1. Just read this whole thread…unlucky mate. As others have said, I’d raise an issue about the guy’s attitude to start with, and he is very abrupt and sketchy when you’ve been asking about the serial. The guy sounds like a complete c*** to be honest – how can he write a listing that starts with “Markbass Little Mark II - Bass Amp Head Immaculate Condition with carry case..” when he clearly knows it’s a massive fabrication of the truth and he’s lying. Have you got an update on the situation anyway? For me, this is just another example of why people should avoid ebay about as much as having unprotected sex with a Thai hooker. Hope it all works out for you though mate
  2.
If it was me i would get a decent brass nut made, our very own paul c (Arrowhead guitars) made one for me and it was £30 fitted and adjusted. I am sure it made a big difference to the playability and i think looked better than the warwick equivalent.
do us a quick snap shot...
  3.
It all came from www.warwick.de , if you go to the shop they have a huge range of parts on there in gold, silver, matt silver and black. I bought absolutely everything in black right down to the pot washers and nuts, and even the neck washers (prob have a proper name) if you werent as fussy as that you could probably save some cash as even the odd screws and washer were about 50p each. Also you will need one less machinehead so 6-7 euros off, the bridge set for a four was I think around 10-15 euros less, plus I chose the most expensive shipping. I rekon you may be able to get it for around 70-80 but check out the warwick shop, it is seriously worth it and only took about 2 hours to do inbetween a bit of home and away and two cups of tea.
Cheers for the info mate. It will most likely get done before the end of the summer, but my cash flow is shocking at the moment. Very reasonable price though considering how much extra you’re charged if you order black hardware as a custom mod on a new Warwick. I remember being quoted something like £200 extra a few years ago when I was looking at ordering a new Streamer Jazzman in “Nirvana Black” and black hardware, that £200 was just the hardware let alone the body colour. I think their prices for that kind of thing have come down a bit now, but they’re still pretty high.
  4.
I think that, if any of those things happened, I'd be in the corner crying, and sod the rest of the gig.
+1 I’ve brought a back up to 2 gigs before, and they were really important big gigs so I had to make sure I had a contingency plan if anything was to f*** up, but I didn’t need it. Other than that, I’ve not bothered. I broke a G string on stage before (…here come all the witty replies…) and had to work out how to play the last 3 songs of the set with just 3 strings as I was playing them – it was tricky but I got through it. That is the only time ever that I’ve thought, “it would be really handy to have a back up right now”. I think there’s a certain amount of showing off when people bring a good selection of gear to gigs and line it up in the middle of the stage, next to their amp, instead of to the side or slightly off stage. I just think, “how small can your nob actually be if you feel you have to parade your entire bass collection?”. Often people change to a fretless for 1 song, I can understand that, by why change back to the same fretted as before, despite having 2 different fretted basses and a fretless on stage...what’s the point?!?!?!?! Don’t get me started on guitarists…
  5. great result mate...where did you buy the hardware from? and do you think the 4 string equivalent is likely to be cheaper?
  6.
...I feel I have had my reputation soiled, as not all will take my viewpoint on this.
For what it’s worth, I can’t see that you’ve done anything wrong. Once the amp had been sold to you it was then your prerogative to do whatever you want with it – keep it, sell it for less than you got it, sell it for more than you got it, give it away, trade it, smash it to bits…whatever. I don’t think the original owner has any right to be pissed off (even though I can see why he may be annoyed), but then it was his decision to let it go for £300 in the first place. I’ve seen this debate raised a couple of times in the short time I’ve been a member on here and most people are very level headed about it. This can be a fantastic forum for camaraderie, but the bottom line is that no one owes anything to anyone else. I can’t see that your reputation has been “soiled” at all. As nice a guy that BB2000 may be, I think he’s dealt with this situation badly.
  7.
Didn't like the bass playing though, at all. Or the rest of the band.
yeah it sounds really sloppy to me, but she's got a great looking bass is it an F bass? I'm just guessing that from the body (bass) shape
  8. Yeah I was thinking of doing exactly the same thing with my recently acquired SS1 £95 isn’t too bad, but what would make it more attractive is if I could get a buyer lined up for the gold hardware before I bought the black stuff. I think the gold hardware looks ok though, and it actually quite compliments the lightness of the natural finish.

    Drum machines

Can you not programme any drum machine to do that? Maybe I've missed the point of what it's doing, but you can programme any drum machine to do anything if you've got the perseverance, but that sounds like some fairly simple programming that shouldn’t take longer than a couple of minutes. I remember in my second year of college I had to programme a drum machine that could only be set up in 4/4 timing to play a 5 minute song with a 7/8 beat - now that took a bit of time, but I done it.
  10.
Bump
Is this still around mate, and if it is would you consider selling the case on its own? A bit of an odd question I know, but a friend of mine has a Jag that he can’t get a case for.
  11. when are you leaving notts? I use a Yamaha Clavinova as my MIDI input device but due to space that may end up going into another room so I could probably do with something small and basic to get down basic ideas quickly...just let me know how long you're going to be in notts for and I'll see if I'm able to come and collect
  12. I'll sell for £80 to anyone who is able to collect from Derby or Portsmouth (but you will have to let me know before Saturday if you want to collect from Portsmouth)
  13.
I think maplins only sell lead free solder. I personally found it a pain in the arse to use - it was like pushing mercury around. I found some flux cored 60/40 lead solder from Robert Dyers and it was so much easier. just don't eat it apparently
yeah I bought some lead-free stuff and it was shyte
  14.
Having said all of that b*llocks, have you ever used pro tools HD24 with a control 24 interface? That's a pretty sweet setup! So easy to use, and the pre-amps are amazing!
Yeah man, ProTools HD is what I’ve used for almost all the recording I’ve done over the last 4 years. The control 24 is getting on a bit now, but that’s what I mean about the dedicated interfaces. The new DigiDesign interfaces are incredible. This is getting a bit off topic now though.
  15.
I think that's not necessarily the case, and even if it was, it would be unjustified considering the competition out there.
not had much experience with professional studios or ProTools then? Just the lack of dedicated interfaces for any other software makes ProTools a favourite for pro’s, let alone the quality of the product.
  16.
Only thing that puts me off is how easy will pro tools be? I'd like to spend my time perfecting my ideas, not getting frustrated with the software! My PC is well up to the job - Dual core/2GB RAM currently not doing anything as it's the fourth PC in the house and hasn't been switched on for 3 months.
Yeah I can see that being an issue if you’re a newbie to recording. It’s simple software though when you get used to it and it’s incredibly powerful. The Mbox packages come with a tutorial DVD so it shouldn’t take you long to get used to it. When it comes to the best, ProTools is the standard and it’s so cheap when you think it’s thrown in with an audio interface for £160.
  17. if you've got a half decent computer then get an Mbox Mini with ProTools LE 7.4 for about £160 from ebay. Amazing value for money for the industry standard in digital recording.
  18.
£25 well spent... and cheaper than 10 mins of a luthier's time. Actually they are in their current sale at £20 so that's even better... Maplins Gas soldering iron in the sale £20
going a bit off topic - how long does the gas last and how much does it cost to refill it? Wireless soldering is very appealing
  19.
I bought Finbars Valve head, and im already regretting the weight. BUT ive never heard of anything like it!
I’ve had an Ampeg all valve rig for just over 2 months and it sounds so gawdamn good, but it almost weighs more than I do. I’m so tempted to go down the lightweight route after almost breaking my back every time I have a gig or take it to the studio. The only reason I wouldn’t do it is because (a) I wouldn’t want to lose money on my rig, and (b ) I’ve not heard enough of the lightweight stuff to judge whether it sounds as good as my Ampeg rig.
I got mt SVT-Cl today and man its heavy, got to replace the preamp valves and get a service done. cant wait to hear the sound thru a Dr Bass cab.
That’s what I’ve got I run it through the SVT410-HLF cab and it’s pure ear sex! There’s no other way of describing the sound of a good Warwick being played through that rig, it’s just complete unadulterated and uncompromising ear sex!! BUT…when I put it in the flightcase I can’t carry it further than about 10 meters by myself
  20. I just found this pic of a 'normal' bass with an Ashbory double neck add-on mod... i thought it was pretty funny - just going to post it in the "weird and wonderful..." thread... EDIT: On closer inspection this looks like a very crude photoshop pic...oh well, good concept anyway.
  21. In my experience and if I remember correctly (acronyms would have looked ridiculous there ), the grounding to at least 4 of my basses has gone from the back of one of the tone or volume pots. I’ve never seen grounding going from the jack input before, but theoretically it should work from the jack anyway. If you look at the back of the tone pot I’ve circled you can see the grounding wire running from the tone pot through to the bridge in my Warwick Thumb. This is the only grounding solution I’ve come across (ie – not from the jack). If it’s come loose then it would literally be a 2 min job to solder it back on (and 1min 50 seconds of that would be waiting for the soldering iron to heat up ). Seeing as you don’t have an iron I would suggest you buy one and a small reel of solder and have a go yourself. Something like this can be very easily re-done if you manage to cock it up completely and it’s also likely to be much cheaper than getting a ‘pro’ to do it because you can pick up a soldering iron and a bit of solder for under a tenner from maplins, then you’ve obviously got the gear to do some soldering again in the future. If you’re not confident with soldering then have a look at a few online guides, but there’s really nothing to it. I’d definitely suggest you give it a go yourself though rather than paying someone else to do a very simple job. Every muso should own a soldering iron
  22. he's just offered it to someone for £110 posted!!!! if anyone is interested im sure they can have the same deal if the other guy is stupid enough to turn this deal down...i think he's giving it away for that price though
  23.
i remember a thread a while back about players who do or dont use their little finger (i do) i dont use my middle finger, anyone else the same?
The middle finger on my right and left hands are vital. I do use all my fingers on my left hand and my index and middle on my right, but I find that for me my middle finger on my left hand is pretty key. I’d find it so hard to play without any of my fingers on my left hand, but almost impossible without my middle! How do you manage it?! It’s almost pretty impressive that you do manage it EDIT: I think where I said – “. I’d find it so hard to play without any of my fingers on my left hand” – could sound a bit stupid, like I was saying that I’d find it hard to play with no fingers  What I really mean is that I’d find it really hard to play if I were to lose any finger from my left hand…I’m crap at explaining myself
