It's a bit too far out of Southsea for me to make use of the 'free drink' situation and be able to drive home Sounds good though, might have to pop along some time...
I don't know what you're complaining about. I think it's fair of Korg to say that filling your tuner pedal with beer invalidates their warranty. For them to fix it FOC is an enormous gesture of goodwill, and I think that by coming on here and posting a complaint anyway, you're showing a deal of ingratitude. S.P.
Agreed. I don't get what the moan is about at all - this should be a thread celebrating the good customer service that you have received from Korg. TBH, I don't think I'd have the cheek to ask for a warranty repair if I spilt beer on it...

Cheers for the info guys, very interesting stuff. Ironically I've ended up going with the carcinogenic MDF over the ply, simply on cost. I've cheaped out, but the ply was going to cost me 3 times more than the MDF has cost me. Sacrifices have been made...
is this a dubs design ?
© Dubs 2010 - Not sure there's much 'intellectual' property in it though! That remains to be seen... Yeah those drivers do look really good. Hopefully it'll be the difference between a really average sounding cab and a pretty good sounding cab. Can't wait to get this finished off and see if it's got the legs for a full band practise!! Uzzell - there's not a lot of know-how involved when making a simple cab. A lot of it is a rudimentary understanding of what you're trying to achieve and then most of the hard work is done for you via the 'Thiele and Small Parameters' that are supplied with the drivers. There's a lot of info out there, just give it a go.

I decided I'd like an easily portable 1x10 cab that I can practise with and take to small jam sessions instead of my 4x10 TecAmp cab. In my usual DIY way I did a minimal amount of research before parting with cash for parts and taking a trip to B&Q. I originally planned to make it using plywood but I've ended up with MDF - cheaper and more rigid in thinner measurements (cheaper being the dictating factor), however, slightly heavier. I used 12mm MDF so I'll have to brace it slightly in some places. I drew some sketches and worked out some dimensions and measurements, then I got the wood cut: It will be ported with an internal volume of about 1.3cu.ft giving a nice resonant frequency of about 59hz. It should be able to kick out enough volume to be heard clearly with a drummer. I'll carpet it and finish it off properly. Should be finished by early next week pending the arrival of parts...
I ditched my Twin because it was heavy and unreliable, and went for one of the Fender/Boss modelling pedals... you couldn't tell the difference on tape.

Likewise, I ditched my Fender twin 4x10, expensive power soak, and all my effects and went for a POD. I can't tell the difference either, in fact I get sounds out the POD I prefer and i can taylor all of them to exactly how I want them. The POD is my Desert Island piece of kit.
Well, as seems to be the general consensus that is coming out of this thread, it's horses for courses. Personally, I'd never choose to play a gig with no backline, and I'd always prefer to record with real amps.
That's totally cool man, but why?
Because, IMHO, you cannot beat the real thing. If you have the chance to use a Fender Twin with a couple of nice 414s, why would you model it? With bass it's a bit different, but with guitar I'd always try and use the real thing.
Yes, they are both 1u. The DPC weighs 12 lbs (almost 5.5Kgs) The bass fex weight is 5lbs (about 2.25Kgs) yes...................... and price ?
Cheers for the info - looks like a good weight. As for price... there's a forum policy about listing things without a price.
your myspace has your equipment sharing policy on it! just show the promotor that.????
I think the idea of a publicised 'Gear Share Policy' on myspace is good and would go some way to solve a lot of these problems. It would let everyone know where they stand. Having said that, I'm making a massive assumption that people will generally have the common sense/courtesy to get in contact if they require any kind of equipment share - that's a fail right there.
I've done an EP and an album in a very good studio and only took my POD. At first the producer was very concerned and told me he wanted me to go through his lovely old compressors and DI with just the bass. He reckoned the POD's compressor would be no match for his old rack compressors. In the end we did three simultaneous recordings to three separate tracks, one his way, one POD dry output and one wet. he went with the POD on most of the songs. Next session I did there he admitted the POD was great.
Different strokes for differet folks. I'd never turn up to a session with only a Pod for guitar.
I use a Bass Pod as part of my rig, but its not to emulate any particular amps. I just look at it as a very versatile programmable pre-amp. I don't care whether or not the models resemble the "real thing" and TBH most of the time I don't really know what the amps that are being modelled are supposed to sound like. I just use the ones that give me the sound that I want with the bass that I am using.
That's exactly the way that I use my pod when I do use it. You're never gonna get an authentic Ampeg 8x10 sound through a pod that is going through a ported 2x12 cab, however, the sound that you do get may be fantastic and suit the style/band/venue etc...
-
I've done some listening tests on this and I can definitely tell with regards to guitar, but a very well programmed digital modeller does sound amazingly authentic. It's harder to tell with bass due to the nature of it. I think the digital modelling of valves can be very accurate but there really is no subsitute for micing up the real thing. For example, I would never go into the studio with my band with only a Pod... As for being able to tell if someone is using an Ampeg from outside the venue, I'll call BS on that every day of the week!
All this " you must be off your nut stuff" is in someways a bit harsh chaps!
It's just an opinion; the harsh reality of it maybe? I don't think the scenario you're detailing is the case here, however, I may be wrong (it's happened in the past ) Would you put yourself in the same position? I think there's a lot of exploitation going on here...
-
IMHO, you've got to be 'off your nut' to be going through all this stress with the knowledge that if everything goes really well and you sell out the venue you'll just about break even... I know it's not about money, but I wouldn't fork out £280 with the potential of only seeing £100 or so of it back, let alone be spending my money on equipment that I never intend to gig myself.
-
It's better to be asked in advance than be put in an awkward position on the night. I generally still say "no sorry, I won't lend it out to anyone" regardless of being asked in advance or not. It really f***s me off when you arrive at a venue and the promoter puts you in a position whereby it's pretty clear that if you don't lend your gear out then the other bands won't be able to play, and then somehow you're the dickhead when you say no...

Cheers for that I'm just being lazy and don't want to have to spend a lot of time with the jigsaw

Just wondering, is 12mm ply thick/ridgid enough to build a square cab with an internal volume of about 1.3 cu.ft without any bracing? ...or will I have to use 18mm? Just trying to keep the weight down as much as possible for a small 10" practise cab that I'm about to start building.

Really cool looking cabs!

I think our singer could be queezed through the marketability mould at Cowell HQ, but as for the rest of us, naaaaaaah.
