I'm looking at that one and thinking those pickup covers really let it down... and tuners at both ends??? that's really going to make getting strings for it difficult...
I think it’s an 8 string but the different sets of strings are tuned at opposite ends…if that makes any sense? Looks amazing, unique is the word I’m looking for. -
I’d imagine that this is absolutely perfect for carrying on the underground. Great solution to this problem as well. Maybe Andy needs to go into full scale production I reckon these amps could be very popular if the word spread that this was available. There’s got to be loads of people needing an answer like this to the woes of transporting gear on public transport. It sounds like a great idea anyway and I’m eagerly anticipating some kind of review…
Stamping on a Big Muff and drowning everybody else out with lush fuzzy harmonics probably wouldn't go down too well in the middle of worship.
+1 I might have overlooked this

hmm...fuzz it up my friend. If you want the ultimate then IMO you should go for a ZVex Woolly Mammoth, but their pricy. Try out a few bass specific Fuzz pedals, the new EHX range looks very interesting - the Bass Big Muff should be great. If you want something really cheap and chearful and available right now then go for a Little Big Muff. IMO their great for bass and give a really dirty fuzz (which i love) with top end definition as well as maintaining a lot of the lower frequencies. Each to their own though, but I’d say get a fuzz, maybe not one I’ve suggested but a Fuzz or OverDrive are typical first pedals. There’s others on here that know a lot more about effects than I do so I’m sure you’re likely to get some more advice on this.
Yup, that's the kiddie. If there's sufficient interest, I may build a small batch of these amps. I haven't calculated a final price yet, but it's likely to be around £400. Andy
Very interesting, it looks tiny and 400W @ 4ohms is very impressive for something of that size. Class D is definitely the way to go for keeping the size and weight down. I suppose you could do it a bit cheaper with a small PA amp that’s been bridged to mono and that’s likely to give you more power for less money, but obviously would be at least 3 to 4 times bigger, maybe more. My housemate recently bought a 2U PA amp that’s 1.3KW @ 4ohms when it’s bridged for £160 brand new. It’s not that big in general terms for the power output, but it’s about the size of an SVT3-Pro so it’s pretty gigantic in comparison to your amp. I’d love to have a handy little amp that’s as powerful as yours, but at £400 it’s a luxury that I can’t really afford at the moment. It looks great though and I’d love to hear how it sounds when it’s finished. Are you planning on using it with a bass specific preamp of some description?

looks like a fantastic little build. If you don't mind me asking - how much did all the parts cost? Not that I'm likely to build one myself but I'd just be really interested to know how much a build like this is likely to cost. EDIT - Is this - http://www.coldamp.com/opencms/opencms/col...ive_speaker_30/ - the 'kit' that you're using @ 250 Euros?

What would you pay for the right bass/tone?
Dubs replied to john_the_bass's topic in General Discussion
i love the feel of fresh strings though, i can play faster with freshens on . My bass sounds alright with 'old' strings on but you can't beat the feel and tone of fresh strings IMO £15 5 or 6 times a year doesn’t really break the bank. I only do this on my main bass though and all the others get the boiled up 'old' strings. -
I have never changed the strings on my main 4-string in nearly 3 years
:O:O *shock horror* I change my strings like i change underwear – almost as often anyway, but you get what I’m saying. No longer than 2 weeks without at least a good old boil up and then a fresh set at least every 8 to 10 weeks. -

I'd say that if you can afford it and you love the tone/sound of a rig/bass then just go for it, it's only money at the end of the day - it comes and goes. The "perfect" setup is priceless IMO so if you ever find it then you should deffo just go for it and sod the cash. -
Does the sound of your bass make you go, "OH YES!"?
Dubs replied to OutToPlayJazz's topic in General Discussion
The first time I heard my Thumb through my Ampeg rig I almost done a little wee with elation and pleasure. It is a sound that makes me weak at the knees and one that more than justifies the price of a good Ampeg all-valve rig as well as the ticket price of good Warwicks. -
Bass Big Muff :brow: more fuzz...at the moment I have a pedal board that is just fuzz, and that's not including the fuzz I use on my pod
never let your missus persuade you to let go of gear because 'there just isn't enough room'
haha you got suckered into that old one then...unlucky. Were moving into a new place soon and she thinks some of my gear is going in the garage...NO CHANCE!
Don't you just love it when you let them borrow your bass amp for a gig to get them out of a tight situation, and they don't even say thanks, let alone give you even a tenner for it? what a twat, he'd better hope he's not in need of one again because he's sure not getting mine!
Damn, he sounds like a right w***er. I wouldn’t lend him anything again. When i was younger (15-18) i didn’t have a good amp so I'd always end up using one of the other bands gear when i was playing gigs, and when i bought a good Trace combo i didn't really want to let others use it but i kind of felt that i needed to pay back all the times i had used others equipment so i let other bass players use it and never really had any issues and everyone was polite about it. Now I've got a very expensive Ampeg rig i feel the complete opposite to this and there is no chance anyone else is using it, no chance at all
OK, the only option is to use a straplock and then Gaffer it all to the bass.
that's what I was just about to say...damn it! It's the best way to go though if you don't want it falling off, but only do it with a cheap bass or if you're sponsored

Ok – well it arrived a while ago but I’ve just listened to it. The first 3 mins were painful, and I mean really painful, so painful in fact that I almost turned it off. It just sounded like some ultimate cheese funk muzak for hotel lobbies etc…but I’m glad I persisted with it because overall it’s a great CD and well worth the £3 “The Essential” is an amazing track (bar the first 3mins though, obviously ) Loads of great musical ideas and really interesting melodies going off all over the place, and it’s not just that twangy Mark King slap sound, there’s some great grooving finger bass lines. “I Feel Free” has a bit of that 80’s cheesy pop sound to it, but strangely I found myself getting into it. This is nothing like the sort of stuff I listen to but I think it’s a great ‘solo’ CD and shows how good a musician Mark King actually is and it has got to be a must for any bass player @ £3!!!

I don’t know how related this is but check out this guys home cinema set up – This is an 8x18 subwoofer home cinema set up. It must literally shake the foundations of his house.
Regardless of my views of your previous dealings/shennanigans with regard to the price of your bass, I've always thought you'd have been lucky to get £600 for a BO Thumb any way. Just an opinion but I'd consider eating humble pie and offering it to 'weeted' at a discount of at least the cost of his fuel (x2 if he has to come back to collect)!
I’d tend to agree. In any case I think you’re really going to struggle to sell this on BC now after what’s happened, not saying that you won’t sell it on here though. Either way, I’ve got a Thumb BO and it’s great – lighter and IMO easier to play then the NT Thumb – I’m going to get laughed at for saying that though -
Good grief, you're lucky you didn't decapitate someone! There's an interesting thought. If a chicken can run around for 10 seconds after you've chopped it's head off, how long do you reckon a drummer can maintain the beat under the same circumstances?
haha, good question. I'd love to try it out on drummer from a previous band I was involved with - never lend a drummer anything because you will never get it back

Damn, unlucky mate. I know better than to chuck around my pride and joy(s) I dropped a bass on stage once (Warwick Streamer) because the strap slipped off the button and I was gutted because the impact on the floor snapped off the screw on one of the machine heads, but probably more gutted that a pissed crowd of about 150-200 people laughed their tits off and took the piss for the rest of the gig. Ever since then I’ve been so careful with straps and stuff.

Do you think the seller know he's just given someone the bargain of the millennium? Crazy, I would have snapped that up if I'd seen it first.
