problems, so it probably was one arsehole and he probably has quit, just trying to remember the name of the guy...
It’s a small husband and wife business with a great reputation within the industry – the last time I was in there they were preparing a massive order of valves for the We Will Rock You tour. Maybe the lesson is to keep hold of the tracking number till everything is sorted? I think the guy is called Mark or something, I’ve forgotten his name too, but he’s only ever really helpful with customers whenever I’ve been in the shop and he seems like a really genuine guy who wouldn’t rip someone off £50 like that. Think you’ve just been pretty unlucky with what happened. They've got a great customer service reputation locally anyway.

My experience of hotrox has only ever been very positive, but then I actually go down to the shop rather than buying off the net. I’d also be interested to hear about a £50 premium on returns?

I’ve read your for sale thread for them, but have you got any pics of them that you’d be able to put up?

£400 FOR THE CAB - The price is going no lower! Here's what Ampeg have to say about it - [i]This is the speaker cabinet for the bass player who demands the ultimate in a single, compact cabinet setup. The SVT-410HLF delivers devastating low-end bass, all the way down to 28Hz, thanks to four 10” speakers working together to move a tremendous amount of air. The SVT-410HLF actually moves 10% more air than two 18-inch speakers, and 25% more than three 15-inch speakers! And those leviathans simply can’t respond to transient peaks as quickly as four tens can. The SVT-410HLF also delivers superb top-end, thanks to its 1” horn driver, strategically crossed over at 4kHz. This is a favorite enclosure for such artists as Meshell Ndegeocello, John McVie of Fleetwood Mac, and Ricky Skaggs’ bass player, Mark Fain. The Ampeg SVT-410HLF is the supreme speaker enclosure for the multi-string bass player seeking both superior power handling and true high-fidelity performance.
So apparently "immaculate" encompasses a multitude of meanings including "not having been gigged"
Comical - Under that definition of “immaculate”, I have an immaculate Carlsbro Cobra 90 bass combo that’s never been gigged…did I mention that I took a 24lb sledge hammer to it and it’s now in a few hundred bits?
Mark King certainly inspired a lot of folk to play bass. Sadly many were satisfied to copy his style and lines , which isn't his fault. A very skilled player , a profile raiser almost wthout equal , I've lot to admire the guy for. I just don't care much for Level 42's music or have any desire to play bass the way he plays it.
I’d agree with a lot of that. You can’t talk down his skill and ability or his influence on many aspiring players. I’m not a huge fan of his sound or music at all, but I bought one of his solo CDs a couple of months ago (Influences) and there’s a lot on that for any musician to appreciate, let alone bass players – some fantastic and immensely complex finger style bass lines amongst some small sections of slap showboating…he’s not just a 1 trick pony you know EDIT: He’s credited for playing almost every instrument on that CD too – undeniably a great musician.

Ahh…so OLP f***ed it up for themselves, unlucky. If OLP have got their act together then why pull the licence now?
Yep - their plan is to start over with a new manufacturer, but they don't seem to be in too much of a rush.
What’s happened with OLP? Were EB not happy with the quality of the products they’ve been producing? I must have had my head up my arse recently cos I’ve not heard about this yet. Excuse me if there’s another thread about this…

i think OLP's are generally regarded as the best Stingray copies that are out there…I could be wrong though. I've played a few but not really got on with them, but then again i didn’t get on with my MM Stingray either which i owned from new for about 3 years. They’re really common so I’d be surprised if you couldn’t find one in a shop somewhere to try. For the money I don’t think you can go too wrong - just judging from some of the reviews they get.
In case it gets published in the 'Reader's necks' section of a porn mag - the saucy little minx !!! Would you want your mates at work giggling away going 'Look , that's Ben's neck - Cor , Wahey - look at the 3 extra frets on that etc' ???
haha, i didnt think about that
-
Why has he bothered to taped over the manufacturer’s logo? Everyone knows it’s going to be from a very cheap P copy so why bother taping over it? If anything that would just put off potential buyers instead of luring them in.
I don't bother with spare strings though, i can't see any of them snapping.
spare strings are almost the only things i do bother with - when i was about 17 i went through a stage of snapping a ridiculous amount of strings, at least 1 every 2 weeks (and often more) but this was more to do with aggressive slapping and a very badly set up bass. Saying this, I’ve not bothered changing a snapped string when I’ve been on stage before. If it’s towards the end of the set then I can usually blag it and it’s not worth the 3 min total faff and looking like a complete cock.

I like my active basses and the sound of my Ampeg valve head…I don’t have a clue what that makes me

I’ve got a funny story about needing a back up guitar in my old band (not me obviously…the guitarist needed it) – We had just finished the sound check at Junktion 7 in Notts and Baz (guitarist) leant his Epiphone Les Paul up against his amp……SMASH!!!!! The guitar slid down the face of the amp and smashed into the floor, and I was watching this happening in slow motion from about 10 meters away feeling completely helpless to stop it. The headstock just completely snapped off in 1 cleanish break, Baz was gutted and tried gluing it back on with superglue! I’ve got some great pics of it but I can’t seem to find them at the moment… Funny as f*** though cos he then went round asking the other bands if he could borrow a guitar after everyone in the place had just watched this happen.
Hi I'm Greg One night I woke up and thought "Hey, I want to learn how to play bass" then I went back to sleep. About five minutes later I though "Hey, I don't have any money at all" so I went back to sleep again, almost instantly I woke up and though "Hey, I could build one". So with my non-existent knowledge of guitars, electronics and carpentry, I set to work learning how to make an electric bass and after about 3 days of trial and error I finally made a bass from some 4x2 and a piezo. So after playing with this barely-working one stringed monstrosity I went to bed happy. The next morning I woke up preparing to stroke my franken-tar when I couldn't feel anything, no splinters in my hand and no electric shock running through my body. about an hour of looking under my bed, my mum informed me that she threw it away as she though it was just a big piece of wood (which it was) now this would be all fine and dandy if it weren't 'bin-day' the same day. So after mourning the death of Gregtar Mark 1, I though "Hey, why dont I make a real bass guitar, one that you can actually play... So to the actual point of this article: I want to make a bass guitar that would be easy to play and easy to learn and so I need a bit of help designing the body and length of the neck Thanks a lot if you can help Greg P.S I'm in my young teens so its not weird me living with my parents
I’ve got loads of admiration for you’re enthusiasm man!! Great story regarding the Gregtar Mk1, made me chuckle. Prepare yourself for a steep learning curve given that you admittedly hold little knowledge of all the essential skills it takes to build a bass. Kudos to you though for giving it a bash…maybe one day I’ll gain the confidence to do it myself. Have you considered starting with a simple project like assembling a bass kit, rather than starting from scratch for your first ever project?
