Cab arrived this morning... S.P.
Those cabs are looking great!

Glad to hear things are going well mate I’ve not made any progress with the Jazz body you sold me before you left though, mostly due to my laziness It's still a lovely bit of wood.

Has this gone on ebay then?
No for the "experts", a quick question. How many of you have actually owned, gigged/toured and recorded with Ampeg? If you have, then you can have an opinion, if not, then you know little or nothing about which you speak.
I have, but I’m so far away from being an “expert” that it’s probably not even worth mentioning… it sounded the shizz though (that's about as technical as I get ). I don't think anyone could say "that's definitely an Ampeg" about any bass sound. I can get a pretty realistic Ampeg sound from my BDDI going straight into the desk, and there are so many digital emulations around...
He's running in the pompous stakes and winning by a length.
I’m not sure about that, but he’s definitely winning in the fact vs opinion race…

I saw them as well - looks great, was just a bit out of my price range though.

This should now be residing with beerdragon…
There's a lot to be said for quietly getting on with it.
Then why don't you?
Remember though every time you see an Ampeg rig on a large stage its contribution to the overall bass sound both on stage and FoH is pretty negligible...
…as well as the fact that it’s probably there due to an endorsement deal or sponsorship. Ampeg love supplying the backline for large festivals etc…
Not me! Can I bring my Warwick down to you every couple of months pls?
Yes, my rates are very reasonable

I enjoy the waxing process, and the smell always makes me happy

The best sounding rig I ever had was an all valve Ampeg - SVT-CL - amazing sound. I just couldn't handle the risk of hernia or serious back injury every time I tried to move the f***er
but....but.....that's not fair! i'll give you 300 for it!
yeah it is pretty crazy, but this is my first eBay bargain having always paid pretty much exactly what my other gear has been worth or there abouts. I was worried that the seller was going to back out of the deal, but it all seems kosher at the moment...not gonna be 100% sure till it’s in my possession though
Hughes and Kettner are one of the few serious companies in the business. They have their own full-time electronics designers. They have their own in-house woodworking plant, which makes cabs for companies like JBL and others. They also build their own electronics, and last time I looked, were still making everything in Germany - unlike much of the rest who have shipped production (and jobs) to China. The guy in charge of production (and part owner of the company) has a PhD in horn design. I could go on... I have a lot of time for them and did once own a Fortress preamp and power amps, until a so-called friend borrowed it and disappeared. (Dougie McKendrick, where are you now?). Quality gear.
Thanks for the info. From the sounds of it they’re a great company and I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on this combo. I’ve heard a lot of great things about their guitar amps (especially the £2k + heads) but not a lot about the bass stuff, but from the sounds of things this QC421 is gonna be great.

I don’t get the whole “plug straight into the desk” approach. I’ve used a Pod XT Live for about 4 years now, and it’s a great bit of kit, but if it was a choice between a good backline or a Pod, the backline would always be my first choice.
i looked into them a while ago having had the Matrix Guitar combo. I don't think you will disapointed epsecially at the price you paid
Cheers mate. It looks like a great combo and powerful enough for anything I’m likely to use it for in the foreseeable future. I’m still amazed that no one else bid on it. I would have gone up to £300, but as it’s turned out I will have only spent about £210 (including shipping) on it when it arrives at my front door…
also, really interested to know what you think of the amp Ben, the more i look at it the more i want one.
I’ll get some pictures up and a mini review (I’m lazy) when I get my hands on it; I hope to have it by the end of the week - paid for it through PayPal yesterday but the guy seems to only check his emails once a day as communication has been a bit sporadic and slow.
i saw that one was tempted but my back said no!
My back said "hmm, not bad..." @ 29kgs! My old Trace combo was about 34kgs and that was heavy but not too much to handle, and this is lighter so it can't be a bad thing. My old SVT-CL in its flight case was probably over 45kgs on its own...

Thought I’d give this thread a nudge and see how the book is getting on…
A friend of mine is also interested in this locally and may be viewing it at the weekend - just a heads up for those who are still thinking about it, you may only have 24/48 hours left (I hope so anyway).
After an eventless weekend in terms of cab selling, this is still available to the first person that can put £500 cold hard notes in my hand I’m free most evenings if anyone wants to come over and give it a go – you’ll have to bring a head though as my Shuttle 6.0 now resides in Scotland.
How much then?
A gentleman never tells… Put it this way – I would have got change from the price of a second hand MIM P bass… I've not got my hands on the thing yet so I could be jumping the gun a bit...
don't know, never seen one before, but they look f**king nice! Grog from Die So Fluid plays though a H&K, and her bass tone is one of the best i've ever heard -- so they can't be that bad ^_^ always good to be a bit different
Cheers for that mate I've bought it completely blind but it was such a good price that it's definitely worth a punt. I'll have to check out that band and get a listen to her bass tone.

Opinions? Seen these retail online at £899; worth the cash? - what's a good second hand value? I've just bagged one on eBay and I think I've got an amazing deal on it, but only time will tell...

I played this live with a uni band. Such a great tune. I had a lot of fun learning it and it's a really satisfying line to play Good luck with it.
