I’m after an Ampeg SVT-3Pro in exchange for my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 with the Genz Benz gig bag. I’ve been considering this for a while and have decided that I’d like a bit of the Ampeg growl back in my life after going from an all valve Ampeg rig to my super lightweight Genz Benz/Epifani rig about 3 or 4 months ago. I've played an SVT-3Pro in the past and thought it sounded great. It’s in great condition; only left the house a handful of times and it’s only ever been gigged twice – both times it wasn’t pushed anywhere near its limit. Only marks are very slight cosmetic marks on the black paint that can easily be covered with a marker pen if one were so inclined to do so The power output is an incredible 600W @ 4ohms in a tiny 3.75lb package, and with the valve pre this is a very versatile little amp. I thought I’d see if anyone wants to shed some rig weight whilst I want to put some back on I’m only really interested in the newer MkII SVT-3Pro model – not the old black/red/blue MkI one. I’m not desperate for a change as the Shuttle 6.0 is great, I’m just caught up in the old BassChat GAS again and I’m trying to nail down “My Sound”. I’m happy to wait a while and see if anything pops up. Thanks

4 strings sound better than 5 string basses. Discuss.

If you can't do it with 4 you're not trying hard enough. -
i dealed with them at their depot. i was asked the contents of the package, and i replied bass in a hardcase, he then asked did i want insurance, and i said yeah, its worth £700, so he said itd be insured for £1000 for £xx (cant remember). Whether i read t&c or not, i dont think that is acceptable.
yeah I guess that's a different story. That is pretty sh*t man. Did you go after a refund? -
i think iv already said this, but since there doesnt appear to be any negative for apc, they are gettin a -1 from me, sold me £1000 insurance for my bass, and i later found out they didnt insure instruments!
You’ve got to read all the T&C’s mate – a lot of couriers don’t insure musical instruments over about £150 but they’ll happily take your cash for it. If you’re giving APC a -1 for this, then realistically a -1 should go to all couriers who don’t insure musical instruments cos they’ll all be happy to take the cash and not provide the insurance. -
I can’t believe Andy Rourke hasn’t had a bigger mention. Amazing bass player. Some of the lines he came up with for The Smiths were fantastic; so melodic, intricate, technical, and musically sound all at the same time. For those who don’t listen to The Smiths, borrow one of their compilation albums off someone or get it on a cheeky download (who gives a f*** cos all the royalties go to Morrissey anyway) and have a listen. The most recent one is great – The Sound Of The Smiths. It's hard to judge what's the "best" attribute for a bass player, but Andy Rourke would get my vote above 99% of other bass players mentioned in this thread.
Aah, the low B on this bass is lurvely - has a nice growl to it! There's nowt wrong with a nice 5-er!
yeah I’m sure the low B is great, I’m just a simpleton who loves a 4 string
The brass nut was factory fitted. It has string height adjustment via screws in each slot.
It’s not a ’99 then? Sorry I just misunderstood the year of the bass; I scan read the ad and saw that it was bought in 1999 and presumed it was a 1999 bass. By '99 Warwick we're using the plastic JAN-II. I think the brass JAN-I stopped being used in early to mid '97? I'm probably wrong on this though. Anyway's, the brass nut is also a good thing. This is a lot of bass for the money -
Not really after anything specific atm, but what have you got?
Potentially a mint condition Akai UniBass if you were interested? I say “potentially” because I’m really after a programmable BDDI to base a pedalboard around, but if you were interested in the UniBass then I’d happily settle for this at the moment. Let me know anyway
hmm, cheers for your advice all, reckon i could get them down to £850 on it? Worth a try i suppose! I'm really trying not to have to sell my SUB bass!
If you don’t ask you don’t get, but I think you’ll have to really chat them up with all your charm for them to reduce it by almost 20% for cash. Do you know the staff in there? With regards to the SUB, can you ever see yourself ever playing it in favour of the Bongo? I know sentimental value is priceless (I’d never even consider selling one of my basses because of its sentimental value to me) so if it means that much to you then don’t get rid of it, but realistically if the Bongo is as good as you say it is then is there any point in keeping the SUB? It doesn’t sound like the Bongo is going anywhere in the short term, so take some time and mull it over. If the Bongo were to be sold tomorrow morning, how much would you regret not getting it? How many other Bongos have you played?
...i think this could be THE one and rolls all my favourite features of my basses into one.
If it's really that good then surely this is a no brainer; go for it mate If I were you, I wouldn't just buy a random Bongo - I'd buy the one that you've been playing. Ordering from the US and getting one shipped may be slightly cheaper than buying new here but you may end up with something that doesn't feel anywhere near as good as the one in Reverb. Every large manufacture ends up with a couple of duds slipping past quality control and not every instrument produced on mass will be the same. Not all Stingray's feel the same, not every Jazz bass feels the same, etc... If you walked into Reverb with £900 cash they may do you a deal if its been there a while. Something to think about anyway…
Good thing we don't all have the same taste, or there'd be just one bass on the market, only in standard, budget and all-exotic-woods-gold-hardware-n-LEDs versions
