Just checked out your myspace - Warhorse is a great tune If I were closer I'd come and audition. Good luck with the search.

Looks good. There's also this that's rack mountable with a similar power output but at a slightly lower cost - http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servl...rack=DIMENSION3
Many moons ago I put 2 mono channels onto a stereo jack & because it was 2 separate lines, it caused a short & burnt out the amp. I don't want a similar thing happening to the mac or the murf & I'm probably being over cautious. I'm using either Garageband or Audacity to record. G
If you’ve got 2 separate mono jacks going into a stereo jack then they are still 2 separate channels/lines – a stereo signal is just 2 separate channels playing back simultaneously to give a natural impression or representation of sound/music being heard from a specific direction or different directions (it’s like if you shut one eye you have no depth perception, but when both are open it becomes much clearer where things are), but each channel is separate and not a conjoined entity. The 2 mono jacks should be taking a side of the stereo jack each (left and right), and then the software you’re using will record the stereo input as an interleaved stereo track (probably; some DAW software like Pro Tools doesn’t deal with interleaved tracks at all but it will record the left and right sides separately and join then within the software). Basically, I can’t see how what you’re proposing to do can damage the input on your mac. I may be wrong though and someone with a bit more experience will be able to elaborate. Hope what I’ve said makes sense; I tend to ramble

I don’t know how feasible it would be but is there any chance of implementing a “Search” function for searching through your PMs? I’ve got 11 pages and sometimes it take ages to search for something specific that I’m looking for. What would really help is being able to search for PMs sent by a specific user name, then a separate search to be able to search for key words in the subject line, and then another search to search for key words within the contents of PMs. Again, I don’t know of feasible this would be but I know that I’d find it massively helpful.
Does anyone know if it is safe to take a lead with two mono 1/4 jacks on one end to a stereo 2.4mm jack from the MuRF into my mac to get a stereo recording? I know with some devices this can do damage to one or both (made this mistake in the past). G
What kind of damage did it cause? Yeah that will work – I take it the ¼ inch jacks are coming from the murf and the mini jack is going into the laptop? I can’t see any reason why that wouldn’t work cos the input on the Mac should be a stereo mini jack input. What software are you using to record?

I’m alright. Been playing for about 8ish years - I’ve learnt bass and music from quite an academic angle so I think that helped me to progress quickly. It still annoys the sh*t out of me though when I can’t do or play something I want to. I’m better than some, a lot worse than others – it’s hard to judge. It’s not about being modest, it’s just about being honest; you can always improve and there’s always going to be someone ‘better’ than you. If you do it for the enjoyment then it’s never gonna be an issue how good you are IMO.
Are you going bass>effects>amp or are the effects in the amps effects loop? You can get different results depending upon how you have your pedals in your set-up; if in the effects loop you may have a series/parallel set or a pad switch to attenuate, you might want to play with all of the permutations!
I didn’t even think about this – At the moment I’m going Bass>Effects>Amp, but I’ll trying some things out with the effect loop (I’ve never bothered with it in the past). Thanks for reminding me that potentially alternative solutions to this problem exist

Thanks for the replies guys; very informative. As WH said, I’ll just have to “suck it and see” and spend some time trying out a few different things and see how the 9V and 18V affects my signal chain. The 18V OB2 in my SSI has an amazingly hot output compared to any other bass (9V and 18V) that I’ve ever used/owned, so I guess I was just taking my experience of this and making an assumption that an 18V pre amp is likely to have a hotter output than a 9V. The SSI has an absolutely amazing clean sound (obviously completely objective) when bypassing any effects, but tends to sound a bit rough through any effects, and as I said before, this is down to the really hot output. I’ve turned the volume down and this helps with the problem but then it gives a slightly different quality to the clean sound of the bass which isn’t as good as when the volume pots are at “10”. I don’t want to make the compromise and run it at 9V cos it sounds so good at the moment, so I’ll probably just end up using it for clean stuff (which isn’t really an issue at all). Anyway, I’m at least a month away from installing the pre amp into the Jazz bass (no routing has actually been done yet) so I’ve got some time for a bit more research and pondering, but ultimately I’ll just test it in a 9V and 18V configuration and see what’s what.
More batts also provides more opportunity to show off by sticking them on your tongue to see if they're working OK !!
- I’ve heard you can die by doing that? – something about the shock might stop your heart? Urban myth maybe?
My 81 Precision has an EMG active pickup, but no actual eq/preamp. I have made a conversion clip to run it off 18v rather than the standard 9v. Unfortunately theres no room for two standard 9v batteries, so my clip uses the 1.5v cells from A23 12v batteries. There are eight 1.5v button cells if you open up an A23. Twelve of the cells fit perfectly onto an AAA holder.
Very ingenious Are there any scientific reasons why 18V is ‘better’ than 9V? EDIT: I should point out that I've used a couple of 18V pre amps in the past so I'm not a newb to them, just I don't get why they might be 'better' then 9V? My experience has been that they’re too hot to use with the majority of the effects that I use but they sound great when I’m going clean straight into my amp.

What are the advantages of using an 18V pre amp over a 9V…or wiring your pre amp for 18V instead of 9V? I’ve got a pre amp for the Jazz bass that I’m building and it can be run at either 9V or 18V. I’m probably going to wire it as a 9V cos my experience of 18V pre amps tends to be that the output is so high that it saturates the input of my effects leading to a really sh*t digital distortion kind of sound on a lot of my pedals, but I’ll experiment with a 9V and 18V configuration before I decide what I’ll stick with. Any suggestions or tips as to why 18V would be advantageous over 9V? Ta very much

If you're gonna get a new MusicMan but you can only afford a Sub, I'd reccomend getting a used Stingray instead cos you'll just end up wanting one in 3 months. It's like a Porsche Boxster; you only get one if you can't afford a 911. Personally I'd go for a Sterling if I was going for another MusicMan.

I registered just to see what all the fuss was about, but I’ve never posted anything. I hate the design of the site and the adverts really piss me off. I’ve not spent enough time there to really get a feel for it though.

that looks amazing mate - you've done a properly good job on that
They look amazing. Actually there's one up on eBay USA at the moment with some really nice pictures. Personally it would worry me having that expensive a bass.
just checked out those pics...It looks amazing, shame it's a 5 stringer

I bought my 4 string version of this for £340 new. They're great basses though and generally hugely underrated IMO.
