1. I'd be tempted to replace and avoid any reoccurring issues. Have you looked at getting it cheaper from a third party dealer/distributer?
  2.
I have no idea what my Yin/Yan markers look like as I only ever see the side dots, I'm sure they look nice to the audience though
exactly, does anyone actually look at their board markers? The only markers i look at are the dots on the top and i do find them helpful, but I've never found myself to be in a playing position where i could actually see the board markers anyway. Neither of my 2 main basses have markers (Warwick Thumb BO and SS1) and there is literally nothing to get used to, you should take to it like a duck to water - i actually prefer the look of a blank fret board. EDIT - as long as there are side markers then you will have no problems
  3.
And to think, I nearly complimented you on that Big Muff and copy of Kid A in the photo you posted a day or so ago. You big meanie! seriously, though, I'm a hobby bass player. My MIJ Jazz (Ұ 75 000 when I bought it in Japan - about £350) is as good an instrument as I'll ever need. I like food, wine, travelling etc etc too much to invest heavily in something that I don't need.
Haha I was just pulling your leg It’s definitely a different priority for different people. I love music and bass so I don’t mind spending a relatively large amount (as long as I can realistically afford it) and almost all of my education has revolved around music/playing etc. If you could find your “dream bass” for £650 then that is a mega result in any case. PS – Radiohead are one of my all time favourite bands ever and the effects in that pics are only the ones that are out of favour at the moment (my other set up is close to the door downstairs as it gets taken out of the house all the time and it’s a pain in the arse to lug it up and down the stairs after every time I use it - I'm a lazy arse)
  4.
£650. And it would have to be a dream bass.
tight arse
For f***s sake, will somebody in Derby buy this lads cab, 400w at 8 ohms, that's a good speaker in there. Take the Carlsbro badge off when you've bought it, if that's the problem. Ben, I can't see why your head won't work with this cab, you can run an 8 ohm cab with an amp that goes down to 2 ohms, in fact you could use 4 x 8 ohm cabs.
I was going to suggest the de-badging if there’s gear snobbery going on (which I can definitely understand) To be honest I’ve not run the cab through my SVT-CL cos I didn’t want to risk blowing a tube or something (im not very techie when it comes to amps so I didn’t know what the risks were with doing it) It’s an absolute belter though and it will blow your nuts off if you put a lot of power through it. £70…it’ a f***ing steal
  6.
How much would you spend on a car? How much does that car depreciate compared to a bass? How much more pleasure do you get from playing your bass?
I’d agree with this point a lot. I’d feel happier spending more on a bass than a car, any day. If you bought a 2nd hand bass for £1500 then in 6 years time you wanted to sell it, you can guarantee that it’s very likely to have retained a lot of its value, however, with a car you can almost guarantee it’ll be worth sh*t all. That’s why I don’t feel too bad about spending cash I can’t necessarily afford on a bass because I know that if push came to shove I’d be able to get a lot, if not all of my money back on it. That’s just how my mind works though and how I justify it to myself (and my girlfriend), and I don’t own a car I probably should with some of the gear I own.
  7.
...but only after you've read the horror-stories about Vista drivers!!!
Haha that’s another error I’m still running XP with SP3 and it’s nice and smooth
£65 you got yourself a deal. i live in derby too
You’re cutting a hard deal for a lot of cab mate, just for my piece of mind I can’t go lower than £70 and that’s lower than I want to go already. You’re welcome to come and have a look at any time though, just PM me and we’ll arrange something… PS – My amp only runs at 2 or 4 ohms and it’s an 8 ohm cab so if you want to hear it then maybe bring a head with you if you can? I’ve got a long Speakon to Jack cable that I bought for it to run it through the Trace combo that’s in the pics, if you need it you can have it for a tenner (it cost me about £16 and it’s mint).
  9.
Warning!!! - at least two of the manufacturers of these computer interfaces are having significant problems with Mac firewire interface drivers (I'm not a techie)
The moral of this story is obviously dump the mac and get a PC
  10. it's almost painful watching this sit here @ £675 with no cash buyers trying to rip Perry's arm off... nicest stingray I've ever seen?...quite probably, yes.

i may as well give this f***er another bump ^^get your fat arse back up there^^
  12. That seems an awful lot for a SUB. I’ve not seen many Sterling SUB basses though, but £820??!!?!!??!
  13.
Waste of time. Your wrists and fingers were strong enough to play the bass when you were about 4 years old. You need grace not power.
Haha yeah right…my girlfriend is 22 and she struggles with it – it’s all about stamina. Ask a newbie bass player how long they can play without their wrists/fingers/arms and forearms aching. The PowerBall will develop your stamina for sure and maintain the muscles around your wrists, fingers, and arms that you’ve already built up from playing bass. You don’t have to stop playing for very long until your bass specific muscles deteriorate and become ‘normal’ and when this happens you’re gonna lose all the stamina that has allowed you to play 2 hour sets with no problem. The grace over power issue has surely got to be dependent on the style of music though. I’m definitely with you (and everyone else) on the sight reading though I wish I had used some of my free time a bit more productively whilst I was studying...oh well.
  14.
Hi everyone, I was thinking of a completely new idea for BassChat here... We've done all the "Bashes" and met up, traded, etc., and tried eachother's gear, but how about a Northern/Midlands based clinic (obviously folks from further afield would be welcome as well!) where we can all get together and share technical/playing experience & advice between us? I was thinking of approaching Dave Ryan at Electro Music in Doncaster and seeing if he'd be up for hosting it in the bass department. Any thoughts, anyone?
This sounds like a great idea, maybe more efficient in smaller numbers though - <10? I doubt anyone would have a problem with there being more than that but it could easily turn into a ‘Bash’ if larger number were to show up. Nothing bad with that though, maybe it could be a “Bass Bash Clinic” if lots of people wanted to go? Depending on where it is (as I’ve transport issues – no car) I’d be interested.
  15. get a PowerBall to keep your wrists strong...or just revert to an adolescent past time
  16.
Judas
Who? Me? Never I am partial to a nice Jazz bass and I’ve seen a few P’s that I love the look of but I’ve never played a P that felt nice.
  17. Great example of how little I pay attention to my guitar stuff (and generally Fender in general ) – I didn’t even notice this on the back of my MIM Tele and I’ve had it 4 years!! It’s a great guitar though and the neck feels really nice. This is a bit off topic but I actually prefer Fender guitars then basses…weird?
  18. Really glad to hear you’re loving it mate The SS1 is making me grin from ear to ear every time I use it and I’ve decided to use it tomorrow night at my gig. Thinking about it – I can’t see that my Thumb is gonna get much of a look-in anymore. It’s great to have a selection though
  19. a rack of 4 SVT2-Pro's with 4 8x10 cabs I agree with Buzz...you could probably get away with a 100W 1x10 combo for some pub gigs
  20.
to me warwicks have always smelt funny, never really got past that!!!
That’s the smell of the wax combined with some real wood ("The Sound of Wood") – their not some glossed over Fender don’t you know, they’re pieces of art
  21. on a serious note...my 2 main basses combined will retail at around £2500 then + all other musical instruments/gear that I own would probably be around £8000...so no, I'm not 'The One'
  22. I've got a de-fretted jazz copy...thats got to be worth at least 50 quid, am I in the club?
  23. I met up with Luke to trade my Stingray for his Streamer Stage 1. Proper top bloke, honest, modest, and generally all round good geezer I’d have no hesitations to deal with him again. I’ve just been playing the bass through my Ampeg rig mate and it’s completely blown my nuts off. It’s put a massive smile on my face and is the ultimate hangover cure – this is the first time today that I’ve not felt like I’m hanging out of my arse Beautiful bass, cheers mate.
  24.
FireWire is a far more robust interface for Mac audio.
it's also quicker - theoretically slower than USB2.0 but actually a lot quicker due to the way it works out how to send the data – therefore you can send more data (channels of audio) down a firewire cable than USB
  25.
Some of the best cheap audio interfaces suitable for that are the Motu 8pre and the Presonus Firepod.
You’re still looking at around £350 with that though. You can pick up an Mbox mini with ProTools LE 7.4 for about £160 brand new from ebay.
