1.
there are tu races: the wooten fellows and the jaco fellows, I'm definitively among the first group
I don’t think it’s as black and white as that (no race pun intended). I’m a huge admirer of both.
  2. The only album I really got into was his self titled Jaco Pastorius album. I thought that was great and has been the only album of his that I’ve ever listened to more than once, but I think this is mostly because of all the ideas that it introduced me to as a newbie bass player. As a 15 year old, the first time I listened to it was also the first time I realised that the bass can be played as a lead and solo instrument and I was completely blown away and inspired by this. It was also the first time I had properly heard a fretless bass and this was also new and inspirational. For me I feel that that album took my concept of the bass to a new level and really kick started my playing even though I don’t play anything like the sort of stuff that he played. I still listen to it every now and again, and reading this thread has made me just put it on
  3.
Take the schems for an A/B pedal and don't connect the B?
Thats a good idea - how would I ground the B so it doesn't buzz/hum?
  4. How can I make a mute switch for my pedalboard? This is basically as an alternative to a volume pedal, as all I do with the volume pedal is pretty much mute the signal. Effectively I want a stomp box with a single switch and LED (to indicate ON/OFF) and a jack input and output that when I click on the pedal it completely mutes the signal. I’d need it to be a silent click. Any ideas?
Digital delays can take up 2-300ma, multi effects can be 500+, I used to gig with 25 pedals including a zoom b2.1u and a digital delay. I could run them all off two Boss adaptors, but it was extremely noisy. When I got my Godlyke PSU it solved all that.
I’d always gig with a separate PSU for multi-effects pedals – I used to gig with my XT Live and 4 other pedals, but the XT Live used to be powered from its own dedicated PSU. My limit for pedals is about 11 or 12 cos I wouldn’t be able to physically fit any more on my board and I don’t want a bigger board cos it can get a bit ridiculous I didn’t know digital delays are so power hungry though Just checked the power consumption for my DigiTech Synth Wah – 300mA Crikey…
  6. It's much easier and simpler to just take all the strings off the bass, wrap them up in a circle like how they came out the packet, then put them in a pan of boiling water on the hob with a tiny drop of fairy liquid in for 5 minutes - this is what I do every couple of weeks and it works perfectly, the strings are like new.
I've got one of these and it's brilliant, from what i've heard it's essentially the same as the diago. It'll power 1.5amps with no hum, which is at least a dozen regular pedals, but the daisy chain lead is only boss type 9v, so they won't power eveything
That looks pretty good - add £2 for a mains lead though. Does it come with the daisy chain?
  8. Try an AKG D112 or Shure SM57 - I've used both live and in the studio (at the same time) and both do great but subtly different jobs. If you're feeling quite flush then get an AKG C414 - f***ing amazing for any application in any situation
Thanks. Does it produce any excess hum or anything? I imagine you would've said if it did but i just thought i'd ask
Absolutely none that I've experienced - "Creates no noise or mains hum" Best value for money effects daisy chain adapter IMO.

http://www.effectpowersupplies.com/9v-dc-r...y-chain-2-p.asp £17 and more power than you're ever likely to need (1.33A - about half as much as the Diago). That's what I use anyway, and it works so I guess it's good.
  11.
I'm contemplating having a musicman pickup installed in my bass. I emailed Jimmy Moon in Glasgow. The quote was just to route for the pickup and the channel from the pickup to the control cavity as I would be doing all the wiring myself. As he didn;t have a template for this he quoted me £150 so the £170 quoted earlier wasn;'t that far off the mark. I know I will be getting an excellent job done plus the bass is already painted so extra care is needed not to chip the paint round about the route. Jimmy makes guitars for a few famous names and sells them all over the world so his work is well known for being excellent.
Fair doos. I guess it would take a certain amount of time to measure up and work out exactly where the cuts are going to be made if you don’t have templates. I’m speaking to a close family friend (who is a very skilled chippy) about getting mine done. He’s got a workshop kitted out with tools that a lot of educational institutions would be jealous of. He doesn’t want paying for it but then he’s never worked on an instrument before, but neither have I and he’s going to make a much better job of it than I would have He’ll deffo be getting a very nice bottle of something… Not sure when it’s going to get done though, but I’ll update my build diary when it’s done.
  12.
gk1001-rb II 700w of deliciousness this-un: http://www.gallien.com/products_artist_hd_1001.html
Ah, unfortunately I can’t play left handed heads… Seriously though, I’ve heard those are great heads. I’ve been toying with the idea of trading the Shuttle but when it comes down to it I know I’d miss having 600W of power in a tiny 1.7Kg package. Just out of curiosity (and I don’t know why I’m doing this to myself), what tuner and rack have you got?
  13.
damn you guys, I want a shuttle now I'll trade my GK and tuner rack for one?
What GK is it?
  14. Glad to see this is doing the rounds. The queuing order/system seems to be working well but I'll update my original OP with an order of who I can tell wants it from the thread - I just think that this will make it a bit clearer. I'll try and keep it updated when more people show an interest, and if I add your name to the queue but for some reason you don't want it then let me know. Cheers
  15. If you can do Stilgoe for £1.69 (the change in my pocket) then I'll take him...
  16.
Every time I go for my Shuttle, I think to myself, "Bloody hell, it's so small I've lost it again..." Then I realise that I don't actually own one.
17.
I really can't see myself selling it, as if I ever had the need to get another amp, I'd still have this as a back-up/rehearsal amp...
That's exactly why I didn't sell mine when I was thinking about it. It's scary how small and light they are - it's witchcraft I tell thee. You could have one in your bass gig bag and not even notice it’s there.
  18. I can clear this debate up right now lads - it's me, and if anyone thinks otherwise then you're mental
  19. I’ll use them every now and again if I need some strings quickly and the shop I go to doesn’t have any Ernie Balls. They’re much better than Rotos, so much better that they’re incomparable, but then I don’t like Rotosound strings BTW – I use the ‘Medium’ gauge Elites – 100, 80, 60, 40
  20. A not too optimistic or hopeful type bump…
  21. Used to have one of these - great fun
  22. Nevada Music down my way had quite a few Fenders in last time I was in there (about 2 weeks ago).
  23.
Yep but at least we'll get the commission
I knew there'd be a catch
  24.
I've had one of those for about a year now - excellent gig bag, you won't be disappointed. Thats a very good price too. Suppose if I wanted to be picky, I say the handle feels like it should be slightly further forward, to balance better when carrying it. Or maybe I just carry basses that suffer from neck dive!
Sold
I'm seriously thinking of buying another one and ditching my Hiscox hardcase Na - that's silly innit, but having trawled around all the NW shops looking for a bag I saw nothing as good as this for twice the price.
...and sold! If it's crap then I'm gonna be 'avin' words fellas
  25.
Just a quick heads up if anyone's looking for an excellent bag for not a lot of money - had mine for two weeks now and I love it. Looky here
Funny you should say that, I nearly bought one of those last night. EDIT: Do you have any experience of them?
