2. that neck looks lovely - is it an allparts neck?
 3.
Jens says 9 to 14
4. interesting - don't know if I like it though. Do we know what the neck profile is likely to be? - Similar to a Sterling? Just a guess cos it looks nice and narrow.
 5.
I suspect that the ideal number of screws relates directly to the area of the neck pocket. Have you thought about fitting metal inserts in the neck and using set screws instead of wood screws? I did this to my Warmoth build and it's far more secure in the long term.
Ah, I’ve not thought about this at all – I’ve not actually taken delivery of the neck yet so I’ll assess this when it arrives. Thanks for letting me know there’s another option
 6.
I'd agree that it depends upon the size/shape of the neck heel/pocket. If it's a fairly standard Fender sized thing then 4 ought to do. I suspect that 6 screws in a tight spacing might actually weaken the neck pocket, depending on the type of wood we're talking about here.
The body has a mahogany core and the neck is solid maple - It's a typical Jazz bass neck so judging from the advice above I think I might go for a more 'standard' 4 bolt solution – but I don’t want a neck plate so I’ll be using some screw ferrules to give a nice smooth finish :brow: When I have all my parts (or at least most of them – I’m actually nearly there) I’ll start a build thread and maybe ask for a bit more relevant advice when it comes to making my final decisions…
 7. Any advantage for having 6 neck screws over 4? The answers here may change my build plans… EDIT: As in 4 screws - Or 6 screws -
 8.
That would be very cool! At least then it's staying close to home incase I win the lottery cause I would so buy this one back!!
if it's that good then find a way to keep it man, you'll only regret it otherwise.
 9. sh*t man, hope this turns up, I'll keep my eyes out down here anyway
 10. My SSI, but maybe my 'Jizz Bass' once I've built it...
 11.
Oh also how about a thanks meter? a few forums have these (kinda like kudos) so if someone helps you, you click their thanks box and the amount of thanks they get appears in there avatar box. Don't know how easy it would be to do.
Yeah I’ve seen these on a few forums, but I don’t like the idea of it. Just seems a way for people to almost compete against each other and compare their ‘score’ against others and to feel some kind of superiority over other members… I can’t see any merits for having something like that, but then maybe I’m just a very cynical 23 year old who needs to lighten up?
 12. only when I'm listening back to myself after recording sessions cos it always sounds sh*tt*r in the first person for some reason.
 13.
Apprently it was because he wasn't being credited in the song writing that much and that he wasn't being fairly compensated financially. Simon Merrick might know the real answer.
yeah I heard something very similar to this - he left around the end of '97 or early '98 i think
 14. hey man, go to "My Controls" and then click "Edit Signature", and then type some stuff... EDIT: For being wrong
 15.
I had all the routing and drilling done on a guitar body for £25. I chatted to the guy for ages and have had work done quite a few times, so dunno if I got a good rate, previously I got charged the same ofor a single pickup route from the same guy.
Cheers for the info mate - don't suppose that this guy is based on the south coast or in or around Hampshire by any chance? Might be worth my while having a chat with him if he is...
 16.
My bass
I can't stop looking...
 17.
Or worse still, a 5 string NT that went for less... £522 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=001
f*** man, I would have had that, and I don't play 5 stringers!!!
 18. That is very sexy (probably the sexiest Squire I’ve seen in a long time), and you’ve not got long to wait till you're allowed to play it I'd sneak a couple of cheeky minutes here and there when the missus wasn't looking though
 19.
If you visit the stewmac website it shows you how to do it: if he has done a course he should have all the right tools/techniques, also this may help too. http://www.accesswave.ca/~derekn/routertut...akingtemps).htm Maybe practise on some scrap first?
Thanks for that, I'll have a proper chat with him and find out what else he's routed...
 20.
No I think worst case it won't sell or if it has no reserve then it may well achieve £399... I personally think 'best case' it will go for £600! Just an opinion.
Yeah, unfortunately I think you’re right on the money, again. Comes with a nice case though…
 21.
When I did mine it was no longer than 1 hour actually routing those areas but then you end up paying for the expertise, jigs/templates etc and final finishing which takes a lot longer. Would you cut/make the rear cavity plate yourself? It's not rocket science and if your friend is on a course they should know what to do..... Disclaimer: I could be totally wrong on this!
Yeah I’d be tempted to just make the cavity plate myself – it’s all part of the ‘build’ experience and something that I could actually do myself (and it would probably cut down on costs a bit). I’d be relatively happy to take it to a pro and pay for their time and expertise, but this is only if I’d be able to afford it. I need to speak to my mate about it properly because I’ve only spoke with him in passing or online and I’ve not actually seen any of his work, so he may be great and I’m being a bit of a prick by not having confidence in him, but I just know how he was 5 years ago in college when it came to work; minimal effort = a pass, and occasionally the old Homer Simpson motto – “If something’s too hard to do, then don’t bother”. I just need to work out if I’d actually be happy to pay the premium for a pro to do it before I take it further with him, cos (a) I don’t want financially cripple myself by getting a pro to do it if I can’t actually afford it - (b) I don’t want to waste my mates time, and © I don’t want my mate to ruin the body by believing his skills are on par with John Shuker’s when really they’re not…
 22.
And S*******ton. And that place near Arsenal - what's it called. Oh yes, Tottenham.
I'm shocked the language filter didn't pick this one up in your original post...
 23. I've said it before, and I'll probably say it again, but that is the nicest Flea Bass I've ever seen.
 24. I have a lovely un routed Jazz body (Celinder clone with a mahogany core and mildly quilted redwood top and rear, sycamore veneer under the redwood top – it’s nice ) and I’ve just ordered a neck so when this comes I can take the measurements for it to be routed, but how much should I expect to pay for a pro job? I need it to be routed for a standard Jazz pickup configuration with a rear control cavity, and obviously I need the neck pocket to be routed. I’ve been offered to have it routed out for free by an old friend who is in the 2nd year of a guitar building course, but for my piece of mind I’d be tempted to pay for a pro job if I can afford it, if not then my mate gets to drill into it…
