I don't know wy but 1st basses usually have the most character and also have the best stories behind them.
I don’t really consider my actual first bass to be my first bass…my first proper bass was a Warwick Streamer Std passive 4 string, and it’s still f***ing great I played it for about 4 hours a day every day for about 2 years. I’ve smashed the headstock on that twice, and its been fixed twice, and it still plays great. I’m never going to get rid of that bass, its true love

i sold mine for 24 carling and a packet of fags. It was a cheap P bass copy but it had a nice sunburst finish. i kind of wish i still had it, oh well.
Not thinking of buying it then Ben?
haha only if he offers me £50 cash in my hand to take it away otherwise it's doubtful on a semi-serious note – if the seller’s a studio who is getting rid of a lot of gear then surely they know it’s not a hybrid, and if they genuinely know sh*t all about this amp then 5mins of google research could be worthwhile rather than guessing or making a sweeping claim that it might be an all valve combo or a hybrid based solely on the fact that he looked in the back and saw something like might have looked a bit like something that could have possibly represented the shape of a valve…shocking from people who should know better IMO.
Is it really that big a deal?
Well only if hermonp wants to possibly help his sale by telling other members about himself – perhaps building a rapport with other members on the site which would then give people a certain amount of confidence to deal with him. After doing this, he (im guessing it’s a he – Hermon P?) might enjoy the friendly banter of the forum and feel like becoming a regular contributor. If not, then oh well…I wont lose any sleep over it, just a bit of advice

now this must be a BC record - starting a for sale thread 2mins after joining! wow, kind of impressive...there was one at 3mins the other day - 50% longer after joining than this one, good effort I say. There is an introductions subforum though, why not say hello? after all, this isn’t just a fee free ebay
Here's my current rig: Which consists of my 3 swr 2x10 cabs, my swr sm400s stereo head, with my behringer compressor.
nice SWR tower – do you prefer the 3 2x10 cabs instead of a single 6x10? i suppose your rig is better to chop and change for the circumstances though? small rig for small gigs and add more cabs for larger gigs etc…
Just followed the thread and i'm really glad you got your amp in the end! Though to be honest, sound control or whatever it's called is somewhere i'm never going to spend large amounts of money again down to my own personal experience, their terrible customer service and other horror stories such as your own. And the fact that they won't be re-opening in nottingham, thank god. I think they should have gone down for good to be honest, i met about one good employee working for them in the three years i'd been visiting it.
Whatever company took over the Manchester/Salford branches should get some well deserved praise for dealing with this situation in the way they did though. It would have been easy for them to turn around and tell Sam to f*** off. In all honesty, the people who were responsible for sorting the amp situation out could have been ex-employees of SC and which ever company has taken over these branches could have kept on the same staff…it’s a possibility, and in which case not all SC employees give terrible customer service, quite the opposite in this case. My own experience of SC wasn’t all bad – I haggled some good deals out of them in the last few years. I’m not having a go at you at all though mate cos I know quite a few people who have had run ins with SC staff when customer service has been the issue. I’m just trying to make the point that the people responsible for sorting the amp out should be praised rather than slated (because they could have been old SC staff), if you know what I’m saying

"VALVE - a couple of people have pointed out that this might not strictly be fully valved, generally it is agreed this is a hybrid, by that a solid state amp with a valve stage for some extra colouring. I've reduced the price to reflect this new information" who agreed that this was a hybrid?? What a numptie
well its been a very successful day. having gone to the salford sound control the new manager there was incredibly helpful and let me take away the ashdown head that had been sitting in the manchester city branch for these past few months. He could have just kept it i mean he was in his rights, so im rather pleased. Finally got my amp!! hurrah if anyone is in that area i would recommend it!
good result and im really pleased for you mate
Any idea of the weight?
Numark quote it as 14Kg (31 lbs) - that sounds about right from picking it up as well. Some copy and paste specs from the Numark site: Rated Power Output: 650W RMS @ 2 Ohms, 1KHz, 1% THD per channel (stereo) 475W RMS @ 4 Ohms, 1KHz, 1% THD per channel (stereo) 300W RMS @ 8 Ohms, 1KHz, 1% THD per channel (stereo) 1300W RMS @ 4 Ohms, 1KHz, 1% THD (mono bridged) 930W RMS @ 8 Ohms, 1KHz, 1% THD (mono bridged) Total Harmonic Distortion: Less than 0.002% Input sensitivity & Impedance: 1.0 V RMS (0 dBV) Hum & Noise: 100 dB, unweighted Power Consumption: 10A @ 120V AC 120V/60Hz or 220V/50Hz switchable Frequency Response: 10Hz-40kHz, +/-1 dB Dimensions (H x W x D): 3.5" x 19" x 15.9" 88mm x 483mm x 405mm Weight: 31 lbs. 14kg. EDIT: They quoted the height at 880mm but I used a bit of common sense to work out that some numptie at Numark put a zero at the end of 88mm for no reason at all. -
Which is the best of the cheaper end Warwick's to buy??
I used to own an older passive Corvette Std in ash with the wenge neck. I got it used for £300 and it was terrific. imo a much better bass than the streamer Std I owned a little later.
the wenge neck does make a massive difference IMO to the feel of some Warwicks, but I owned a pretty standard Corvette Std for about a year after i bought the Streamer Std and got rid of it because I didn't like it or use it as much. Maybe it was the shape of the body (I've never really got on with the Corvette shape) but also it was worth more than the Streamer Std so I cashed in on it. Saying this, I played a Corvette a couple of years ago that had a wenge neck and active pickups and it felt and sounded great, I cant remember if this was a Std though. -

Which is the best of the cheaper end Warwick's to buy??
Dubs replied to Wooks's topic in Bass Guitars
The best cheap Warwick would be a Streamer Std – not a rockbass, it’s a proper Warwick. I bought one new in 2003 for £360. It was the single pickup 4 string passive version and I still use it loads. It’s great You can pick them up used for between £150 and £200 (maybe cheaper), and they done them with a 2 pickup configuration as well that I’ve seen going for that sort of price as well. I’d stay clear of the rockbasses, but that’s just me -
