ive never used an effects loop  is this a bad thing? I've always gone - Bass > many effects > amp > bleeding eardrums of unsuspecting band mates/crowd

id probably have this if i were within collecting distance...it wouldn’t cost much to carpet it

Just bought mike's BNX3 that he got from MB1 that also came with the EHX case that went to rayfw Smooth dealings I would have no probs with buying from him again. (that's now 2 bits of gear bought through this forum that was at some point owned by MB1 )

IMO the little big muff is the best 'new' muff you can buy (that is of course not taking into account the new 'Bass Muff' as it's not even out yet). I use one and it's great with the tone and drive backed off a bit - it keeps the low end so well and gives a dirty fuzz with nice harmonic content. I've never experienced the relative volume of the muff to drop when it's activated though - maybe yours is dead? or maybe you need to just back off the wireless output or something? What’s the issue with turning down the output on the wireless receiver?
I really want a Tech21 VT Bass from the US, especially as they'll be around £150 when they arrive here and are only $150 over there. It's meant to kick the arse out of the regular Sansamp tonewise. I've been trying to get one delivered but everywhere's out of stock until July. In fact, if she can find any get her to grab as many as possible and sell them onto us lot for a small profit!
After a small bit of ‘desktop research’ the VT Bass has me really interested now. Are you talking about the character series one? I don’t know if there’s another type because I’ve never looked into these before…what’s the difference in this compared to the ‘regular’ SansAmp? This is what Tech 21 have to say about it - http://www.tech21nyc.com/character_series.html Thanks for the idea – at the moment this is #1 on my hit list

Hi everyone. My sister's going to New York for a holiday this summer and I want her to pick me up a pedal that would be quite rare and expensive to acquire this side of the pond. I’m going to give her about $150 to $200 but I’ve got no real idea of what I want her to get me. Has anyone got any ideas? I’ve thought about a Pickle Pie Bass maybe but I’ve already got a sh*t load of fuzz. Maybe it doesn’t have to be a pedal – some sort of cool bass related gadget? I just really want to take advantage of her going over there and getting me something cheaper than it would cost here as our transatlantic counterparts are lucky enough to enjoy a drastically reduced RRP on loads of American made gear.
what would happen if I were to just get a lead with a guitar jack on one end and a headphone one on the other, and stick it straight from the headphone socket of my amp to the mike input of the computer? would that sound very bad or just slightly bad?
that works, I've done it many times before, rubbish sound though EDIT - just a rubbish sound, not very rubbish - the good thing about that stealth plug is that it comes with some good basic software including a couple of amp modelling plugins and "a full recording studio" - whatever the f*** that means

On the same sort of note…I’ve been trying to sort out my SV-CL head to replace the fan with a ‘silent’ one for a while now but it is quite unclear as to how I would get to the fan that’s positioned right at the front. Does anyone else own one and know how to get to the fan? Anyone with any advice? It’s not bothering me too much so I’m rather disinclined to pay a pro for their expensive time to do the job for me as the job is a very simple one…if only I could get to the bloody fan!
yet it would seem they are rarely recommended.
I wouldn’t mind only playing Warwick’s for the rest of my life – recommendation enough? I’m not into 5 stringers so I’ve never owned one but I’ve played a few and IMO they feel nicer than other 5 string basses I’ve played. I find it hard to believe people when they say “I don’t like Warwicks” because I always think “have you actually played any Warwicks?” cos I think they’re great and can’t really understand what there is to not like about them

i think this negative feedback says it all: Item sent was not item in the auction.
Bump - this should have sold by now. Bargain.
Cheers mate. I’m almost thinking of withdrawing it depending on finding somewhere to store it because I know it’s almost definitely going to come in handy sometime down the line, and £70 for a 400W cab is so generous even if I do say so myself
Doesn't some Ampeg gear benefit from stuffing foam in the cups on top of the cabs and standing the amps on that?
That's a good idea and I might try it, although I've never been too worried about vibrations causing any damage to amps/valves. If it was an issue then I’d guess that older amps such as the Ampeg "Classic" all tube heads from the 70's would have shown the most damage so I presume that Ampeg (as well as other manufacturers) would have included design features on newer amps to combat this. Seeing as they haven’t then I’d presume that it’s not a huge deal.
What kind of volume are you talking about here? for instance i use a Hartke 350watt and have never gone above four on the volume dial. i have a feeling you are talking venues a bit bigger than pubs though.
Possibly, but not necessarily. You can get stuck in a bass trap where the lower frequencies are dramatically exaggerated. I’ve had it when I’ve been practising with a 150W Fender combo. EDIT: It generally happens when I’ve got my Ampeg rig cranked a bit though
-
I get this quite a lot – when I’m gigging or practising with a loud rig behind me flapping my trousers all over the place my eyeballs have a tendency to resonate inside their sockets so everything goes blurry and it makes me dizzy. I quite like it It’s funny trying to read what patch I’ve got selected on my Pod because you can’t read sh*t unless it’s in foot-high writing

i can see what the OP is getting at but i dont know if i would have gone as far as bidding on the item "to stop someone else getting ripped off" and then start a thread about it on BC. This sort of thing is pretty common though isnt it, so if someone gets scammed by it then let it be a lesson to them. If someone was to get scammed £37 for a book when they thought they were getting a guitar starter pack then it's not the end of the world. The fact the seller has "0" feedback would alert anyone with any kind of common sense to take a closer look at the listing and if it was expensive then you should get in contact with the seller directly anyway to possibly create some sort of rapport just for the sake of piece of mind. this is just another example of why i avoid ebay as much as i avoid trapping my nob in my flys after i take a piss
hi people. I have a johnson stingray copy and i hate ( and i mean hate ) the shape of the headstock, its the ugliest thing i"ve ever seen, i was wondering if i could have it reshaped to the more tradditional shape without weakening the headstock itself, my uncle is a joiner with 40 years experience behind him so could do the job no problem, if it can be done successfully then i would keep hold of the guitar and have it upgraded with better pickups etc. any advice would be greatly appreciated. I"ve added a photo of the headstock to show you the shape.
hi mate, did you reshape it in the end? I've got an AXL Jazz copy with the same shape headstock and I'm thinking about doing something about that as well - what kind of shape did you go for and how successful was it?
there is no difference, rig wise, to tuning a 4 BEAD and using a 5 with low B.
Yeah because the issues are with reproducing the low frequencies from the B so it doesn’t matter if the G is there or not.

That description has got to be the worse and most confusing I’ve seen in a long time. I read it 4 times and I still don’t really have a grip on WTF he is trying to say. What a numptie

The Ampeg SVT410-HLF was specifically designed to handle lower bass frequencies from a 5 string (low B ). That might be a good starting point? It’s not all about the size of the driver, ie – the tendency to believe that a 15” driver will produce a lower frequency than a 12” or 10”. It’s all about how much air it can move (volume – obviously also depends on the power of the amp) and the internal volume of the enclosure (cubic feet/meters) + the diameter and length of the ports (frequency response and tuning frequency – that’s if it’s a ported enclosure though ). If you’re looking to keep the lowest of the low frequencies that the B is going to be producing then look at the specs of any potential cabs and check out the frequency response and the drop off – the SVT410-HLF has a frequency response of 48Hz – 18kHz @ a -3dB drop off and the “usable low frequency “ is 28Hz @ a -10dB drop off. The term “usable” is subjective though, but a drop off of only -10dB @ 28Hz for a bass cab is pretty damn impressive. When you’re looking at the specs for other cabs and they’ve not stated where they’ve measured the drop off for the frequency response from then generally take it as -3dB because for the manufacturer that’s good practise/industry standard, but there’s a slim chance that this may not be where they’ve measured it from. As for amps – it shouldn’t really make a difference as long as it’s reasonably powerful (300W RMS @ 8ohms +). You need to have a good amount of power for the drivers to be able to produce the lower frequencies. Other than that it’s just going to be down to your personal preference of what tone you prefer because a 400W Ampeg is as powerful as a 400W Genz Benz or Mark Bass or EBS etc…. Frequency response is hugely dependent on the enclosure (cab) though. Oops – I’ve written a bloody essay! Didn’t mean to go on for that long and you’ve got to take some of the things I’ve said with a pinch of salt – I’m not a speaker engineer but these are just some things I’ve picked up from designing Subwoofer enclosures with my housemate and I’ve tried to translate it to bass cabs.
