Is it possible to get a separate VU meter and put it after the compressor in the signal chain? S.P.
hmm maybe but I don’t think that’s what I’m after. I’d like to be able to see how much the signal is being compressed by – i.e. the meter will duck down showing the reduction in level rather than showing the overall output level like I think you’ve suggested (don’t know if that makes any sense).
I haven't any experience with either of those pedals but have read more than a few less than encourage threads relating to both. You may want to check this tb thread out, it might help you find what you're looking for:- www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229874&highlight=compressor Hmmm, I can't seem to get the above link to work. Go to talkbass and search the effects forum with the word compressor. Look for a post by bongomania called "compressor review megathread".
Thanks mate I’ll have a look.

I’m looking for a good pedal compressor with a VU meter display so I can actually see the amount of compression that’s going on – I’m a bit of a simpleton and for some reason I need to be able to see it’s actually working and compressing my signal for me to believe that it's there (as well as the fact that the amount of flashing LEDs you have on you pedalboard directly correlates with how cool you are ). I’m terrible with this because I’ve learnt to use some great RTAS compressors with some fantastic graphic interfaces and now I’ve lost the ability to judge compression without the help of a display  I know of 2 that have this kind of display – the Aphex Punch Factory and the Ashdown Dual Band Compressor Pedal, and both have received quite dodgy reviews (the Ashdown in particular). What else out there has a good VU meter display?
I have a mint EB MM sterling 4 in blue and a guy wants to swap so I could do with an idea on how the money will work out, I was guessing at £700 for the MM and £450 for the $$
[s]The big question is…Corvette or Streamer? The Streamer would be worth a tad more – about £50 maybe. [/s] Corvette - doh, I just skim read it Do you definitely want the $$? I might have something Streamer shaped if you were interested, but it’s not a $$. I've been after a Sterling for a while...

On the subject of the PD7 – does anyone know how to fix the problem with the dodgy switches on the earlier ones?
Ah, interesting Q, I had a big thread on Talkbass and Guitar Nutz going about blend pots last year, trying to find a true blend pot for a passive bass ctrl, and I found all the ones sold in the various guitar parts outlets were not really true blend pots due to differences in the taper of the two pot tracks. This had the effect of reducing the volume significantly at the centre detent position due to bot tracks not being balanced taper. in the end I went back to a standard jazz-bass type with 2 separate vol pots - the change in overall volume throughout the blend pot sweep was a real pain. you ended up having to tweak the volume every time you reset the blend. I understand with active systems you can get a more accurate track taper so the blend function becomes good enough to be of practical use. I think these tend to be 50k pots. So it would be pretty easy to make a simple a/b blender, but to make a really good and useful one may be quite tricky.
Cheers for the info. So only an active blender would be worth investigating – I might have to look into that…

I’d say good. I’ve sold a few things on there recently that have sold for more than I expected. It can be hit and miss though...
never really known of one in green to be honest but I'd say (at a guess) Maybe £300-350? I'm sure other people will know a bit better
Closer to £200 to £250 I'd think. You could get them new for about £380, not to mention that the colour may limit interest. We are talking about the non-rockbass version of the Std aren't we? If it's the rockbass then you'd be looking at about £150 to £200 at a push I think, but I'm no expert.
I don't know about the Solo version, but I've got the full version of GTR3 and it's brilliant. I've got NI GuitarRig as well, and have found GTR3 to be much, much better for bass and guitar.
+1 but I only use it for guitar simply becuase the Ampeg bass plugin is sooooooo good.

The cheapest bass I own – Warwick Streamer Std. I’ll never sell it

how easy is it to make a simple A/B blender?
You'll only see the recommended price listed now. I expect discounted prices will follow soon
Indeed, but given the strength of the £ vs pretty much anything at the moment, I’m not holding my breath for significant discounts on the RRP in the UK. Can always hope though...
...was wondering where i could get L.E.Ds put in to the neck of my bass and how much it would cost.
Sims - http://www.simscustom.com/ - and they'll cost a lot. £300 - £400 depending on what you want?
Bonners are listing them. I feel a trip to Eastbourne coming on

I may join you.... the prices look good - Bonners link
If you guys pull the trigger then I’m calling shotgun for a first refusal if either of you turn out to not get on with it in a couple of months time Or I might just try and sell some sh*t to raise funds... £920 is too much for me at the moment though. I could sell my Shuttle 6.0, my Pod XT Live, my little 15W practise amp, can't think of a lot else... That would raise about £600 so I'd still be short by quite a lot. Bollocks.
is there any real reason why the sales forums cannot be seperated into many subforums, like say the Basschat Affiliates forum is?? It would obviously greatly reduce the need to bump, i mean it could even get as detailed as a 4 string bass subforum and a 5 string bass subforum, maybe a little ott but as i say is there any reason why not?? I cant imagine it would be any more difficult to moderate, just alot more organised.
I'd go for that.
Actually, after I looked at it for a while, I realised that it is a streamer shape, but with parts of the horns cut away. If it wasn't for that it would just be a streamer shape. Zach
Really? So it's got the arse of Streamer? I guess that could be said for Corvettes, Thumbs, Infinitys... I think it's a nice bass though but I wouldn't pay anything near what they're asking for for it.
The programmable version has got little feet on it like the old one in your photos, so the velcro thing isn't an issue with the battery compartment -- i wonder why they didn't do that on the new version you've got there?
I took the feet off the new one before I took the pictures, no idea why I did this though
I don't think it's expensive when you compare it with the competition and the features you get..... good price I think.
Yeah I agree with the comments on the price being reasonable/fair considering what you get, but it’s just a bit out of my price range. I was hoping it would be closer to the £500 quid mark…

Hey Chris, just got the CD and slapped it on and cranked it – sounds great man The mixes sound so much better than the compressed myspace music player makes them sound. You’ve got a f***ing killer bass tone on these tracks! It’s great stuff man, and if you’re ever gigging in my neck of the woods I’ll definitely come and see you guys play. Keep up the good work…
Glad they've got a proper battery compartment on the new one
Yeah it’s a good thing if I was ever going to run it with a battery, but I’m not, so basically I have to have battery cap/compartment lid (whatever you want to call it) off all the time after I apply some Velcro because the battery lid has a 1 or 2mm lip that would stop the Velcro attaching flat to a carpeted surface. Seeing as how many players apply Velcro to the bottom of their pedals for them to be used with a carpeted pedalboard, I think the battery compartment could have been designed better.

What’s the difference between the new and old versions of the BDDI? Today I’ve had the chance to A/B them and they’re definitely not the same – if both are set with the same control values they sound completely different. However, you can definitely make them sound very similar, so similar in fact that you probably won’t be able to tell which is which. I’m just interested if anyone knows why they’re different or how they’re different and why they modified the design? For reference, here are some pictures: Old on the left– New on the right (for both pictures).
