I have also recently built the "This Belongs in a Museum", which is a LPB.
those box designs are very cool
2.
Try to source the Owen Bass Gremlin. Don't think you can get em anymore but they change hands on here for about £70. Very versatile pedals yet really easy to use, the best OD i've heard. Starting to regret selling mine now!
+1 I love mine, best 60 odd quid that I've spent in 2009.
3. sh*t man, really sorry to hear about your stuff getting stolen. Hope you find the f***ers that done it. Have you tried an EHX Little Big Muff? They’re very cheap, very aggressive, and full of rich harmonics in the upper mids. Worth a try if you can get hold of one to have a go on.
4.
i am afraid if i cant play fretless and the tone if is not right with those pickups
That’s a bullet you’re gonna have to bite I’d go for it mate. You don’t use the bass anyway…
5. What are the reasons not to do it?
6.
The answer should be "never too expensive to take to a gig", unless it was bought as a recording only instrument or a an 'investment'.
I'd agree with that. Money shouldn’t be the reason not to want to gig the instrument...
7.
...and he is always has cool basses.
Definitely! Someone on here bought a white ’91 5 string Thumb with red LEDs that was supposedly built for and played by the man himself…and if I remember correctly, he only paid about £900 for it Can’t remember who it was though…
8.
This far north? In Yorkshire?... (Damn southerners!).
Anything north of Watford is "The North"
9. Looks very neat. Good job
10. Prince is underrated as a bass player...
11. Good luck with this. Sounds like a whole lot a hassle for not a lot of point though...
12. Thanks for everyone’s input. COD is out the window – I’ve agreed to deliver the bass myself for a fee to cover petrol and my time. This suits me down to the ground
13. Crazy price. Those were over a grand brand new 10 years ago...
14. You can’t run the DHA off the 9V supply. I’d use what Silent Fly has suggested but I’d make sure your power supply can produce enough power – depending on what you’re powering you might get away with as little as 200mA but if you’re using any digital effects then aim for a power supply that can produce at least 1A.
15.
Thanks...... Seems like it should fit. I assume you must be happy with the quality of the neck to have a body custom built?
Yeah it seems like a great neck for the money, but obviously I’ve not been able to play it yet. It’s got the classically thin Jazz neck dimensions, and it looks like they’ve used a nice cut of wood for mine. I’ll need to spend a little bit of time rounding off the ends of some of the frets as a couple are a bit sharp where it’s been finished quickly in the factory. It’s great value for money though – I got mine through an eBay seller who shipped it over here from the US for a total cost of about £75. It’s pretty much exactly the same as what you’d pay allparts £150 for - http://www.allparts.uk.com/replacement-nec....html?p=product I bought my body before I bought the neck. I started this project as a kind of accident and then have just accumulated the parts when they’ve come up for cheap on the forum. All I’ve got left to get are some machine heads and a few bolts and screws that I’ll probably end up ordering from axesrus. The only thing stopping me making any progress at the moment is not being able to get the body routed…
16. Like this - http://www.ups.com/content/gb/en/shipping/..._added/cod.html I’ve been asked to use this to ship a bass to someone new to BassChat and I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of it? It seems legit and fairly safe but I was just a bit concerned about the part that says “The shipper assumes all risk related to the collection of the payment, including non-payment, insufficient funds, and forgery” – worst case scenario? This feels like a leap of faith as I’ve never used a service like this before and my buyer has only been a member of BC for 3 days. I just need someone to tell me that this is totally safe and nothing can go wrong…please…
17. Good job you used a credit card Cheers for the warning.
18. I just listened to The Decline in its entirety for the first time in about 6 years and I knew all the words. How funny. It just came on iTunes when I had on shuffle and I didn’t skip it when 9 times out of 10 I normally would. I’m glad I didn’t.
19.
Thanks, what body are you planning on fitting it to?
A custom made body that will be routed specifically for the Mighty Mite neck. This has been an ongoing project for about 4 or 5 months now but hasn’t made any progress at all in 2009 due to issues getting the thing routed - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=32620&hl= These measurements are of the squared heal (terminology?) of the neck which runs from approx the 15th to 20th fret: 64mm wide and 25mm deep @ 20th fret 60mm wide and 24mm deep @ 15th fret
20.
I have heard good things about Mighty Mite necks and would like to fit one to a SX 'Jazz' body. Has anyone out there done this? Will it fit straight in?
I can measure mine for you if you like? I've not fitted it yet...
