I'm always a bit funny about people playing my main bass, even if I say they can have a quick go. I've got a bit of a situation in my band cos the singer is also a bass player so thinks it's ok to play my bass sometimes when I put it down at practise. It can be really annoying because he's quite a sloppy/agressive player. With regards to amps, I don't mind people using my cab at all but it annoys the f*** out of me when someone assumes they can borrow your head/amp at a gig and then fiddles with all your settings and basically completely f***s up your sound. That makes me really angry and I've let rip at someone about it before...

Just been browsing the Musikding site - the Bass Amuser kit looks like an absolute mother f***er to build!

Good advice so far, thanks guys. Think we're probably looking at asking for £600 for this particular venue and the potential events that we may be asked to play at...

I'm after an idea as to what a reasonable rate to charge would be... I know it's kind of like "how long's a piece of string", but what should a client expect to get for: - £250 - £500 - £750 - £1000 - £1500 - £2000+ We went out for £450 on Saturday night and played a 45min set followed by a 55min set for a private party in a nice bar. It went down really well; we had a great crowd reaction and the client was really happy. The venue (events manager) then asked us if they could recommend us to clients from out of town who are also looking for a band to play at an event or private function. We agreed and left it open for them to contact us as and when, but the bottom line is that we're NOT a covers band; none of us want to do this regularly and we've only ever played functions and parties for friends or friends of friends who have asked for us personally and then agreed the fee depending on what they're asking for and the nature of the event. Basically we want to make it worth our while and would charge the top end of what's 'reasonable', otherwise we won't bother as we'd rather work on our originals. I know we've got a lot of seasoned players that have 'done the rounds' and have a wealth of info on this kind of thing, so I think this could also serve as a really useful thread for others who are in a similar boat... Depending on what bass it is, I'd be tempted just to leave it as it is... it adds to the mojo
