Have just seen some of the RRP's
About 4200 euros for the Zender? I make that about £3800 at today's rates. f*** that. I think it looks nice, but you can get some pretty special instruments for that sort of money. Who's gonna buy it for that sort of money? Crazy prices if you look at what you can get for less than half that at the moment.

I had a go at knocking something together – mixed results. I think I learnt quite a lot from the process but I’m not sure about how it’s turned out. It’s quite a simple design but my cackhandedness made it a bit complicated. I just used scrap wood that was knocking around so it’s not like I’ve actually forked out for anything. If it turns out alright after I try and resurrect it then I’ll post a build diary showing what I did, but I can’t promise anything…
Guys, I'm happy to go to whatever lengths people think is fair and square (within reason of course) which is why I contacted Ped to start off with. I wanted to get the draw done elsewhere so I retain impartiality. He was the one that suggested he'd stay out of it and perform the draw, which I'm all for. I don't think any of us here would question Ped's integrity. Equally, I have met enough people on here that hopefully would vouch for me being honourable, fair and square, etc. I've travelled the length of the country and back in a day at my own cost to swap & sell equipment, etc., so although I'll obviously gain from this, I'm certainly not in it for ripping anyone off at all. Just ask any one from bassbunny, yorks5stringer, lee650, rasta, machines and possibly a few others. Clearly I want to sell my lovely Warwick, as it's a shame to have a bass this nice that's not being used any longer, and as I said, I don't want to sell it for less than I honestly think it's worth. And I think if we can cover the legality of it, I think it'd be a great way for people to start moving some of the high enders that just aren't moving as nobody's got deep pockets any longer. Cheers, Pete.
Sorry man, I didn’t mean to call anyone’s integrity into question and I don’t mean any disrespect. I think this is a great idea but when 100 fairly anonymous people are spending £10 on a raffle ticket I think things should be tight with no questionable circumstances or results. I’m not disputing the credibility of the idea or the possibility that this will go ahead, I’m just asking the questions that I feel need to be asked in order for all bases (excuse the pun ) to be covered to allow this to go ahead without any problems. I’m all for this to go ahead mate, don’t get me wrong
Im in for this. However i fear the "drawing" of the ticket via name in a hat isn't the best way to go about things, how about the names of everybody who's paid is written or printed on the back of 2 decks of playing cards, everycard could be shuffled properly laid face down on a table and then the winner picked at absolute random, it would be easy to film and put on say you tube to keep things above board and legit. I'm not saying that people are going to ever rig this but your going to have to cover all corners, when 99 people who don't win start shouting a fix! As i say i'm in, but when a grand of peoples money is up in the air, keep it professional.
Yeah I do agree with this – I think more thought would have to go into the “drawing” process to make sure that the people who entered are satisfied that it has been a fair process and even if they don’t agree it’s been a fair process there’s some form of evidence that’ll prove beyond reasonable doubt that the draw was genuine and completely fair. I’d have thought that the best way to organise the drawing of something like this would be at one of the larger bashes maybe, but then I guess that the time scale may play quite a large factor in this not happening. People will obviously be handing over money before the draw has been made, but it’s not like they’re going to be protected by a contract but much rather just good faith that i) the draw will happen, ii) the draw will be fair, iii) the bass will get sent out, etc... This is a great idea but it seems to me that, regardless of legalities, there’s a lot to sort out and confirm. However, I'd be in for a tenner if it does happen
So while a lottery might be considered illegal, would there be any legal issues if say, 100 people decided to club together to buy a bass, and the person who got to keep it at their house was randomly drawn from a hat.
I think you've just defined what a lottery is?

You can get a lot for that sort of money if you keep your eyes open and check the for sale section on the forum. I can’t recommend anything as tone is so subjective, but it depends on what you need it for and what you need it to do, and then it’s just down to personal taste. Do you go to many local gigs? – Check out what the bass players are using for their backline and if you hear anything you like then try to find out what it is. You could go to a music shop and play around with a few things, but it’s hard to gage how amps are going to sound at gig level when you’re sitting in a shop and playing them at relatively low levels, and personally I’d try and avoid buying new if I could. Hope that helps for the time being.

The most pointless thing I've ever bought on ebay - But it's farkin' funny innit... -

Interesting concept – I’ve seen these sort of raffles in airports for Aston Martins etc; 1500 people buy a ticket for £100, the car costs £110k, someone wins the car for £100, the company that put the raffle on takes £40k profit. I'd probably be interested in taking a punt for £10. A lot better odds than the lottery, and a more interesting gamble than betting on the football… Legally, does this count as gambling?

I think they’re great – I’d almost go as far to say that an Ampeg 8x10 powered by an SVT-VR would be my ultimate bass tone, but I’d never invest the cash cos I’d be paying the ultimate price of a bad back for the rest of my life; so f***ing heavy and inconvenient. Even the 4x10 HLF cab with the SVT-CL was too heavy/inconvenient for me; if I can’t comfortably manage to move my rig myself then it’s too heavy. Incredible sound though - when I can pay some roadies I'll get myself back in the Ampeg all valve club...
hahah okay.....well do you have an example? i shouldve written more, but this time of night im lazy.
Haha I was being purposely awkward Have a look at a lot of the Peavy stuff – you can order most of their 2x10 and 1x15 cabs in either 4 or 8 ohms. Also, I think Mark Bass do their Traveller series of cabs in 4 ohms. The vast majority of the Scheroder cabs can be either 4 or 8 ohms – look at the 1210 for example. A lot of 1x15 and 2x10 cabs are 8 ohms because the manufactures envisage them being used as an extension cab rather than a single cab solution…I think...
Do these exsist? 1x15 or 2x10 specifically.
Yes, definitely.
I wouldn't have even bothered cancelling the September gig, wouldn't bother turning up on the date...
I'd agree, but the problem with doing that is you'd be unlikely to ever get a gig in Salisbury again; it's a small world and it only takes 1 phone call from a pissed off promoter/venue to spread the word about time wasters and bands that don’t show up. It’s a shame that it’s generally the promoters and venues that have the power, not the band…

Too much GAS, not enough money/hours in the day. Still GASing for a Sterling. Now Gasing for a Hiscox case (how f***ing sad), parts for a DIY pedalboard, and lots of other random stuff. Same story, different year...

After looking at the range for about 15 minutes, I’ve got over my initial disappointment that the Zender bass isn’t a Streamer and I actually quite like it; kind of looks a bit like an Infinity. I’d go as far to say that I’d be very interested in having a closer look at one if there wasn’t a voice at the back of my head telling me that it’s likely to retail around the £1800 - £2k mark and therefore pricing me out Other than that - Regardless of limited editions, I’ll never buy a Corvette…

I’d buy a Basschat mug with a cheesy bass innuendo on it though :brow:
It has to be Ear Protection .. ok.. so it's not specifically 'bass' kit.. but how many people spend hundreds maybe thousands of pounds on bass gear yet *still* insist on spending as little as possible on looking after their ears? (Or not spending anything at all on them!)
+1 After a bass, then an amp, ear protection should be the next thing any gigging bass player buys. At only 23, I wish I understood the damage I was doing to my ears 6 or 7 years ago...

I've been caught out by ebay a few times recently - f***ing c**ts - they withdrew something I was selling because I stated that it was advertised locally and apparently that's not allowed, and then they withdrew some boots my girlfriend was selling because she said in the title "Like UGG Boots" and apparently that was considered as spamming or some other bullshit – both times I received no notification that I had breached any technical rules other than having my listing removed without refund of fees. I f***ing hate ebay but it's just such a bloody effective way of selling stuff. I've said so many times that I'll never use it again, but when push comes to shove, I know I'll be able to sell stuff on ebay. It's one of those things I love to hate.
You could surely buy and sell a Jazz and drop a lot less than you're planning to lose on these pedals. I don't understand.
0% interest credit card > Buy Jazz Bass > Do Tour > Get Paid for Tour > Sell Jazz Bass > Pay Off 0% Credit Card > Spend Money Earned on Women and Drugs SORTED! :brow: -
What's the most over-rated bass, or bass related product???
Dubs replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
Vintage basses are overrated.
