As has been said above, a decent band will get a good fee and won't need to consider a deal like this.

I'm talking covers here, but I wouldn't bother with a £100 + 10% deal, and I'd only consider it if I knew that the venue would put the work in to promote the night. A good band is worth the money if the venue turns it into a proper live music event. It's not for the band to always bring along their mates to subsidise the door/bar take. I've played for too many half arsed promoters to give a sh*t that they're losing money because the only people there are people that the band have brought along. Play weddings and private parties. More work but a lot more money.

When I was starting out my teacher used to teach me to improvise around scales so learning scales didn't become monotonous and boring and it was far more musically relevant than smashing up and down a load of scales. He taught me what worked well where and why it worked well. This moved me on leaps and bounds in my creativity in terms of writing bass parts for band stuff. If you don't know something exists, how can you use it as a creative tool...?

I think the question is too broad to get any usable data from it. It looks like you're trying to get the answers to 2 or 3 different things in 1 question.

GAS is over rated. I've not had any GAS for almost 18 months and I'm more content with my sound/gear than ever. Be happy with what you've got - the new 'must have' will not revolutionise bass playing or live up to the hype...

Good shout. If you look closely at the pattern of the wood, you can tell that the pics are of 2 different basses...

The only thing reassuring about that auction is the collection in person bit. 0 feedback seller, very poor pics for a high value instrument, poor description... Lovely bass though

If you don't ask you don't get. With instruments in music shops, I always see the marked price as meaning "offers around", and sometimes it works. If you just ask "what's the best price on this?" you may be surprised...

What is it you're looking to send without a hardcase? If it's cheap then take the neck off and package it in a small box with lots of bubblewarp.

The first ding on a bass is the most painful, but give it a month and you might be able to live with it. Act in haste with any DIY and you could f*** it up completely, so be prepared for that. I've used the damp cloth and iron technique on a natural finish Warwick, and that worked really well.
