I know what though, if I see something on ebay I like the look of I will post it here and let you guys have a look before making any bids.
...and risk the chance of being outbid by a fellow BCer Yeah it is a good idea to get some sound advice about fleabay auctions though. There would have to be something very special and at a good price for me to consider using ebay again after my own experiences, the horror stories about ebay that have been published on this forum, and the new regulations they've brought in with regards to paypal.
I think what I really didn't like about the PodXT (live anyway, which is what I had) were the foot controls, too easy to hit the wrong button and you could only use one button at a time, with stomp boxes you can just stomp anywhere in the general location of the switch and hit it, with the PodXT you've got to be really precise, and screwing up hitting the wrong button can have dire consequences (especially with the iffy volume levels on the PodXT series).
it's probably just about getting used to it, if it wasnt about the sound then a little perseverance may have been quite rewarding. It's been the basis of my setup for almost 3 years now and I've not has any issues with the foot controls.
I thought the same until I bought a proper distortion box, I found PodXT to be by far better for recording than playing live in sound and usability.
Ive got a few (about 8) separate fuzz pedals and the Pod XT is definitely on the level, and dare I say it but it's even better than a few that I personally rate. I use my separate pedals with the Pod and find that they're a great addition to the Pod effects, but the Pod fuzz is great. I'm not saying it's the best fuzz you're ever going to hear but it's a lot better than some bass specific pedals that I've used (and owned in some cases) that are retailing for well over the £100 mark. It's all about spending the time to get the best out of it though - RTFM!!! I've had some issues recording with the Pod though (noise from the jack DI) so i find it more useful for live work, and very useful at that. In an ideal world I'd have £2k to spend on building a pedalboard that will do what the Pod does (and no doubt better), but at the moment I'm happy to settle for the Pod XT Live (+ a select few separate pedals) that does and awful lot in a convenient package.
MB1. Hello Ben did you buy this from flightcase direct?,if you did might be easier/cheaper asking them to change it.Dont go for a Warwick Rockcase unless you like recovering cases, which i have just done.Glad to hear the Ampegs still shaking your pants and keeping you and your drummer regular!
Cheers for the idea Martin, I got in contact with the Flightcase Warehouse and they said they can only do me £69.99 credit if I return it in perfect condition (and obviously at my own expense) despite it costing me £89.99 – great returns policy, do you think they’re having a laugh or being serious? It’s hard to tell… -
John Deacon wrote a bit for Queen – a few classic hits as well including "You're My Best Friend" and "Another One Bites the Dust"

i can get get a good fuzz out of my XT Pod Live - both subtle boost and full on punch in the face stylie. With multi fx pedals i think it's just about perseverance
Still doesn't smell right to me. I am a long time drummer and bass player, but didn't know the term "lawsuit Japanese copy" until I came here. If he knew the plate was not from this bass, then why was he not saying so? Why try and say "it's serial number is 39xxx" if he know's it's not off this bass?
obviously a scammer who's trying to backpedal cos he's been found out, surely
If ebay arent going to pull it the only thing left to do is have a few ebayers bid battle it into some ridiculous price so no real bidders get stung and then refuse to pay on the grounds of that its been found to be a fake.
i don't mind bidding a million pounds for it - i never use my ebay account and i dont intend to ever use it again so bad feedback with mean sh*t all to me
However, if I had to point to some damning evidence, I'd say this might be it. It's the last purchase he's made, 11 June 2008. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=250249467610 His bass auction was posted 15 June. I don't now if he could've received the neck plate in time for those photos, but it all looks very questionable.
this is almost comical, and the only reason it's not is that he's trying to scam some poor sod. I've no idea when it comes to Fenders so I didn't spot any of the things that have been mentioned - the only thing that jumped out at me was the bridge pickup position, oh well.
if you are looking for sonic heaven (did i just say that) then go down bills route.
“Sonic Heaven” is subjective in itself, but I understand what you’re getting at. -------------- I tried to make the point in my last post that there’s a lot of subjectivity when it comes down to “what sounds best”, but either way I don’t think that anyone can reasonably deny or talk down the scientifically proven methods for efficient and effective cab design. Anyone that does is just a bit of an idiot and obviously lacking in any technical understanding of the mechanics of enclosure design.
-
very nice I'd love a bass with a bit of history - my oldest bass is only 8 years old! When i saw the title of this thread i just thought - I wish i had a 1976 Mustang like that!
-
I’ve done a small bit of enclosure design (nothing on the level of BFM and the enclosures I’ve been working on are passive subwoofer enclosures designed for very low frequency responses for cinema – ported enclosures with a tuning frequency of between 18 and 26Hz) so I understand there’s a lot that you can do ‘wrong’ when it comes to getting the scientifically ‘perfect’ enclosure response or even the ‘perfect’ sound, but I think there’s a certain amount of charm in the sound that is produced from the poorly designed cabs of the past (and present). In my mind these are the ‘classic’ bass or guitar sounds that often people spend a lot of money on recreating. I’ll take the example of the Fender Twin (guitar amp) – I’ve no doubt it’s a properly sh*t design on a technical level, but the sound it produces is iconic which is the same for the classic open backed AC30 etc… For bass I’d use the example of an SVT 8x10 from the early 70’s – this sound is still sought after regardless of whether the cab is efficient or produces a ‘correct’ sound from a technical perspective. I think it’s great that there seems to be a lot more thought going into cab design in recent years, but I don’t think there’s any problem with people using a cab configuration that sounds good to them or suits the style of music they play. I’m firmly on the proverbial fence with this one as I can appreciate a good enclosure design and I’m a bit of an audiophile when it comes to Hi-Fi, but I also like the sound of classic guitar amps and I strongly believe that when it comes down to music people should use what sounds good to them – it’s so subjective though. Occasionally I let it be known that I’m not a fan of certain gear, but I’d tend veer away from telling someone that they fundamentally shouldn’t use a bit of gear because in my subjective point of view it sounds crap – I’ve done it a few times though
I'm not aware of the legalities, but i'm pretty sure you're wrong. I think some lawyer on the board even posted a message to this effect on a different thread concerning the same topic.
Damn, well if there’s nothing legal (as such) that can be done then I’d be tempted to phone the police and tell them I’ve been robbed and explain the situation I’m surprised sam88 seems relatively happy to lose his £600 in this way, but either way I think it’s a bit of a joke if the amp is sitting in the shop but he just can’t get to it - unlucky
-
Legally though surely he owns the amp if he's paid for it in full and has the receipt to prove this, and as tauzero says, this has to be regardless of its physical location. I'd take tauzero's advice and speak to the police about it but citizens advice is always a good place to start and they were very helpful with me when I had some issues about returning a 37” LCD TV a few months ago. Their website has loads of advice about many different consumer predicaments - http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk – find something relevant and maybe quote some applicable legislation or retail law in a strongly worded letter to the administrators in charge of the SC issue. I wouldn’t bend over and take it just because they sent you one letter saying that they didn’t owe you anything.
MB1. Hello Ben! Think Tayste 2000 is the only guy on this forum with enough pedals to fill that one!(think hes still got a boss pedalcasefor sale for 3 boss pedals, depends on how small you wanna downsize?) Best Wishes! Martin.
Cheers mate. I think I’m looking for something that’s of a similar style to this massive one, like a solid and sturdy flightcase (or similar) and with the freedom to position my pedals in the arrangement that I want (which I don’t think the Boss cases will allow you to do). I’ve also got quite a few pedals that are no the same shape as the Boss ones , so realistically I don’t think a Boss case would be much use. Ideally I need the case I’ve got to be half the size, that would be perfect Cheers for the heads up though mate – the Ampeg is still kicking ass BTW -
MONSTER!,MONSTER!,MONSTER!.....Whats the Rent?
funny you should say that...I've just watched Cloverfield. As for rent - based on London prices I'd say I could probably expect to achieve about £750 PCM, maybe £800 if I turn on the old south coast charm If we take things a bit further up north, like Derby for example, I’d expect it to drop to around £3.50 or £4 PCM maybe if I’m lucky. In any case I’m not really looking to release it on a letting deal, I’d much prefer to set up a part exchange arrangement (+ cash) with someone looking to expand their current pedal dwelling as I’m actually looking to downsize considerably. All offers considered on this very spacious, fully furnished, and ideally located pedalboard…did I mention the view? -
ive got be honest and say that the "mint green" one just looks like plain white to me, how about anyone else? I've no doubt it's just the pic though
What was surprising though is how far superior the bottom end on the 2 X 10" Omni 10 is compared with the 15" MAG cab. I run the Omni 10 with totally flat EQ and the depth is better than the MAG combo ever was with the deep boost and a bit of the lowest EQ band added too. It certainly adds weight to the notion that bigger cones are a must for a deeper response.
Yeah there’s always a tendency to believe that larger drivers = lower frequency response…it’s just not the case. Frequency response is so dependant on the enclosure - I started explaining this once in another thread…

Just out of interest – how do the data minidiscs differ from the audio ones? I’ve got about 50+ audio minidiscs from back in the day when they were numero uno for portable audio and I remember thinking at the time “why don’t they make a MD drive for PC? That would be so good!”, but it seems they did and in its short life it passed me by?

sometimes i think I've posted something but actually it didnt post at all and the site crashes on me...this happens quite a lot and I think it’s an issue with the site rather than me/my computer/my connection. I've learnt to copy my post before i click to add it so if anything does f*** up i can just paste and do it again, easy. I’ve ended up posting the same thing 4 times though when I think the page keeps crashing so I keep pasting and adding the reply…oops.
