I've not done the same thing myself, but i have had to "rescue" people a couple of times when they've done it - this has had the fortunate result of me being VERY aware of times and restrictions. On a similar note, i have heard of "someone" using car park regulations to their benefit. They've left my, sorry, THEIR car in a 24 hr car park for several days and then "lost" their ticket when they needed to leave the car park. This means they've only had to pay the fine of 24 hours parking rather than the much more substantial price of several days. In theory not actually doing anything wrong, just playing the system....
I’m surprised you got away with that one cos when a lot of big car parks that charge for keeping cars in overnight shut for the night someone will go round and make a note of the registration numbers of the cars that are left in there, then if someone just so happens to not have a ticket they’ll check their registration number against any cars that have been left over night and charge accordingly… I worked in a Matalan car park when I was a lot younger and some guy left his car there from Monday morning till Friday evening. Turns out he was a commuter and thought it would be safe to leave the car parked there all week (the Matalan in Pompey is right next to a train station) – we did him for £100 cash (£20 a day) even though he didn’t have a ticket Booo Yaaa!
i'd never reuse strings...they sound awful imho.
Really? You must be doing it wrong cos mine always come out sounding brand spanking new as if they’ve just come out of the packet. What strings do you use? I generally use Ernie Ball and I’m quite a heavy player but they usually stand up to at least 3 or 4 boils and occasionally I boil them 5 or 6 times before replacing them with a new set.
-
with the boiling method, i presume you just stick them in a pan of boiling water, but how long for?
5 mins with a tiny drop of fairly liquid (I can't emphasise how important it is to literally only use a single tiny drop, cos otherwise you'll have soapy water everywhere...)
-
same, £85 is a bit out of my pocket atm cheers man
I’m a bit pissed cos a few months ago you could get them for about £60 new. f*** the economic downturn
-
Next time I take my strings off for a clean I'm gonna try using meths in a sandwich box and see how the results differ to boiling.
-
Yeah I think a few people have these and there's been similar thread on it - do a search for "xciter" or "exciter" and a few helpful thread will probably come up I’m considering trying one of these, but I’ll only buy 2nd hand and for a good price

After a recent topic on how to clean strings, I thought it would be interesting to find out how many people clean and reuse their strings instead of buying new each time. Personally, I boil the strings on my main bass once every 2 weeks or so when I’m using it a lot and then replace them for new ones after I’ve boiled them 4 or 5 times. What do you guys do?
This is how I would do it. The first version uses a DPDT but it leaves the output of the previous pedal in the chain floating (which is not a problem for the majority of pedals). The second version uses a 3PDT switch. It puts a load on the last pedal of the chain so it is less likely to click/bump when the switch is pressed. I hope it helps.
That's great, thanks mate

Sounds like you need some hands on experience of the options available. I’d say the BDDI would be a good choice from your description of what you need from it because it sounds great (like an overdriven valve amp) and has a blend control which means you can dial in/out as much or as little of the overdriven/fuzz sound that you want. The blend means that you can dial in a very subtle overdriven sound that doesn’t dominate your overall sound and tone, and this sounds like what you’re after? Regardless of what I say, there’s no substitute for hands-on experience of a few different things so you can make a judgement of what’s best for you. Some people think the BDDI is a load of shyte, I think it sounds the mutts, but it may not be right for you.

That looks like a good idea – nice and simple. Good idea for smaller single cab solutions I think.
What are the best paintjobs that you have seen on a bass? We are talking stage basses here... basses that look stunning on stage. Post away! Things like Simm's Diet Coke Warwick come to mind - actually, Martin has some good examples and my mate Al who does the swirls - http://www.outofthisswirled.com
I've got a picture of that from the [s]2004[/s] 2003 Music Live...I'll dig it out (don't have a clue where it'll be) edit - just worked out that it must have been 2003...
i just realised
is it possible to stick a daisy chain lead onto a boss adapter?

would that work for powering lots of pedals (to be exact 3, Guyatone EQ, Digitech X-series Flanger, Boss RC-20XL)

(i just saw someone said they powered loads of pedals from just 2 adapters so...)
Yeah that would work but it depends on the power output of the adapter and the total power consumption of the pedals that it's going to be powering (measured in milliamps – mA). Obviously the output of the adapter has to be greater than the consumption of the pedals.

I'd like the sound of an Ampeg 8x10 in a box that weighs no more than 1Kg and measures 20x20x20mm In all seriousness, I think keeping the footprint size down is a good thing as well as being just wide enough to fit a rack case comfortably. Driver dimensions and resonant frequencies will surely dictate a limited flexibility in the size of the cabs though, so I guess it depends on the specifics of what you're using.
Don’t know Ben, I didn’t get one with mine. Being that it’s made by Bodygloove, it might be a wet bag for your mankini
Ah yes, I should’ve worked that one out by process of elimination
if you look at the schematics I posted recently, the 3pdt switch has X-wiring that grounds the unused input. This A/B wiring gives 'no-pop' switching and an unused B will also be hum-free
Thanks very much

is this wanted?

Mine turned up today – very happy with it . Feels really solid and is sooooooo padded on the inside. It weighs a bit more than I expected but I don’t mind this at all cos I know my basses will be snug-as-a-bug-in-a-rug inside this seemingly bombproof gig bag. Al and Paul – what am I meant to do with the wallet thing that comes in the front pocket? Tool bag? Cable bag? Makeup bag ? What do you guys use it for, or do you use it at all?
