1. CK spotted this on eBay - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=43917 - If you can pick it up then I don't think you'll find anything better for the money. Looks like a great deal.
  2.
Who is next up?
yes please mate - I'll PM you my address

  4.
It's only profit if he manages to sell it at that price! Just out of interest what did you sell it for? No chance you have a 5-string as well??
A trade deal worth about £700/£750. That's what I got it for so I passed it on for the same within BC. I’m not really that bothered about it, I just think it’s a shame that it’s potentially leaving BassChat and other members won’t get the opportunity to have a go on it at that price. Sorry, I don't have a 5. I've not been brave enough to gamble on liking 5ers enough to warrant a 5 string SSII
I respect your viewpoint and I envy you lack of doubts but I believe we have different opinions about how to calculate time and production costs. What I say it’s not a judgment on musicman1 prices. As I said: <quote>[work and price] will be judged by the number of customers and their satisfaction.</quote> As far as I am concern, if we operate in a free marker, no price is, by definition, wrong or too high/low. With the greatest respect benwhiteuk I think you misread my post. I believe I said the exact opposite: <quote>I won’t comment your work or its price. I would like to give only a few comments about the presentation.</quote>
Fair doos. We’re looking at this from completely different view points. I never meant to start bashing the guy for his quality of work or asking price but I let myself be drawn into it. As a DIY project I think it’s great, but as a commercial product I think it’s severely lacking in a few areas; price point and general quality/finish being my main areas of concern. I couldn’t imagine any retailer putting this on the shelf next to other professional looper solutions with a £240 price tag on it. For the life of me I cannot see £240 within this device. I cannot see where £240 of my hard earned cash is going in relation to the concept/idea, the raw components, or the time it takes to produce this looper. £240 is about a 40 hour weeks wage for me. Even if it takes 10 hours to put together at £6 an hour and the parts cost £20 - £25; that only equates to about £80 or £85, so call it £100 for the sake of argument. If you’re a skilled workman/solderer you’ll probably get about £11 or £12 an hour but it’ll take less than half the time. £240 for this is completely pie in the sky stuff. After all, the guy’s asked for feedback on the price and I think I’ve done this and explained my reasoning.

A lot of what you’ve said is irrelevant. I don’t get paid to travel to and from work, postage and packaging is paid for by the customer, this isn’t a one off production, etc... If you’re talking about a one off bespoke piece of equipment then you’re totally right; it will take longer starting from scratch with something like this as you will have to design it which might take an hour. After you’ve sourced and collected your materials (which might take 20mins in Maplins) it shouldn’t take longer than 2 and a half hours to completely build the thing if you’ve got the right tools and have a basic understanding of how to use them. This isn’t a complicated project and it sounds to me that the “£40 a switch” figure was plucked out of the air with no real thought other than that it would be nice to earn £40 a switch. I didn’t really mean to get into a discussion like this about pricing and I think musicman1 has made a great DIY looper, but to ask for orders with a quoted price of £240 based on what he’s shown us is ridiculous. Judging from your first post you actually agree with me…
  7. I’ve had mine on here at the same price for 3 weeks and it’s not sold yet. Now that’s sods law I raise my hat to you sir for you are obviously a far more efficient salesman than I...
You've made some good points there IMO. We've all seen the schematic of a Wooly Mammoth, right?
With the Wooly Mammoth you're talking about a copyrighted design with a bucket load of intellectual property. What's been designed here isn't new, it's not original, it's not been well executed, it can be very easily replicated (legally) with a spare couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon, and it’s being sold at a ridiculous price when you compare its functionality and design to what else is available on the market at less than half the price…
  10. It should say – “Do not expose to a lack of common sense”. Problem solved
  11.
MB1. Think its got a graphite stabilising rod in the neck ,but everything else is prone to attack by Woody Woodpecker! .
ah cheers, i wondered if it would be something like that.
  12. Just wondering what part of the Shark Bass is graphite?
  13. I bought this from Toasted a while ago. He built it from a BYOC kit plus a few choice mods. It produces a really aggressive fuzz that’s full of thick harmonics and works with bass really well – lots of low end. More info and a sound clip/video on Toasted’s original thread - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=17840&hl: "It's a BYOC Fuzz with internal controls and a few choice mods. It's got the Jack Orman input "buffer" so it works great with active and passive basses. It's got the cool colour changing LED. It's also got two Beavis Audio mods. One to boost the volume, and one to boost the bass. It's also in a REALLY sexy Sw***box enclosure." Mint except for a tiny chip in the corner and Velcro on the bottom: [s]£70[/s] £60 posted. I'm happy to invite offers of trades for interesting stuff I could do with a good volume pedal as well. **SOLD**
  14.
One thing I don't understand is, what is the difference between mixing and mastering?
Mastering is what you do to the final 2ch stereo mix - http://www.bluelizardstudio.com/mixing-mastering.htm or http://musicians.about.com/od/musiciansfaq...ingormaster.htm - they can explain it better than me
  15. Think about what you’re gonna use it for and then weight it up against the features and your budget – what do you need it to do? Ultimately, if you need it for guitar and bass then it’s a one horse race. Consider how well built each unit is – I’ve heard bad things about the build quality of the X3. My XT Live is built like a tank and after 4 years regular use still looks great and works like the day I bought it. There’s no substitute for trying them out though.
  16. How much you looking for for the P?
  17.
As long as there are no regrets just mark it down to experience - besides, it's better to regret etc. I've been playing and gigging a lot more in fhe last year and as a consequence I've been wanting to try out a lot more gear - I say go with the GAS, it doesn't really hurt anyone - especially if you trade or sell as well as buy.
That’s the way I look at it really. I’ve got my number 1 that doesn’t go anywhere, so numbers 2 and 3 are usually tradable but as it happens number 3 is currently being built (and has been so for the last 5 months – I’ve been slack)... I’ve got a number 4 but it’s not worth mentioning because it’s retired ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I will consider almost anything of equal or less value (+cash) for trade on this – basically I don’t want to have to front any money for any potential trade deal.
  18. Buy a new one on eBay for £1200 - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Music-Man-Sterling-B...A1%7C240%3A1318 - or buy mine for half the price BTW, the price isn't dropping from £600. If it doesn't sell on here at that price within a week or 2 then I'll put it on fleabay with a £600 start price...

  23. Looks to have started quite high and is pushing the limit of what is achievble for some of those I think.
